Even if the 1977 cut is beautifully restored with the 70mm six-track mix included for the first time ever?  Or would you not buy it unless it was released on its own, and not alongside Empire or Jedi?

If the originals were properly restored and included in the set (and I had a blu-ray player and HD screen)? Sure, I'd buy it then (and only then), though I'd probably wait until it was on sale. :)

The principle for me is not giving Lucas anymore money for sub-standard products in place of the genuine article (the OOT in pristine form). If he does the right thing, he deserves a "vote" from my wallet again.

I feel like we should give that link its own new thread. The more votes the better.

My comment was directed at Anchorhead, since he only acknowledges the 1977 Star Wars in much the same way that I only acknowledge the 1977-1983 trilogy.  He doesn't care about ESB or ROTJ at all, so I was wondering if he'd buy a trilogy set just to get the original '77 cut of Star Wars in the best possible quality.

Buying a box set for just one movie in it seems like a waste of money.

Let's say I'm a big highlander fan, but the only way I could buy Highlander on Blu-Ray was to buy it as part of a box set with the other highlander Films.

Here is how I solve that dilemma... wait until it is available as a stand alone movie.

It WILL happen, either when they release an official stand alone set OR on the used market.

That's how people got their hands on the "bonus disc" from 2004. They didn't have to track down and buy the 2004 set to get it, they just waited until it was available by itself. Problem solved.

So yeah, if it were me, I'd just wait. It's not like the movie will be less good if you don't buy it at Wal-Mart on the day it "comes out." You won't be the first one to see it, after all.

  • Anchorhead- Feel free to vote "Not until Lucasfilm restores the original, unaltered versions of the first trilogy." for me since I mistakenly didn't read closely enough and voted "I won't buy any of them." for you.

I'd definitely buy it if it were the 1977 theatrical version in a proper release and sold as a separate entity. I just don't think that will ever happen.  That's not how Lucas works.  It's him first - fans second.  Always.

Otherwise I'd just have to wait until some TFNer broke up a set and sold Star Wars77 on ebay because it was too slow and no one was related to each other.

If someone has a bad day, I would recommend to see this topic on bluray.com:

    http://forum.blu-ray.com/blu-ray-movies-north-america/141915-star-wars-complete-saga-original-prequel-trilogy-september-27-2011-a-452.html

Good laugh, after a bad day :).

Kenkraly calling me and people from here trolls, because I'm "bashing" GL and telling me that the colors and sound mix for Episode IV will be fixed.

What a shame he didn't say "colars". Some other things are also funny. Example:

Those trolls at originaltrilogy.com are mean and disrespectfull.

I think Ken generally comes off as so obviously a clown that posting there would not only be superfluous but waste valuable space.

I like Rick [McCallum] he's a very intelligent guy about film.

I've come to the conclusion that kenkraly either:

    a) has the greatest sense of humour of any individual I've ever met,

    b) is a complete clown, or

    c) is really Rick McCallum.

Wait, in one single sentence you assert that a) stuff will be fixed and then follow that up by saying that b) you don't know anything about the blu-ray releases.
