Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!) — Page 204

I am personally happy to hear about all of the changes to this edition.  The more he changes the more it will irritate the newer generation into realizing that film revisionism is never a good thing unless the original film is still available.  These new editions are nothing more than a novelty and that's all they ever will be even 100 years from now.  A foray into the capabilities of early digital moviemaking.  Nothing more, nothing less.  The originals will survive in some capacity and will go down in the annals of history as the cultural landmarks that they were/are.

Luke threw twice…maybe.

or this:

Before you head to the comments to ask, yes, Greedo still shoots first in this version (although you may still see an original version of that scene in the set – hint, hint).

These guys make the same allusion but with an added details of it being in the deleted scenes:

http://www.smh.com.au/entertainment/tv-and-radio/oi-star-wars-20110825-1jb1v.html

Soon after we cut to a shot of Han, sitting in a booth, snogging a hitherto unseen date. Any leads on where the girl cut from the biggest movie of all time is now, will be greatfully received.

Later, the alien thug Greedo wanders up to tear strips off Han Solo (Harrison Ford) for not paying his debts … and instead of the bleeps and gurgles fans are used to, once again he sounds like he should be pushing a barrow full of eel pies. (Oh, and for purists: Star Wars' creator has let the scene run long enough to finally clear up a long-debated point: yep, Han shot first.)

Or Han's the only one to shoot... ...wait to see if it's the Lost Cut b/w or color. maybe this site will answer that question.

They've really gotta do something about that backdrop, can't we hold this get together on Kamino or Mustafar?

These are the only films that I probably go back and listen to and know that and making sure that all the right elements are there, because if something is just slightly off, my childhood DNA screams “wrong!”.

How does your childhood DNA feel about giant cartoon animals from the '90s?

What should we call this version? SE 3.0? Want to bet the 1997 credits will still be there?

Where were you in '77?

Has anyone noticed that they seem to have changed Nien Numb's voice slightly in the death star footage? Or is it just my sound system crapping out?

Well the audio is definitely screwed, lot's of pops and clicks at least twice. As far as his voice goes, it sounds like it's had a few filters applied to it.

Let's hope this is just in this Youtube video.

SE2011 (ES EE Twenty Eleven) is my new name for it. Or just 11 for short.

You're probably right about the 97 credits, if they didn't point out what has changed and the (honestly) hard work done by someone in 2004 that probably didn't work for LFL/ILM in 97, why start now?

And while that Death Star video had terrible sound, I have to agree that only Nein Numb had that weird effect...

Very well put, sir.  More proof that he's just a lackey towing the line.

I really, really hope these youtube videos are taken from early tests on this sound mix. Those pops make me really sad, when was the last time you heard one of those on a professionally mixed movie?

I hear it too.  Sounds almost electronic.

And like someone else said, the sound effects pop too.

*sigh*

I just noticed he mentions the date every time. I'm pretty sure we know when its coming out.

Honestly, to hell with this garbage. Unless you're an idiot apologist, I can't fathom why any SW fan would want to buy these discs. Stick with bootlegs and torrents of the original movies and forget about wanting the crispest, cleanest picture imaginable. You enjoyed it on VHS on a small tv for years and years, after all.

Playing devil's advocate, there is some merit to this set. Some people here want to buy it in order to have a clear conscious when downloading other members HD projects.

There's also people who have grown up with the SE's and don't know any different or those that enjoy the prequels. There's no accounting for bad taste.

Me personally I wouldn't touch this set with KenKraly6000's hands.

Also it's nice to see hairy_hen come in here and tell us what's what. I hope you get to hear the new mix and are able to comment on it.

I wonder if things like this will be fixed:

http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-oE-xb6dbcUo/TSNYcBHrLUI/AAAAAAAAHbA/l1ckoFQkawU/s400/add-006.jpg

The top is the GOUT laser, which they redid digitally in 1997, which somehow lost ALL ITS COLOR in 2004. This does not make sense, my friends.

I believe the cantina scene only exists in that extended format within the Lost Cut, so it will be black and white. Wasn't there some black and white footage of Jenny and Han in another trailer, proving that it will be black and white, albeit possibly nicer and with less film artifacts?

Like in the deleted scene from the CD-Rom, Han is the only one to shoot (an English-talking) Greedo.

This.

Including other member's future PT HD projects.  Plus the bonus features, which are looking reasonably interesting...I'll probably end up buying it.  But I won't be as happy about it as I should be.  'Cause I ain't no idiot apologist....or at least, I ain't no apologist. ;-)

I've given Lucas enough money over the years to justify sticking with torrents of the UOT. There is a 720p version on youtube that is pretty good as well. I haven't explored any of the fan edits but would like to sometime in the near future.

so you have now been banned at blu-ray.com cowboy for posting the exact same rants that kenkraly constantly posts, yet he gets no ban? Figures. Very one sided over there.

Oh, and thanks see you auntie, Nien Numbs voice doesn't sound changed in that clip. I guess if they can't encode videos properly for the official star wars youtube channel, then what hope is there for the blu-rays ;)

I've made an image comparison between the shots from that Star Wars Blu-ray Up Close at LucasFilm: Part 3 of 3 and the HDTV-broadcast, and guess what? Nothing has changed, except for a little more brightness (and even that done so badly, the black bars aren't black anymore, but dark grey). For a better comparison I've also brightened up the HDTV-shots, and they look almost the same after that:

TESB 1: Blu-ray (?) / HDTV / HDTV (levels changed by me)
TESB 2: Blu-ray (?) / HDTV / HDTV (levels changed by me)
TESB 3: Blu-ray (?) / HDTV / HDTV (levels changed by me)

ROTJ 1: Blu-ray (?) / HDTV / HDTV (levels changed by me)
ROTJ 2: Blu-ray (?) / HDTV / HDTV (levels changed by me)
ROTJ 3: Blu-ray (?) / HDTV / HDTV (levels changed by me)
ROTJ 4: Blu-ray (?) / HDTV / HDTV (levels changed by me)

Just open them in different browser tabs and compare.

The article specifically mentions that Lucasfilm wants them to be called "HD Stills"... not "Blu-ray Screenshots" or anything, so maybe they're still not finished doing the color corrections? On the other hand it's pretty stupid to promote a Blu-ray with stills that don't represent the product...

Nice comparison. I guess Lucas is adamant about that color timing. I suppose I'm happy that there were the little color corrections in terms of lightsabers... still. By the way, did anyone notice that that article said that the TPM disc had the scenes from the DVD as well? If true, that would be fantastic news and probably true of the rest of the Prequel Trilogy deleted scenes.
