Lazy Lucas, whats dnr?

they call it digital noise reduction. it'  kinda hard for me to explain

but i saw it where they did this thing like a side by side

they left side was a dnr picture. the picture was all fake looking but they say they do it to get rid of grain or some bullshit. on the right side it looked a lot more real

they say it supposed to look better but i dont Think so.

DNR basically "cleans" the image of film grain. This in moderation is actually a good thing, as occasionally films have aged to a point that the prints used in restoration have accumulated excessive amounts of grain. However, the problem with DVR is that nobody seems to realize where enough is enough - and natural film grain is lost, depriving the viewer of detail that belongs in the film. The best examples of overdone DVR include certain Disney animated movies, the DVD remaster of Live and Let Die (for some reason the Blu-Ray looks miles better), and Citizen Kane.

Since it won't include the oot, Not interested.

No restored originals= no sale and a big fucking epic fail of galactic size.

Thanks again to the beard with an ego the size of the cosmos itself, thanks to Luca$h.

Pretty late for an April fool's joke, i wish it was a joke.

Another nail in the coffin for the oot, and star wars itself.

Star Wars Trilogy

1977-1983 R.I.P. killed by its own creator, truly sad.

“Always loved Vader’s wordless self sacrifice. Another shitty, clueless, revision like Greedo and young Anakin’s ghost. What a fucking shame.” -Simon Pegg.

All these movies have already been released, who need another, what we all WANT is a proper preservation of 'Ewoks on Ice'.

I will probably just download the set to see, and it won't be cash out of my pocket.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Gah, the Prequels already looks so irritatingly clean and fake - DNR will only make things worse. I can't say about the OT in BluRay, maybe it will help, maybe not. But the last thing the pristine, plastic-like image of the prequels needs is DNR.

I actually hope someone (in a fan edit, of course) will add grain, speckles and maybe dirt to some of the backgrounds and sets. It would make them far easier on the eye, and more realistic. The Prequels, IMHO, really haven't aged that well as far as CGI goes. :/

Er...

...surely you're not openly admitting future piracy?  Perhaps I've misunderstood?

A little more information...

The Digital Bits said:

Consider this Rumor Mill-worthy, but our own industry sources have actually been checking in with us in recent weeks on this very subject. Our latest information is that Lucasfilm tentatively plans the official Blu-ray release to happen in October 2011. Now, we've been hearing reports like this on and off for years, and until now little has come of it. So we've been waiting to say something here on The Bits until we had a hint of more official confirmation. But now that Sansweet has begun talking about the release, we feel more comfortable reporting on the word from our sources. Plans could obviously change and again, even though Sansweet has hinted that it's coming, none of this constitutes an official announcement. But if current plans remain unchanged, our sources say you'll be enjoying The Force in 1080p next October.

I've got a 26inch television so I don't see the point of getting any Blu Ray discs at all.

Especially if all I'm going to get is the same screwed up nonsense I paid for three of four times on the DVD sets (not to mention the Betamax and VHS sets I've paid for over the years) crunched down to fit on my sensible for the space available screen.

This old coot has been to his last uncle's night at the Star Whorehouse of Lucas (unless restored OUT theatrical cuts come in the package with loads of never before seen archive material).

Then...and only then might I power up my Davros mobile and see what the ladies have to offer (even then I'm haggling with Madame for generous usage of the egg whisk, the wet celery and the flying helmet).

Well if they get the picture even better (of course there'll be the annoying tint) at least ady has a great fundament for Jedi in 1080p I'd say...

I'm not expecting any "improvements" expcept if the horrendous puppet yoda in ep1 is replaced by the digital one... that would be cool

I haven't seen anything that suggests that the OOT -won't- be included. So until then, I'm going to be hopeful.

I emailed Bill Hunt at www.thedigitalbits.com to keep the pressure on Lucasfilm about the OOT on BluRay.  I know one person can't make a difference, but if people like him keep screaming to guys like Steve Sansweet about the OOT, you never know what can happen.

There is only so much bitchin and moaning we can do here, where we have to get somebody to relay our message.

Yeah, where's BAKeith?

IT'S MY TRILOGY, AND I WANT IT NOW!

"[George Lucas] rebooted the franchise in 1997 without telling anyone." -skyjedi2005

"Yeah, well, George says a lot of things..." a young 1997 xhonzi on RASSM

"They're my movies." -George Lucas. 19 people won oscars for their work on Star Wars (1977) and George Lucas wasn't one of them.

Rewrite the Prequels!

I have owned many versions of these films so I think it is time I didn't have to work hard for disappointment.

Oh, ok.

Wait, what?

This isn't even a fan edit grey area we're talking about.  This will be an official retail release that you're talking about stealing.  I don't think you are "owed" a free copy of this, no matter how disappointed you've been in the past.

You might want to rethink this.

ESF, please tell me this is a joke or some kind of put-on. Piracy is bullshit and it endangers not only OT.com, but the fan edit community as a whole. Please recant.

Hey man, if you're gonna pirate it at least don't mention it. I'd hate to lose you as a forum member just because of that-err, wait, didn't I make the same mistake a few threads ago?

Why would it endanger anyone? Piracy is the private business of the user, not the sites business, unless we start linking to torrents. Get a grip guys, no one is going to do anything for saying "i will download" something, if they did then pretty much every internet message board would be shut down. Especially since this is a hypothetical situation for a product that doesn't exist.

O rly?

Leaving aside the fact that the product doesn't exist yet, the forum rules state the following:

3. No discussions regarding traditional "warez", such as bootlegs of current or recent theatrical releases, screeners, pre-retail/retail DVDs, and cracked computer software.

Sorry, but once this is available, discussion of downloading it is against the rules.

I'm sure I will be corrected if I am wrong.  But more to the point, like bkev said, why mention it?
