This would be difficult to do since it would maybe change the timing but I’ll keep this in mind though and see if others feel the same way. I personally like how the track starts as Kylo declares what he truly desires. Maybe just fading it in a tad more? Thanks for the suggestion!

I present the first rescored scene in the edit. This is the scene of Kylo pleading for Rey to join him. The track I chose to rescore the scene with is the second half of “Anakin’s Dark Deeds” (non-orchestral section) from the episode three soundtrack.

I love the emotion that it adds and I feel it fits perfectly. Tell me what you all think!

I usually do NOT like rescores for a number of reasons — namly because fanedits try to place more emphasis on the new music than the existining content — but this actually fits pretty well. My main takeaways:

• It’s too loud. The dialog needs to be the forefront.
• It’s too long. The big crescendo at the end needs to come before Hux starts talking. You’re going to have to cut the song somewhere in the middle and piece it together, I think.

I will try fading it in more and maybe just taking a part of the looping musical sequence of the first section of the track and try clipping that on earlier.

That sounds like a good idea to see a condensed version of them getting out. I’ll try something out along those lines soon.

I will work on the timing in the Hux section and try having the music finish when we cut to Hux but I don’t follow the hand reaching out moment your talking about.

Hmm. I would need to watch the scene again. I’m wondering if you could reuse a shot of the walkers firing combined with one of the shots of the other speeders getting hit. There’s plenty of examples in that sequence of the speeders getting picked off. Wondering if you could cut part of it in time it with Rose hitting Finn’s speeder.

At 1:35, Kylo reaches out but the music swells a few seconds later.

Oh, I like how it swells with him stepping forward and then a close up of his hand. Like TK-422 I feel it works but I will be testing around with various options to improve the sequence. I wholeheartedly agree that the music doesn’t work when we return to Hux and will work to fix it.

During the Supremacy infiltration I have tried out cutting the first section of Finn and Rose at the door. This is when DJ gives the medallion back and Finn calls Poe. The sequence now flows as the following:

Finn and Company Enter Ship
Rey and Kylo in Elevator
Snoke Welcomes Rey
Poe Enters Bridge

And the next you see of Rose and Finn is Poe asking how close they are and them saying “almost there!”, as DJ finishes hacking the door. This feels like a good way to streamline the pacing of the scene and keep it moving and focused on the more interesting aspects of what’s going on. I know some want to extend this sequence with the deleted scene but I have a different goal in mind so I just am curious if this is a good way to do so.

I can’t post any clips till I get back from spring break but wanted ya’lls thoughts on this idea.

Yeah, I already cut it together and everything flows very nicely 😃

I also mercilessly removed all of the stupid jokes on the Supremacy.

Once I get home from spring break Sunday night I’ve got a good number of clips including that and another one to show off including how I handled getting rid of Leia’s force flight in space 😃

-Cut away from bridge explosion before Leia flys out, to the reaction of Kylo.
-We go from Hux saying “It is only a matter of time” to Leia being carried away on stretcher.

I’m testing this out to see if the audience can fill in the gaps or not. The basic flow in my opinion is that you see the bridge get hit, you question if Leia is alright, and then you get your answer when you see her being carried away on the stretcher.

Yeah, the problem with the audio is that the music fading into the Kylo shot is needed but it comes with sound effects too. I might have a solution for this by using the soundtrack and syncing it up.

Here is a VERY ROUGH cut of what I am thinking for the speeder run with Finn. Basic idea is he gets right up to it, and then he gets locked on by an AT-AT and blasted away (similar to what Ivan Ortega has done).

So far I think I will be changing the target lock sound effect, smooth out the music transition when he gets hit, and possibly remix the sfx a bit. EDIT: I realized that flipping the reaction shot of Finn to getting blasted would help with spatial continuity.

Any other suggestions or feedback on this idea would be great.

First, for the Leia scene it is visually good, just needs the music side of things fixed/tweaked.

As for the Finn and the speeder scene, I like the idea lot. If the tarot lock affect can be cleaned up and altered to help look more … “official?” I like the idea. The next big thing would be scrubbing Rose’s speeder from the collision. Other than that … I like it.
