I'm starting to think - with all due respect to this website - that this shouldn't be the place to air our misgivings about the impending Blu-ray release. We're arguing in a vacuum on this site - we need to discuss this on EVERY blu-ray review site that's out there, as THAT is where the powers that be look to gauge public reaction. As far as this site is concerned they'll just consider it the whinging of a few hardcore fans that are impossible to please and would congregate here anyways. If the discussions are spread the length and breadth of blu-ray internet land I think we have a far better chance of possibly instigating some change.

At this point, Lucas knows that there is a segment of the fanbase that wants the OOT, because the bottom line is he wouldnt even address this issue back when the announced the 2004 DVD's.  Remember back in 2003, he pronounced those version don't exist anymore.  Then he relented and put them out on DVD in 2006, albeit a crappy version, but the bottom line is that it contradicts his 'they dont exist' statement.

Now Lucas says that it is too expensive to remaster, so they still do exist, but it is just too expensive now.  We've done our job, and I don't think there is much we can do, other then waiting for Mr. Lucas to give in.

The only wakeup call to Lucasfilm is if the BluRay set did terrible sales, but there are enough Star Wars fans out there who 'put up' with the Special Editions to buy it.

Now I will say that because Blurays still arent in the average home the same way DVD's were, sales may not be as great as expected.  NOBODY I know has a Bluray player, even I don't have one, as I am so sick of re-buying my movies over and over.  Plus many people are waiting for digital downloads too, so it should be interesting to see the final sales.

Bullshit. He was saying that in 2006 to justify releasing the OOT according to LD standards.

Wow, that was random! :-P

If you decide to do this, be prepared for a backlash from diehard George Lucas fans, and by that I mean those who love all the 2004 Special Edition changes, believe that Lucas really did have a vision in mind all along and basically can do no wrong.

You mean, the people who think that adding Hayden Christiansen to ROTJ "nicely ties all 6 films together" ? *gag*

But this is also one of those "game changing" releases that inspires certain people to finally give in and buy a player just so they can watch their favorite movie in the latest format.  The only other ones I can think of that will draw the same attention for their BD releases are the first three Indiana Jones films and E.T.

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

Those are the ones! :-)  As it has been a while since I wandered on to a Lucas fan forum, I was actually surprised to see how determined people are to defend his' "vision" and his decision to release only the 2004 Special Editions on Blu-ray.

I'd rather have the entire cast of characters replaced with Ewoks. "Beechawawa!"

Fixed.

Assuming, of course, he will, which he won't. This set will sell plenty of BR players. It's over guys. It's done. Star Wars is dead. We've lost.

Yes, I also feel this is the case. The originals are in limbo as long as Lucas lives. I still believe the OOT negatives exist at Lucasfilm somewhere in their archives.

Meantime, the Original Trilogy bootlegs will continue to be passed around and enjoyed in sub-HD quality.

Actually, statistics show that Blu-ray's have been adopted faster than DVD's.

Yes, it does seem Blu-ray is doing really well at the moment. The infrastructure isn't quite there for digital downloads just yet, so hard copy media be around for a good few years more.

I don't know why everyone is upset that only the special edition versions of star wars episodes 4 , 5 and 6 are coming out on blu-ray in fall of 2011. 1st back in 2006 rick mccallum the producer of the speical editions was interviewed  on reelz channel and someone asked when the star wars films come out on blu-ray which versions of the original films will be out on the BD and he said Lucas wants the special editions. So when he said only the special editions where going to be on the Blu-Rays of episodes 4 ,5 and 6 I was not surprized. But some people want the original verisons of the 1st star wars films and yes they should be perserved but the SE's are Lucas's perfered versions of the classic trilogy. That bothers some fans but it does'nt bother me as much. I will be buying the Star Wars Films on blu-ray in fall of next year 2011.

Well, we want the original versions; that is why people are upset.  Few people are surprised, but that does not mean they are not upset/disappointed.  I am pleased that you are happy with the versions to be released though.  :-)

Just out of curiosity, how old were you when Return of the Jedi was originally released (1983)? I think that age has a lot to do with the understanding of the "Lucas hate".

I was born in July of 1983. I just don't get why some people don't like george lucas he is a good filmmaker. But some fans don't like him and I don't get it. Just because he made changed to the original trilogy in the special editions.

I do not hate him.  I just wish he would release the original trilogy.

I know few people that act like that on this forum.  Most people are fine with people liking the special editions: they just prefer and want the original trilogy in good quality.

I want the original trilogy in good quality as well as anybuddy but I don't complan about it like some people do on this forum.
