Amazon combined the separate DVD and Blu ray reviews to fix the low rating of the star wars original trilogy blu rays it would seem since the rating was like 2 stars and declining.

Amazon combines reviews all the time.  That had nothing to do with it.

Though I wish they wouldn't.

IT'S MY TRILOGY, AND I WANT IT NOW!

"Yeah, well, George says a lot of things..." a young 1997 xhonzi on RASSM

"They're my movies." -George Lucas. 19 people won oscars for their work on Star Wars (1977) and George Lucas wasn't one of them.

It doesn't matter, people are STILL going to buy it, I bet actually, numbers wise, this Set sells very, very well, despite all the bitchin and cryin from anyone in this thread or anywhere for that matter.

And the same could be said for all on the other side as well, so what's the point?

C'mon dark_jedi, you know better than that!  Heck, you're doing restoration work yourself.

You know the complaint is not the presence of the SE, but rather the suppression of the OOT.

I know, but NOTHING at all being said here or anywhere is going to change that, I have accepted that, why can't you? so why sit and bicker aimlessly at something WE are not going to change? this whole subject is actually very simple, if you are interested in it, like me, you are going to buy it, if you are not, well then you probably are not going to buy it, so why the page after page of, I will call it bickering, some get offended if I say whining and bitching and crying LOL, I mean my God, have you read the crap at Blu-ray.com?

OH, and before you start thinking I am angry LOL, I am not, far from it actually, as you said, I have my own projects to fall back on and share with my Kids and Friends, so I have no reason to sit here and be bitter over something I can't control.

No, it's quite literally, the only way anything at all gets done in home video. We'd still have the sides sliced off Apocalypse Now otherwise. As for the 2 sides of the argument, you have: one group who really, really wants to buy 3 old movies. And the other saying you should accept the higher power, don't commit the sin of Ronto-rejection and hear the good news of 97/04/11. Not the same.

If films, uniquely American films, are part of our society's cultural heritage then he is not only changing or rewriting history but doing a great disservice.

If he in the past talked about the altering of films and how evil it was why is he doing the same thing.  I see no difference in him being the creator, because he is also the studio media mogul and not just the artist.  No difference at all between him or the studios he rightly demonized and criticized.

I've never understood why Amazon combines reviews. It is totally asinine. I can't count how many times I've gone to Amazon to read some reviews on a particular "special edition" dvd just to see them all mixed in with the old dvd version so you can't possibly read about the actual item you're going to buy. Absolutely ridiculous.

Baronlando is right - if everybody always takes the attitude of  "oh well, there's nothing we can do about it", then nothing will ever be improved upon. If nobody ever speaks out and complains when they are unhappy, companies will take advantage and try to get away with more and more (or less and less).

Katie Lucas (daughter) tweeted today:

"I helped pick out the box art for the BluRay set!"

"The haters will always hate, and in the end, they will buy the BluRay."

It's attitudes like this that are the problem. "Well, it doesn't matter how crappy our set will be because the haters will hate but then they'll buy it anyways".

Well, I am not a hater, but I can say I'm pretty confident that I will not be buying this set anyways, not until it's in the Wal-mart $5.00 bin.

And their big video reveal was laughably bad. Adywan's latest trailer for E:Revisited blows it away. Hell, I've seen many home-made fan trailers on youtube that blows this away.

I don't think that future generations should have to know who dark_jedi is to get decent versions of the original movies. The general public deserves better, whether they think they want it right now or not.

Fair enough, but let's all see a few years from now if this thread, or any thread, changes that.

If George Lucas is dead set against releasing the UOT, than so be it, NO amount of complaining, Internet petitions, polls, etc. is going to change that, all I am saying is I have come to accept this.

So we will see what the future holds.

Furthermore D_J, while your GOUT-sourced preservations are impressive, they're limited by the source material. No avisynth script will ever be able to achieve results from a laserdisc transfer on par with a professional restoration sourced from the original materials.

I understand where you're coming from, and the cynic in me is inclined to agree. But on the other hand, it appears that purist whiners like us succeeded in generating sufficient pressure that the GOUT was released, and that's at least a first step. If nothing else, it reveals that Lucas' position isn't impregnable. We went from "no original version ever" to "only on a laserdisc-sourced bonus DVD." It's not much, but it's something.

We're not running out of internet, so it's fine. It would be nice of they just did this stuff automatically but alas, it's not that way. Like for example, you can't get a dvd of the theatrical cut of PAT GARRETT AND BILLY THE KID. Why? Because ain't nobody's asking.

There will never be a product with the Star Wars logo on it that sells poorly, ever. The fanbase is so big that no matter what is released, no matter how bad or how good, 50 million people will buy it. It's not like people have a choice anyway--you can either buy the SE, or not have Star Wars in high def. It's the reason why the majority of the people here own the 2004 DVDs--imagine that! It's absurd. But that's the chokehold Lucasfilm has. Special Edition sales numbers tell us a lot about the amount of fans the franchise has, but they don't tell us much about how much approval the Special Edition has, because there is no point of comparison.

A lot of regular folks are not even aware of the changes.

Most people don't even know there are 3 versions of the trilogy.

My sister was watching the DVD's and did not even know they were updated, beyond Hayden Christensen sticking out like a sore thumb.

A part of it is George stopped advertising them as Special Editions, they are the only versions of the film he will admit exist.

As I stated already, lets see where all these comments in this thread gets us, lets see if George Lucas caves in to all the demands quoted here and everywhere else on the net, lets see.

We wouldn't have the GOUT, at least.

If people want to just take it from Lucasfilm, fine.

I love the films too much to just stand by and say "you win." I'll die before that happens. The films will be restored in high def and when that happens, I hope everyone thanks those that fought for it.

Ok, let's see then. But in order for that to happen, the comments here and elsewhere actually have to be made. Which you're protesting against, right? So...what are you advocating, exactly...?

How many audio mixes for star wars now if you count the special editions up to the blu ray.

3 original film mixes, 85 mix, 1993 mix, 1997 mix, 2004 mix, and finally 2011.

That makes eight freakin flavors of the soundtrack.

I find it strange that so many people are surprised that the GOUT isn't getting re-released on BluRay...

The most I'm hoping for is the colors to be fixed, to aid Adywan and friends B) But of course, we're in the dark about that until September or thereabouts =/

What are the differences between the '85 & '93 mix? I don't suspect they are much different.
