Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!) — Page 98

It would have to be some sort of significant double dip excuse event.

If they were to do it (and throw in some sort of restoration or enhancement beyond the GOUT transfers) the time to do it would be around the release date of ANH:SE3D (which should have been a character name in THX 1138 SE).

I can just imagine the advert voice, "And NOW watch STAR WARS as it was meant to be seen in 3D and buy the Blu-rays again for granddad with the versions he can almost remember".

"Technology prevented me from making the movies in 3D, so now you can watch my original vision of the movie as it was meant to be seen. I also didn't mean to have Han shoot first, Yoda look so ugly in Phantom, Luke scream as he was falling in Cloud City, Boba Fett not sound like a Kiwi clone, Vader to suddenly appear on his Super Star Destroyer, the Sarlacc to look like a spiky woman's privates..."

I thought that six year old in the Super Bowl ad was a better Vader than Hayden. ;)

I think we need to work that in to some fan edits.

Their a lot of reason's the 04 dvd's where rushed some say it was intentionally rushed and some believe because GL was working on episode 3 at the time and their was no time for a proper restoration of the SE. I know the issue has be beaten to death many times but until we see what the blu-ray box set has to offer and if  those issues will be fixed we won't know until we have the set in our hands.

It's going to be September 20th 2004 all over again.

If a new soundmix is being made, then why reuse the 04 scans? Yes they were cleaned up by Lowry Digital, but have so many other issues that a new start would be extremely beneficial.

If they simply would scan and release the 97s as-is there would be no problems with transfers! And isn't the digital footage already at 2K?

This assumes George Lucas is aware of any issues.

The reason there is a new sound mix is very probably because Blu Rays have 6 channel surround, or whatever it is, and not the 5.1 of 2004. So, Ben Burtt probably simply asked if he could do a new mix for the format. They probably have all the original elements from the 2004 mix still on-line there, so it's a pretty simple feat, very different from doing a brand new scan and DI from scratch. It's probably not an attempt to "fix" anything from the 2004 mix, although I wouldn't be surprised if they did smooth out some of the issues from the last mix simply because they are getting another crack at it.

If they simply would scan and release the 97s as-is there would be no problems with transfers! And isn't the digital footage already at 2K?

The footage was at 2K, but I'm not sure what if any of it was kept in the computer (remember, this was 1996 after all). There was no such thing as a DI, so the scans were printed back onto film and cut into the physical negative, maybe this is all there is to work with now.

I really hope the footage from the trailers isnt the final product.  I mean Luke and Vader's lightsabers still bleed through each other in front of the Emperor!

I won't be able to believe it if they don't fix that glaring error.

They aren't errors, they're creative decisions.

*cough*

Yeah, and somehow, if they did consider that shot an error, I think they would have fixed it for the trailer, seeing as it's an incredibly easy fix. Or perhaps not use it at all.

Fixing the colors should automatically fix that shot. It would be ridiculous to fix just that one shot and not the entire movie(s).

What if LFL actually has the balls to release the OOT? I doubt it, but they sure are hyping this release all over again- probably to show us some crappy BD artwork or new changes to the OT.
