If he follows the previous DVD release pattern, there will be a set in 2013 that includes the OOT in SD DVD quality.

At least some people are perfectly happy with SD DVD. But let's hope it is not put on a Blu-ray.

If it has all or most of the quality control problems of 2004, I'd at least say you've been ripped off.

We will all see this September won't we, I just refuse to buy into this whole Doom and Gloom thing, and right out of the box label it an "Epic Fail", sorry, but until we have rock solid proof of this, and people have actually seen them in person, pretty much everyone is talking, well you figure it out.

Only a sith deals in absolutes.

*clarification: Some schmucks will buy it on release day.  Some cool dudes will also buy it on release day.  Didn't mean to perturb anyone.

You don't have to be psychic to know that the Blu-ray's are going to suck, because they are using the same masters as 2004. Even if that wasn't true, there will be problems on the release that will be there regardless of LFL "quality control." The pattern is simple: if they could not get SW right on VHS and DVD, then they won't on Blu-ray. That is the way with many movies other than SW: they are forever plagued with substandard video transfers. People who say we no solid proof these are going to suck apparently haven't paid attention to what LFL has said what they are going to do with their video releases.

What.  The.  Fuck.

...

I've thought about a bunch of different responses C3PX, but I'm not going to even bother.  It's not worth my time.

...

I'm almost certainly going to buy the set on BD because I'd like to download upcoming HD fanedits with a clean conscience.

And the reconstructions of the OT have gotten good enough that I can honestly say I'm ok if Lucas never releases the OOT.  Yes, I wish he would, but the world will go on, and we can still watch approximations that are close enough in my eyes.

Jesus Fucking Christ, where is your damn PROOF of this Professor? 2004 was 2004, it is NOW 2011! Fact of the matter is, NO ONE knows any of this for absolute SURE, damn, some of you spew this shit over and over without any proof whatsoever, all I am saying is we will see in September whether the rants are true or not, I myself will wait until then to judge, or unless something concrete comes out before hand, jeez, you must have seen the print already to be this sure of your comments.

after reading all your posts on this 1 thing comes to mind, let's say when these are released, they do have KICK ASS picture & sound, with ALL the HATE you spew you still wouldn't admit it would you, you would just find something else to bitch about, am I right?

We know that digital Yoda will be added and that TPM will look much nicer than the DVDs.

BUT we now know that there isn't much in the special features that we haven't seen and purchased before and we know how the DVD sets were handled.

Anyone paying full price at the time of release does so at their own risk.

Lucasfilm has a historical pattern of screw ups when it comes to Star Wars on DVD. First TPM has bad colouring and EE to the extreme in 2001, then OTSE is a total and utter fail in 2004, then the OOT is a total and utter fail in 2006. Instead of fixing them, they re-release the OT in at least three additional re-packages with all the same problems--surely if Lucas was aware of the issues he would fix them, if the films are not supposed to look like that. But with him supervising and approving the transfers himself, and watching said transfers himself on a number of occassions, he seems to deem them fine.

They've been airing the HD OT masters for years now. Also, while the SW in Concert tour had the new TPM footage, the OT footage appeared to be the same as the 2004 DVD. Plus, the trailer for the release promoted the films using new TPM footage and the same OT footage from 2004. Also, was it Steve Sansweet who said that the HD masters have been ready for years now?

We will wait and see, as you said. But there is ample reason to doubt Lucasfilm corrected anything, and based on their past history I think optimism is a bit naive. I will add that to me there is some possibility that they may have corrected some of the lightsaber issues, but this is total speculation on my part. It would be nice if they fixed all the issues, I guess, but history is not on Lucasfilm's side.

Well after they officially release a picture to promote one of the special features and make a monumental cock-up, you have to admit that it doesn't look too good for their quality control does it ;)

I love the fact that they have now deleted the picture since everyone slammed them for their mistake

OK, you have to be right, let's all just DAMN this whole release and dub it "Epic Fail" because of a damn picture, and box art, WOW, I stand corrected.

I better cancel my pre-order because of this proof, well I just saved $, unbelievable, that is all I can say.

Well, I have to be honest with you, I did not know that you were kidding me, I just could not tell, but I was really hoping you were, and now I see that you were, but I still stand behind what I have said, I really want to see this set in hand, on my system, before I judge, you have to admit, there is a lot of hate in this thread and it is just crazy ass ridiculous.

But have you seen the internet? The "hate" in this thread is really, really mild.

Just try to read through some of the 689 pages at blu-ray.com on this subject, my GOD.

Thats why i think we need the emoticons back here. ;) just doesn't get noticed as easily as a little yellow ball winking.

I will be getting the Blu-Ray set for my edits, but luckily the release date falls in the month of my 10 year wedding anniversary, so i won't have to pay a penny for it ;)

The one thing that really pisses me off though is how the SE's and the PT have split the star wars fandom so much, thanks to Lucas' burial of the OUT. There was never this kind of hatred present within the fan base before all this happened, starting in 1997. You have the PT/ SE gushers on one side and the hard line OUT fans on the other, with the rest of us somewhere in the middle core, but still managing to battle between each other. It use to be fun being a Star Wars fan but now it's just so damn hard work.

I wish they had given a little more details about the technical aspect of the Blu-Rays.  With each film getting a 6.1 DTS audio track i guess that means every film will have a new mix. I'm really hoping that they take a leaf out of the Clone Wars tv series surround tracks and have the dialogue and FX in the centre channel without any music bleed through. This would be a fan editors wet dream ;)

Do you think that they won't do that with the center channel just for that reason?

Fair enough, well said, but I am not sure where I fit in your sides LOL, I actually like ALL films, I hate none of them, but I do prefer the UOT because that is what my best Friend and I snuck into to watch ALL day long LOL back in the day.

God, those were the days when you could sneak in to the first showing and stay in all day.  I remember doing that with the Star Wars/ ESB double bill and then again with ROTJ and finally with the ESB/ROTJ double bill. Every day for the 2 weeks they were showing them. A group of us would go and only 1 would buy a ticket then open the back door to let the rest of us in before the usherette would come in to sell the ice creams. never got caught :)

That is exactly what I am talking about, we were young and dumb, had nothing better to do but watch Star Wars all day long and collect Star Wars cards, damn I used to love that little sliver of gum in those packs LOL, then we would do this same thing with Empire and Jedi, I can still remember the look on both our faces when Vader told Luke "I am your Father".

What's sad is I'm sure Lucas had no idea that would happen and probably even regrets it. (And could make it go away with a simple catalog blu-ray at the same effort level as SUDDEN IMPACT). But he's so dug in and entrenched now. Reminds me of The Departed: " I'm fuckin' Irish, I'll deal with something being wrong for the rest of my life."

That's all we want, is to see the OT before the SE changed it all. GL's stubbornness has ruined it all, since he feels the original version should not be seen by anyone. They are not the Holiday Special Lucas, you don't have to smash every copy of the pre-97 OT. Yet he treats them as equivalent. And it doesn't help that he has completely ruined his legacy by making the PT. If the PT was not even half as terrible as it ended up, we could accept the idea that GL was a genius and a good filmmaker instead of schizophrenic businessman and cinematic hoax.
