Okay then, here’s my very rushed Red Exegol as a test. It’s a start I guess?

Makes me realize how accustomed I’ve gotten to seeing blue-tinted scenes because, even though they’re equally saturated, the red looks way more (as Sheev would say) unnatural.

You’ve got to ask yourself one question: “Am I making Carrie Fisher’s ghost proud?”
Well, are ya, punk?

The lightsaber shots are a little iffy. As sucky as it would be, it’d probably yield better results to outright rotoscope new blades on top after recoloring everything else (assuming you’re going for that level of drastic color shift).

An orange tone might work better?

It certainly needs less red. Here’s something I came up with:

Ben Blood

There is very little color information here, and almost no red in the backgrounds which required first using the channel mixer to add it back in. It’s easy to overdo, however, since things like the bloody bruise on Ben’s cheek should still read as separate from the skin tones, and those should be more red than the background.

Oranger is definitely better. Everything looks a lot more sickly which makes Sheev a bit more disgusting.

Not a big fan of red Exegol. Looks less unnatural, but it is very reminiscent of Mustafar. I think stormy blue Exegol compliments Palpatine’s Force lightning nicely, but maybe that’s just me. I do like the increasd brightness though. Being able to see is always a priority.

What if Exegol was a rainbow planet that shifted through the entire spectrum at a slow steady rate? It’d be kinda silly (okay, really silly), but neat to see. Maybe we can give it a try.

As far as I’m aware, if you regrade Exegol you’re gonna have to manually adjust the lightsaber effects, regardless.

With a little time, the lightsabers shouldn’t be a problem. I can’t do a whole lot with my current quarantine setup.

Ouch. I personally wouldn’t even bother, but I appreciate the effort people are putting in. I’ve gotten pretty lazy with my editing lately and it seems like if a project becomes too hard I give up faster than I should… 😄
Since you’re still here RogueLeader, I’d be curious to know how Leia’s saber is coming along now that the BluRay is out? I was going to mention this earlier, but I noticed with your last picture of Ben and Rey that the purple glow seemed to be coming a little too far down onto the hilt. Or does it usually look that way?

Anything that you’ve seen me post before have been quick and dirty tests just to share what an idea might look like. If I decide to do an edit of the film, or edit certain scenes, I will start from scratch using the BluRay as a source. Right now I’m just working on a high quality edit of one specific scene, unrelated to lightsaber effects.

I think it might be better to give the interior of the temple a different colour than the exterior, maybe sandy red on the outside, black and grey inside.

I had a thought on just changing all the fog in the interior to a greenish and possibly add nightsister chanting from the Clone Wars to add to the resurrection aspect. Not a necessary edit but it could be neat to play around with, and if not it’s just another color change option.

Ugh! I was legitimately engaged in the discussion before someone managed to bring up my stupid forest establishing shots! I’ve said before that I’m not going to bother with Mustafar anymore. Anyone care to share any screenshots of a colour changed Exegol, just for the sake of changing the subject? 😄

Um… okay? You don’t have a monopoly on the idea, I think it’s a worthwhile subject that we should continue to pursue.

This looks pretty cool, honestly. I wouldn’t go for that angle personally but it’s not a bad look. The blue to me drives home the secret and sinister vibe, while the orange would give it a nice apocalyptic tone, which could be cool.

I’m terms of color information, I know some were able to rip a non HDR graded version of the prequels off Disney plus, is it possible for the TROS 4kBD to yield the same log style image when ripped?

Here is a much less drastic Exegol test I whipped up yesterday

This idea deserves a lot of respect!

From an EU perspective, we know that the Nightsisters had resurrection-like magics, and we know that Palpatine cowed them during the Clone Wars.

But the key here is that even without knowing that, it still works. The green is a lovely evil shade that takes us off the usual blue-red Jedi-Sith spectrum and implies that Palpatine has tapped into even more mysterious arcane methods to bring about his return.

I think that this, coupled with changing the vats to have Palpatine bodies, uses all of the established Star Wars rules to far better justify Palp’s return:
Cloning technology + ‘many abilities some consider to be unnatural’ + Nightsister magics => ‘More than a clone, less than a man’.

Damn. Orange, green, more neutral… there are a lot of good options here!

I do have to say that since the Starkiller battle in TFA is a blue climax, and a lot of reds dominate the climax of TLJ (throne room and Crait), the idea of green Exegol is pretty compelling at least for the sake of it being visually unique from the other films in the trilogy.

And if changing Ajan Kloss to Naboo works out, the green here can also signify Sheev being reborn in the color of his home since Naboo is mostly known for its greens. Naboo everywhere. Just need to fit in some gungans somewhere to complete the masterpiece!

Having the whole scene coloured green could be a little too campy, maybe keep the green exclusively for the smoke behind Palpatine.

Agreed, idir, A little more subtlety in the green might be best. I think I’d favour a greyscale planet (“dead”) with green fog around the emperor (“mysteriously arcane”), a colour scheme I’d call ‘necron’.

I ran with RogueLeader’s idea to produce the following test-run of the final TROS scene. The last shot is Rey’s ignition of her lightsaber.
