After the EW ESB scene was released, I posted a color corrected version on YouTube:

<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvUyNoa22Jo"></a><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvUyNoa22Jo" target="_blank" title="www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvUyNoa22Jo"></a><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvUyNoa22Jo" target="_blank" title="www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvUyNoa22Jo">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvUyNoa22Jo</a>

It's been like two days but this thing already has 39,051 views... Someone even ripped my color corrected version off and it's on whatculture.com...

It's actually an interesting extension although one probably not good for the movie was a whole...

So sorry. I have to say, though, that 55 seconds is better than ANYTHING in the prequels.

I now feel very happy about the BD set........

No, I'm not gonna buy it......but with all the Star Wars mania going on, I was able to pick up 'The Making of ESB' reduced from £28 - £15 in HMV Belfast

We will never see another Star Wars type phenomena. People move on to the next thing too quickly now thanks to our culture being oversaturated with media, and the audience being very tech savvy (there has been no real movie "magic" post-Jurassic Park). Special Effects used to be wizardry, now you just take a course.

and now modify the above to account for Harry Potter.

I've always been slightly envious of Potter fans - an actual planned story (weak as I may consider it to be, I'm obviously in the minority, the presentation of the genre does not appeal to me) and closure and unlikely to get milked and pissed off with endless revisionism. I'm not sure it's a phenomenon any more than Starbuck's coffee is a phenonemon. There's just so many phenomenally marketed franchises to choose from today that something needs to go to the next level to differentiate itself from everything else. I still reckon that elusive catalyst will be found in an unexpected place or craft. I'm still impressed "normal" people still care about Back To The Future, but maybe that's more to do with rolling into 2015 and nostalgia.

I don't know. If this set doesn't correct the lightsaber issues (as it apparently does not), Hunt may really lay into them and forgo said "Ranch Invite". He'd been told and reported in that visit to the Ranch that the issues had been resolved. He seemed really peeved in yesterday's post re: the 3D story (which turned out to be old) and I have a feeling "the end" of his being nice to Lucasfilm is nigh.

Here's that post:

Also today, it turns out that all 6 Star Wars films might not get the full 3D conversion after all. Why? Well, it seems demand MIGHT not be what Lucasfilm was expecting. Producer Rick McCallum now says they're starting with Phantom Menace and will do one per year in chronological order "if they work." Good luck with that, after pissing off fans with more pointless tweaking of the films. Hey Rick - you want to know what MIGHT get people back in theatres for these? 3D-convert the ORIGINAL theatrical versions, and then promise to release them on Blu-ray with the original versions in both 2D and 3D in PROPER, remastered quality. Yeah, I won't hold my breath. Anyway, more at TG Daily.

(waaaaay off topic) Judging from this trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePelcaQOEaE

Kuky se vraci would be a phenomenon i'd gladly pay attention to.  www.kukysevraci.cz

Totally off topic, lol, but looks great. Reminds me of the movies of Jan Švankmajer.  Given that the maker of this is also czech, I suppose that's where the influence is from.

I see what you're saying!  The $90 Lucas wants you to spend on the Star Wars Complete Saga Box Set is better spent on a few tickets for you and your friends to see that movie. ;)

Or something David Bowie-related.

Or something Secret of NIMH-related.

Or something else not Star Wars-Related.

The franchises I get nerdy about are so obscure that not even most nerds know about them.

Made an alternate version of Vader's "NO". I'd obviously prefer it not be there at all, but this is a lot more bearable IMO.

I like it! :) You know, I could live with the first "no..." Vader now says but the second... Sounds like some crying baby...

He's either completely ignorant to the internet meme and mockery of "NOOOOOO" (hard to believe), or yes, he's being a total dick.

I picture it something like this:

GEORGE: Why are all these guys on the internet doing the NOOOO scene?

RICK: (Nervously)  Um.... I don't know.  Do you want to sue them?

GEORGE: Are they making fun of the scene?

RICK:  Uh... no!  No!  It's just... it's just that the scene was just so powerful and well directed that it's become a pop culture phenomenon.

GEORGE: Oh, like the "I am your father scene."

RICK: Yes, just like that one.  Better than that one, even.

GEORGE: Let's put it in Return of the Jedi too, then.

RICK: Oh... OK.  Great idea, sir!

Let me just say one thing: Lucas wears a "Han shot first" t-shirt.

You think he's ignorant to the "NOooo" hate? In the next version he'll probably have Alderaan shoot first too, just to fuck with people.

I know he's probably aware.  I'd just like to believe "there is still good in him".

I don't know why Hitler/Nazi analogies are even necessary when Star Wars ones are even more appropriate (and less offensive.)

I thought I had seen some of the images inside the box set before...

They're from a book I have called Star Wars Art: Visions, which is full of weird stuff, such as:

There is some really cool stuff in here that I could scan though, for custom covers and such.

Good point. Hard to believe he doesn't know, er, "NOOOoooOOooOo!"

That Darth Maul as Baby Heracles painting looks like it came straight off the wall of a tacky autocrat's presidential palace.

That C-3PO and R2-D2 picture really doesn't seem to fit in the box set. I suppose it's creative, but... I suppose we should be grateful that the Maul Baby photo is not in the Blu-Ray. It would give children nightmares..

Wait.  But how does that "Fur Balls" image match George's vision?  They don't have pupils?  Why didn't George paint over their eyes?  Isn't this going to be so confusing for people who are introduced through the Blu-rays?  How could he let this happen?!

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

Hey AluminumFalcon-

Which broadcast is the Vader/Luke scene from Empire taken from?

Brr. I ended up rebuying Empire from yesasia since it seems my copy's been lost or lent out never to be seen again. There are lots of new copies of the P&S version on ebay for a few $$$ cheaper...but I refuse to buy P&S and wanted all the covers to match up. Kinda sad, really; I'm never gonna watch the things now that we've got Harmy, d_j, ady's avchds &c. except maybe for the commentary on the 2006 disc. I suppose if I keep it shrink-wrapped it'll be worth a lot in a few years, unless George relents

I'm not quite sure what Danny_boy is saying, but it is quite absurd to say that the 1982 VHS is a faithful guage of the quality of seeing the film in theatre, in terms of resolution.

I'll translate...he hasn't got a single clue and is making uneducated guesses and incorrect assumptions upon assumptions.  Let him try and sell that notion over at HTF and the likes of RAH will kindly ask him to be quiet while adults are speaking.

And I don't mean just Star Wars specifically...but any movie older than the last 20 years. Many of their initial prints looked more brilliant back then, than a lot of prints of movies I see these days.

LOL!---Regarding RAH's restoration of the Godfather---------Francis Ford Coppola admitted he could not even remember how the film  looked in it's original theatrical release.

Yet an anonymouse internet poster claims he can remember how "brilliant " Star Wars looked(over 25 years ago!).

I saw Star wars twice theatrically(1981 and 1983) and I cannot remember one  way or the other in 2011 wether the prints I saw were vibrant or dull or dirty or clean.

I'll stick with that 1982 VHS for reference for the time being.

I saw Star Wars in 1977. Many, many, many times. For 3 years it was just Star Wars...period. I saw it in good theaters, cheap theaters and drive-ins with those clunky metal speakers you hang on your window. The screen and sound quality never subtracted from the excitement. I can watch the original cut right now, over 30 years later, on some beat up VHS tape and enjoy it. It's the story that makes this movie. Nothing? else.
