I actually don’t like Solana. Solana basically sounds like a combination of Solo and Organa, just how Kylo sounds like a combination of Skywalker and Solo.

Is that actually the origin behind the name? God, I would really hate that if it were true.

I have reached a point where I genuinely dont have it in me to want a different version of TROS. TLJ is incredibly layered, and adds some nuance to star wars, then TROS comes in and we got a goofy adventure.

But I’m not mad over it, this was the same in the original trilogy, ESB is incredible and fantastically layered, and then ROTJ comes in and all sense of tension no longer exists lol. But that’s star wars and I love it all.

I am delighted with the way Hal’s next cut is turning out, I’m excited to watch it and look at it as the definitive cut for the trilogy.

Star wars is a mess, but it’s a lovable mess.

What, no Turkey?!

I totally get that, Creation. I also see TROS in that way at times.

But at the same time, after going through the novelization I came to realize how agonizingly close TROS was to being a good finale not only for the sequels but also for the saga as a whole. I guess in order to avoid that frustration for the actual movie I’ll just have to consider it exactly as you said: a goofy adventure.

Totally agree. I constantly flip back and forth in my mind if I even want to continue working on my edit, because over time I’ve accepted the movie much more and more and make less and less edits. But for now I just see the edit as a stepping stone to eventually fully liking and being okay with the movie lol. It’ll definitely go the route of the prequels eventually. The plot and characters will be cleaned up by EU content, bad dialogue will become loved for being unintentionally funny, and there will be new content people will hate instead.

So I’m constantly like “Do I even need to do this edit…? I’m pretty okay with the movie at this point” but then immediately remember how much stuff like the color correction, Force ghosts, etc improve the movie for me. So my aim with my edit is to just enhance the movie thats already there without actually changing/removing anything, just adding on or making filmmaking fixes, which is why I’ve been calling it “TROS: Enhanced” in my head.

If you follow the Ascendant thread, you’ll remember my very long comment regarding the geography of Ahch-To and how long Rey was canonically there:

https://originaltrilogy.com/topic/the-rise-of-skywalker-ascendant-released/id/71835/page/396#1415130

TLDR: Because of a filmmaking error regarding a “sunrise” actually being a sunset, the TROS novelization clarified that Rey actually arrived on the island in the evening and stayed overnight, leaving in the morning (I confirmed all of this with hefty research on the island’s locations, geography, maps, etc.) so my goal is to clarify this in the movie and actually make it fit canon better.

In my version, Rey arrives at dusk, Luke and her chat about fear, Leia, etc., Rey sleeps overnight, she wakes up in the morning, and leaves after Luke lifts the X-Wing.

So I’ve worked with Nev’s recolor of the scenes, inserted some island shots from TLJ along with a shot of Rey sleeping (zoomed in to hide her different outfit a bit), and reworked the Ajan Kloss scenes to further imply the sense of time passing. Ignore/mute the sound because I haven’t done anything with it yet, but here’s the mockup. The only thing I think needs some reworking still is the transition from Rey in the hut to D-O and Finn, which is a bit abrupt.

Update on this: I’ve now worked out some audio to go with it. I started the clip at the end of the scene so it would fit on Vimeo, but you can check the link my previous post to see how the first part is set up.

I’m not sure how improve the transition from the hut scene back to Ajan Kloss (especially since it opens with D-O loudly rumaging through tools…). but I’m pretty happy with the transition I’ve made from Ajan Kloss back to Ahch-To. The new audio is just a slowed/reverbed version of Rey’s theme I found, but I’m curious if anyone has a suggestion that could fit better.

The Art of the Force Awakens book refers to Rey repeatedly as Kira.
What I find interesting is that in the Solo movie they basically recycle that name (Kira becomes Qi’ra).
There’s also a fair amount of pre-production art in there for TFA that appears to have found it’s way into later efforts, including The Mandalorian (sometimes blatantly and sometimes more nuanced).

Has anyone tried removing the music entirely from the Rey vs. Palpatine fight properly? Starting from Rey getting up and initially reflecting the lightning, then cut to the Resistance, then cut back to the Palpatine fight all the way until Rey destroys Palpatine for good.

Because I am thinking of experimenting with putting in music from Revenge of the Sith into a large portion of the scene.

What ROTS track are you trying to put in?

This little bit from the Shadows of the Empire OST gave me Exegol vibes so I stuck it in. Amusing, but not anything worth doing seriously for an edit (plus it’s way too short).

Well, it took 3 hours and still needs a ton of work, but here’s a mockup of what my idea would look like:

This is great! I, too, got chills.

My only real constructive criticism is that the final shot of Luke’s face when it punches in is too clearly different from the previous shot. I’d keep the same blurry image of a figure standing in the smoke we just saw, rather than suddenly having a sharp close-up of his face.

Alternatively, you could have the broadcast cut off slightly later than it does, so everyone sees one super clear shot of Luke emerging from the smoke before the signal is cut. That could be a cool iconic image.

Battle of the Heroes. Starts at 1:30 and ends at 1:57 with Rey pulling in the Skywalker lightsaber and declaring herself as “all the Jedi”.

I’m interested to see how that goes, I’m currently putting Battle of the Heroes overtop of the Kef Bir duel, it’s incredible how fitting it is

Did you ever try to put a bit of Across the Stars on the Ben/Rey scene?

I’ll get to trying that soon, I’ve been working through the film in order while editing it and just started the Battle of Exegol today.

Is it possible to change “The Princess of Alderaan has disrupted my plans…” to “The boy has disrupted my plans…” (referring to Kylo Ren redeeming himself as Ben Solo)? Leia wasn’t the one who redeemed Ben or caused his redemption, she was just calling out to him and he was distracted and Rey injured him, then he had a hallucination of Han and redeemed himself.

Episode IX is supposed to have Leia play an integral role in the story. I believe the intention was to create the impression that Leia was the one who redeemed Ben, but obviously that isn’t what comes across the screen for everyone. But I do believe that the fact that she is carrying Han’s medal while calling out to him implies she is forgiving him in that moment, which definitely would play a critical role in his redemption.

I agree with JJB, this was Leia’s last shot & i think it would be a disservice to change it,but i get why you would want to change it.

I think looking at the ST, movie 1 is about han, movie 2 is about luke & movie 3 was supposed to be Leia’s & i think they accomplished it better than alot of people could when you look at the limited amount of footage they had.

What, no Turkey?!

I get where both of you’re coming from, but in the film it doesn’t look like Leia is directly responsible for Kylo Ren’s redemption. I believe I’ve seen an idea or headcanon that Leia Force-projected that image of Han? Has this been experimented with yet?

Author

Unfortunately they had to do it that way because of the limited Leia footage. Otherwise I’m sure the scene between Han and Ben would have been a conversation between her and Ben.

That goes beyond just our heads and is actually what’s canon AFAIK 😃

Whoah.

Edit: Wait, hang on. We know the Sequel trilogy often had names which were directly related to other characters.

Kylo = Skywalker + Solo.

So how about this:
It’s not Luke
It 's not Luke
‘S no’ ke
Snoke

Too much of a stretch? That ‘ke’ at the end there is suspicious either way.

And damn, if there was one person Palpatine would want to clone into a servant, it’d be Luke…

I hope this is some kind of misdirect, or he’s like, just taking some of Luke’s genes to get the Midichlorians for his strandcasts or whatever. The new canon mostly does a decent job of not plucking the sillier elements of Legends. Doesn’t Mando, which is set years after this comic, suggest that the cloning still hasn’t achieved Force sensitivity - that’s why Herzog wanted Grogu so badly, right?

Edit: irrelevant note - does anyone have any idea of how to more clearly communicate that Rey deflecting the lightning back at Sheev is also killing her? In the movie she just randomly collapses, and I think it’d land a lot better if it was made clear that she was sustaining injuries while fighting him. It’d also make her come across as braver to keep pushing despite being hurt, it’d make Sheev continuing to zap her seem mildly less foolish if he was actually doing some damage.

Well, after she says “I am Iron Man” you could have it so the energy from the infinity stones more obviously injures her too.
