True, but we're getting a louder voice these days.  If he won't listen to us, he may listen to a two star rating on Amazon or heat from more than just a fellow director or two.

It would be nice if Steven Spielberg laid into him a time or two.  I just picked up the Close Encounters Blu-Ray yesterday.  Fantastic set.  Looks unbelievable for a 34-year old film.  Plus, you get to choose between 3 versions.  Then there's Lucas's other contemporaries and mentors: Ridley Scott and Francis Ford Coppola.  Then there's the Alien set.  I know this has been covered already, but I still shake my head at the thought that other filmmakers know how to satisfy fans, and then there's George...

^ Judging a whole forum from a few quotes, posts, threads will happen, but that's their loss.  Forums are for people speaking their views, even if they are atrocious, idiotic, repetitive or helpful.

No, it's this forum's loss. Anchorhead is right: OT.com is a lot more visible now, and when you're more visible, perception is everything. No one is saying one's views shouldn't be expressed; they are saying, however, that there are ways to do so that don't make OT.com look like a haven for cranks, and its members like a bunch of retarded jackasses.

As long as everyone agrees with me on everything we'll be fine. ;-)

Why hasn't SuperShadow written anything about the Blu-Rays?  End of an era.

I agree...

Wait... what??

I know there's a lot of talk about DNR and other such technobabble, but I perused the Blu-ray transfer of TPM today, and it looks pretty darn awesome to my eyes. The clarity is great, the colors really pop, and the new Yoda fits right in. It went from the worst looking of the series to possibly the best. The colors in the Darth Maul battle are breathtaking.

It IS all about the fans. I don't understand how George doesn't get this. Maybe he does but doesn't care, everyone buys everything anyway. I don't understand that either. This hurts my head.

I think George thinks he is right, and doesn't really see enough of the fanbase reation to realize he isn't. There doesn't seem to be anything particularly malicious in it. We're a pretty small group of fans that are unhappy about the non-release of the OOT, the majority of people don't care about it. Remember, he sees these as upgrades, and most people do as well.

Now that there's been a notable uproar about the blu-rays, maybe he'll start to get it.

Wow, I thought they might finish post on a few of the deleted scenes, but it sounds like they're all in rough shape so far. Very diasppointing.

The first guys seem to have officially bought the complete saga set. The MF forum is discussing the content here:

Sounds like the DVD deleted scenes are not included. I understand not wanting to make it a complete double dip, but there's a fine line between double-dip and having to keep multiple copies of movies if you want all of the bonus features.

And the Yoda/Qui-Gon scene in Episode 3 is in animatic form with no voices. How is that a bonus feature?

To be frank, I'll believe it only when I can see it for myself (those posts really aren't that informative, to be honest).

The set does appear to be shipping from several online stores. For anyone who's interested, here's what DVDWorldUSA.com has to say:

http://www.dvdworldusa.com/shopexd.asp?id=78543

Confirmed multi-region apparently, but I'm interested in what they have to say about the UK set.

Full UnCut U.S. Version in Deluxe Gatefold 'Book' Packaging. Please do not compare this with the inferior U.K. release. You have been warned!!!

Do they think the UK version is cut? According to the BBFC, AOTC is uncut in the UK with the previous cuts waived.

http://www.bbfc.co.uk/GVF172768/

Is the packaging different in the UK? Do we not get gatefold book packaging or are they just trying to sell something for £75 when you could pick up a UK set for less than £50?

I like that one!

And I guess I need to start toning down some of my rants if this site is getting attention. Who thought I'd ever go respectable?

What's your address, Puggo? I'm going to send you the bill for the new keyboard I'll have to buy, to replace the one ruined by my spit-take after reading this.

I can't take credit for the line... it's someone named James Costello.  Find Cody Clarke's review on the first page of saga reviews, and look at the first response to his review.  Genius!

A good day: having two friends tell me they're not buying this set after initially pre-ordering on Amazon.

I don't know a single friend buying it.

Granted, but you brought it forth to the forum, therefore you must take responsibility for subsequent spit-takes and other consequences of hilarity. :)

Update on the high-def digest poll...

  • I'm fed up. I won't buy any of them until Lucasfilm restores the original, unaltered versions of the first trilogy. (51%, 554 Votes)
  • Yes, I'm still in for the full six-film set no matter what. (28%, 302 Votes)
  • I'll buy them, but I won't be happy about it. (16%, 172 Votes)
  • Only the original trilogy box set (Episodes IV - VI) for me. (3%, 37 Votes)
  • I'm waiting for the 3D conversions. (1%, 10 Votes)
  • Only the prequel trilogy box set (Episodes I - III) for me. (1%, 7 Votes)

I don't remeber the final results last time but things seemed to have flipped quite a bit.

It's this group that gets me. I guess Ady, Jambe, etc who are using it for editing or review purposes would buy it but not be happy, but it reads more like people who are forced to buy the movies.

And 7 people are wanting the Prequel set only? Say what you will about the prequels, but no bonus features at all makes any trilogy-only purchase kind of silly to me. I guess there really are people out there who only like the prequels.

If a few fanedits/reconstructions I like are made using the set, I'll probably fall into this camp.

Count me in that group as well...
-_-

However, if those reports turn out to be true and either the new PT deleted scenes are of poor standards or the deleted scenes from the previous DVD release aren't included in this newer BD set, then I'll be cancelling my pre-order with two words for Uncle George.... with the last word being "Off".

True, true. I'll probably pick it up used at some point, but I'm in no hurry. I have decided I'm in a hurry to pick up used copies of the GOUT, in case they do disappear.

Well, that's not necessarily the case, there may be peolpe who like the prequels and love the OT but hate the SEs, especially in their current colour screwed up form - these people may buy the PT set only.
