You know, we kind of asked for this...

I was just looking over some of the fan response at tf.n and stopped by here, when I remembered a portion of Bill Cosby: Himself. I do not have a transcript of the routine, but I think I can remember enough for you to get the idea:

Bill: We prayed for a healthy baby and that was it. What we didn't know, is that God has a sense of humor and if you leave that much wiggle room, some great practical jokes are going to happen.

Well, I get the feeling that's what happened. Not saying George is God, but we were not specific enough with him. We left to much to his interpretation.

I don't agree at all. The respect that the OUT is getting on DVD isn't even the same amount shown to a third-rate straight-to-DVD monster movie. It's not interpretation, it's adherence to industry standards.

I used to be very active on this forum. I’m not really anymore. Sometimes, people still want to get in touch with me about something, and that is great! If that describes you, please email me at [my username]ATgmailDOTcom.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

We asked for the original, theatrical edition of the movies.
Maybe I've simply forgotten how Jay phrased his petition, but I don't recall anything about cleaning it up, making the sound better, etc.

As for the 3rd-rate monster movies...I've got Planet of the Dinosaurs on DVD...about as 3rd rate as you can get (in fact, I'd say it aspires to be 3rd rate). Its not widescreen, I don't think its anamorphic and it looks like someone made it from an old BETA tape (which is still better than an old VHS tape).

If the quality on that disk is what we get from George, I'll be ticked off enough I may WALK to Skywalker Ranch (from Cleveland), personally hand deliver the disks back to George and add in a slap to his double-chinned face while I'm there.

In some ways I agree with ya, but in others, I totally disagree.

As for Anamorphic, it is an industry standard and has been since 2001, every DVD is encoded in Anamorphic, even crap titles like Gigli. This should be of good quality, that was always a given, because if we wanted Laserdisk quality, why would we want DVD's?

But as for the specifics after that, I was always afraid this would happen. I think many of us differ on what we want on these movies, or what the O-OT exactly is.

For me, I think it should be exactly like the E.T. release on DVD. Both versions, original & SE, both have the same exact transfer, and the only difference is the special effects & changes that Spielberg put in 2002. Both have 5.1 DD, and 2.0 Dolby Surround which it was in the theaters in 1982.

I thought the O-OT should have the same quality as the 2004 DVDs, except the bad lightsabers and the wrong surrounds used for ANH score. They both should be 5.1 DD, and 2.0 Surround like they were in the theater. I want to be able to choose between the SE & O-OT without any difference in quality. Now I know if I want great quality, it is probably going to be the SE.

Now, as I have read lately, that is not what everyone wants, and that is the dilemma we face for not being specific.

There's no reason to buy this (if it's not anamorphic), if you have the LD's or a couple of the bootlegs out there. It's made from the same source, only nice and compressed. And even the audio is a giant step backwards.

Way to go, Lucas. We've waited for this release for 9 years. This is the reason some people bought DVD players in the first place. And when it finally comes out, it's from.... the laserdisc master.

I think you got to be pretty stupid if you bought a DVD player for the original trilogy when there was no original trilogy available. It's like buying a gameboy so you can play Halo.

Anyway, I'm with the guy that says he'd like the OT but to have the stuff of good quality. I don't want the SE cause that's not the original. I spose if they can edit out the new stuff it won't bother me so much. But only if they really did remove everything that wasn't originally there.

Well, I bought the 2004 DVDs EXPECTING the OOT and SEs to be on it. And I don't think I was amiss or unreasonable in that expectation, given the standard of other box sets at the time, as well as all the excitement surrounding the release.
MTFBWY. Always.

Well, I know I wasn't holding my breath at the time. In fact, the summer before I read an article that stated they were only the SEs. But, as many people pointed out in the past, the box itself was horribly misleading: "The three classic films, yadda, yadda." They're just mean over there is what they are.

C3PX said: Gaffer is like that hot girl in high school that you think you have a chance with even though she is way out of your league because she is sweet and not a stuck up bitch who pretends you don’t exist… then one day you spot her making out with some skinny twerp, only on second glance you realize it is the goth girl who always sits in the back of class; at that moment it dawns on you why she is never seen hanging off the arm of any of the jocks… and you realize, damn, she really is unobtainable after all. Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.
