Any news about sound mixes in BD release? 5.1 or 7.1?

I dunno, but at least we can rest secure in the knowledge that it will reflect the crystal clarity and exceptional quality that only DTS can provide!

I swear that joke will NEVER get old for me. :-)

Another message from Bill Hunt:

I would tend to agree with you. But I’ll DEFINITELY look into learning everything I can. I would expect details to be scarce until later this year, however.

Bill
I still don't believe that anything will be different by then. Especially not a new transfer...

You're just name dropping.  Bill never answers my emails.  Or my letters.  And he won't stop pressing charges either.

He's right, details will be scarce. Ugh. LFL: "This thing is SO fucking special we can't allow precious knowledge of it to be dispersed early. Knowledge is our treasure." (fart noise)

I agree, I don't believe this trailer is any indication at all of what the set will look like, but people like to complain anyways instead of just waiting.

ok then, answer me this: If the trailer is no indication of what the blu-ray set will look like and that they have just used stock footage from the old releases, as some people have said, then why have they used the new transfer for TPM? Wouldn't that be the old footage too?

You know Ady I have a TON of respect for you and ALL your work, but I am not going to argue over something that is NOT going to be in our hands for another 8-9 months, I am just agreeing with the other guy that the trailer might have been just a slapped together piece of SH*T! and that there ARE people on this forum that like to complain about things just to complain, hell it is already going on in this thread, can I not comment on that? I find it very funny that this happens, because as I said, WE meaning ALL of us here, have not seen the set yet and won't for a long time yet, I myself, am hoping, that all these premature complaints are wrong, but only time will tell, so do you have anything else you want to direct at me?

I don't understand, why so many people here seem disappointed by this. I'm not surprised, so I can't be disappointed, it's no more and no less than I expected. It's actually kind of funny that they use the most obviously shitty parts of the 2004 transfer to promote the new set. I'm surprised we didn't get to see the green lightsabre in SW :-)

And who is to say they aren't showing these shi**y parts for a reason?

I am just trying to stay optimistic is all, no harm in that is there?

Yeah? Like what reason? Maybe as a bold middle finger to those who give a f*ck about quality. Seriously, the trailer made me laugh...

Advertisement fail, I would say. I guess they need Don Draper to do a proper ad.

LOL we both must be mis reading each other, I am going to say this now for all, I just don't think we can base the new Blu's on this shitty trailer, I want to stay some what optimistic on this release, because after these, I WILL NOT BUY anymore, I just find it funny how bitter some people are here right now over something we WILL not see for a while yet, and I am calm LOL, like I said, I find this funny.

It's true that we can't know for sure yet.  But I'd say the odds favor being pessimistic.

I know someone already did this with shots from the recent ILM documentary, but it would be interesting to see a TPM comparison between the dvd/hbo/cinemax/spiketv version and the new trailer.

someone did a comparison in one of the threads (don't remember which) between TPM shots from the new ILM doc and one of the TPM transfers that's out there. It confirmed that the shots in the doc are from a new transfer.

EDIT: ah, you found it

My only complaint, as I knew the rest was going to suck already, was that the bonus features will only be available in the big set.  Even if I did decide to bite the bullet and buy something, the damn prequels have to be included to get the stuff I really want.  It's sad when you have to think about the bonus features being the highlight of the set, rather than the films themselves.

I can't believe anyone is shocked by this either.  The shocking thing is that Lucas will let you buy the OT without the PT.

really, this is not shocking at all, with most sets the extras are on the bigger release, this is nothing new, it is an added bonus to spending more for getting more.

The only thing I can think of, which might explain why Episode 1 looked different, would be that for trailer the saturation was higher. I mean, even some of the OT stuff looks a little more saturated than usual (but still less than the PT). The sabers in Episode 1 were quite subdued on the DVD transfer, but if all they did was increase the saturation for the trailer while still using all old transfer footage, it's possible it has made it seem like there is a new transfer for Episode 1 in the trailer. I did notice some pink in Darth Maul saber fight still, so who knows...

(Yes, I do know there is a new transfer Episode 1 confirmed by the ILM documentary, but it's possible it wasn't used here still.)

I guess the only way we will know is when they start showing clips or specialised trailers for each film for the blu-ray a la 1997 SE release.

Not that I have blind faith that the OT will be fixed, but the theory about the BD trailer having new TPM shots but old OT shots could theoretically make sense...from a certain point of view.

Since they have to do new transfers of all six films, logically they started with the Prequels since those are the newer films and will require less effort to transfer, especially with AOTC and ROTS already having been filmed digitally in the first place.  Maybe they're done transferring the PT but are still working on transferring the OT, so all they had available for the trailer were the original DVD versions.

Plus, putting aside image quality, the editing of the entire piece looks like it was done more for advertising purposes rather than an actual demonstration of the BD transfer.  Watch it from a strict marketing perspective - the shots they chose are the ones you'd expect to see in a promotional piece - action sequences and iconic imagery.

Again, not saying I expect the OT to look better but until more info comes out, there's still a grey area (blue area?  :-)p  ) in the final treatment of the OT.

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

It's entirely possible, that at this point, not only does GL not care whether us annoying OOT fans buy the set, but he actually would prefer we not buy it.  Because he knows that if we do, he'll get more grief and more negative publicity.  As long as only fanboys buy it, there will only be fanboy-style feedback/reviews.

Maybe they've had the new transfer ready for years.  We did see the new Yoda as early as 2005.

yes they have. this was documented in an interview years ago that they had the HD transfer ready for a Blu-Ray release

But specifically for Menace, right?  Because if they'd been working on it for a while (by the time the Yoda clip came out the film was already six years old), then maybe since then they've been working on Clones and Sith, and haven't reached the OT yet.
