Star Wars coming to Blu Ray (UPDATE: August 30 2011, No! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!) — Page 127

The reason that I put my .02 worth occasionally on sites like blu-ray.com, is not so that GL reads it, but so that the myriads of other people who don't even know there is this issue, read it.  Far more people read blu-ray.com than read ot.com.  And I figure that for each one of us, there are thousands that would agree if they knew about it.  I've even met a sound engineer at skywalker sound that didn't know this controversy existed.

That does not surprise me in the slightest. Even acknowledging the controversy around there is probably enough to get you fired. Juniors aren't even allowed to speak to Darth Sidious, er, I mean, George. And a company where you're not allowed to speak to the boss has got its priorities seriously wrong.

What we need is an awareness campaign.

Since when this thread on this website is about the exclusion of the OOT? I thought, as the title indicates, it was about the Blu-ray boxset.

In the future, I suggest actually reading the post to which you're responding. The very first sentence of my post you quoted says: "But this thread is about the upcoming Star Wars BluRay release." I nowhere asserted that this thread is "about the exclusion of the OOT," that phraseology originates with you. My point was that this thread is about the upcoming bluray boxset, the most recent news confirms that the OOT will not be on that boxset, and this website was formed for the express purpose of lobbying for the commercial release of the OOT. Therefore, it's reasonable to expect that members of this site will be discussing the OOT's exclusion from the upcoming boxset, given that the release of said upcoming boxset it what this thread is about.

Just found out? It was announced from the start.

"Just had confirmed to us," then, if you prefer. Given LFL's hype about how "all would be revealed" about the BR set on May 4th, the fact that May 4th confirmed what we had long suspected to be the case is worthy of discussion.

what else do you expect us to talk about in a thread dedicated to the discussion of the BluRay release?

Maybe discuss the actual Blu-ray release.

That's what we're doing. Discussion of the exclusion of an item that won't be on the boxset but should be, is just as much a discussion of the boxset itself as any discussion of what will be on it. Why is that so difficult for you to grasp? Presumably, we would be discussing what will be included in the BR release if any of it was worth talking about in the first place. The transfers of the movies themselves have already been discussed at length, actual documentary offerings are pretty paltry (and that's been discussed at length), and inclusion of a ninety-one minute compilation of pop-culture spoofs of Star Wars when the actual original Star Wars movies aren't even included in the set, is so asinine that it requires no commentary.

We're a bunch of original trilogy fans who just found out the original trilogy isn't coming out on the upcoming set; what else do you expect us to talk about in a thread dedicated to the discussion of the BluRay release?

As long as it isn't Criterion related, I'm cool. ;-)

Don't know we won't know until the set comes out on September 16th and no it will not be the same audio mixes as before why some people say it will be the same mix at least for the OT SE I don't understand Because we know that Ep 4 A New Hope will have some sounds changed for the blu-ray release such as obi-wan's new howl.

Which should not be a surprise since the clone wars and thx were released on blu ray in DTS.

The DTS on the blu ray is a codec however so they still could include the dolby mixes, but they won't it will be new dts mixes most likely even though Lucash never allowed the 1997 special edition laserdiscs to be in dts, never mind not releasing the 1997 version with its dts mix on blu ray or DVD.

The confusion had nothing to do with DTS...it had to do with the fact that the press release only mentioned DTS and failed to mention DTS-HD.

Correction the clone wars film had dolby true hd and the clone wars season blu-ray box sets have dolby digital core at 640kps.

Really i remmber reading they were going to do DTS interesting.  Still does not change the fact that the THX blu ray is in dts HD.

Star Wars and Dolby were paired together long before there was digital audio in every theater.

Since as Far as i understand it DTS HD Master audio 6.1 is a codec, and not a soundmix the point still stands.

Also if the Trilogy does indeed get new mixes done with DTS it remains to be seen.  It is possible these are just DOLBY Mixes in a DTS container.

Skywalker Sound and DOLBY  have been a team for a long time, i could not understand them pairing up with DTS digital to do new mixes, but whatever.

The new mixes on blu-ray in DTS HD Master Audio will sound great but we will have to wait and hear when the blu-rays box set comes out in September to see what changes tweaks have been made to the mixes for the OT SE's.

I know that no one has heard them yet but some people are rushing to judgement on them before the set even comes out.  When September 16th comes then we can judge in our own opinions how good the mixes will be.
