Star Wars: The Interactive Video Board Game (1996, Parker) (* unfinished project *)

Hello, I’m not sure where to post this. I’ve heard of a game called “Star Wars - The Interactive Video Board Game” which has been released by Parker in 1996. It seems to include a VHS on which there is never before seen Vader footage (which has been shot for the game). So my question (for I’m unable to buy the game anywhere and I have no credit card so I can’t order it online): are these sequences available somewhere in the internet? Or has someone got them and would care to upload them?
I don’t want to ask for something that’s considered illegal on these boards (after all, on myspleen.net there’s a whole lot of such videos online which aren’t available anymore), I’d just very much like to finally see these sequences (for which I’ve been searching for quite some time actually).
Thanks in advance .

I have this, although I only watched it the one time I played the game (lame crap). I can do a capture through my camcorder, then render to DVD, but most of my equipment is low-end. If anyone with better equipment wants to volunteer, I'd be happy to lend them the tape.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

If there's enough interest in it, I could do it. I've got a copy of the game/tape.

Hi everybody. You’re all awesome. Keep up the good work.

If this is the one with the new footage of Vader, it would certainly be a good addition to the other things being preserved. Dave Prowse back in suit again, JEJ does the voice, and the new footage was shot by the same director of photography who worked on the original movie!

It is the tape with the new footage and JEJ's voice, but I had no idea that it was Prowse and the original cinematographer! I'll try to encode this when I get home, before I move back to skool.

Actually, it's footage with Prowse in the suit, but the voice is not done by JEJ. It sounds somewhat like him, but it's definitely someone else. I still have the tape and it's got some pretty cool footage of Vader storming around the corridors of the Death Star, etc.

I remember reading something about it a while back. It was completely new footage captured just for that game. It was Dave Prowse in the suit, but I don't know if it was JEJ. I got confused before thinking of the energizer bunny commercial in which they again filmed all new footage and had someone (not Dave Prowse) in the Darth Vader suit. I think I read about it in an old Star Wars Insider magazine. It would be great if someone could capture that from the tape.

Aha! I thought I might still have the article about this. For the record, it is the voice of James Earl Jones.

Here it is:

Dave Prowse Goes Back Under the Mask

Last summer in London, David Prowse donned Vader's helmet for a special shooting of footage for a new Hasbro European Star Wars board game called Star Wars: The Interactive Video Board Game. Hasbro spared no expense to bring back the original for the shoot. "They wanted it to be as authentic and as close to the film as could be," says ILM's Nelson Hall, who served as costume supervisor and Lucasfilm liaison on the shoot. Hasrbo utilized all original costumes and props, hired the original set-makers, Dick Geroge Productions, to create the scene, and even coaxed original Star Wars cinematographer Gil Taylor, now in his 80s, out of retirement to shoot the footage. They even procured James Earl Jones to do Vader's voice.
In the game each player leads an assault on the Death Star. Game pieces are moved around the board as players get closer and closer to the Death Star's reactor shaft in hopes of disabling it. While the game is being played, an hour-long videotape plays a shot of the Death Star approaching a Rebel Planet. At completely inopportune moments the exclusive new footage of Vader suddenly interrupts the gameplay with severe repercussions for the players.
Currently the American release of the game is planned for the fourth quarter of '96 as a Toys 'R Us exclusive.

Ahh, yes, that's the article I remember! When I still had a subscription to the Insider.

Thanks for sharing that article. It's amazing that Lucas didn't take advantage of this to shoot new scenes for the special editions! Or shoot the end of Episode III.

Like I said, I'll encode it to a DVD when I get home, but I don't know how I'll distribute it. If anyone wants to seed it as a torrent somewere or upload it to the newsgroup, let me know (by sending me an email at reverendbeast AT gmail DOT com, and not by PMing me) and I'll send you a disc sometime next week.

Why not upload it somewhere like on rapidshare or megaupload? Then, a few people could download it and seed it as a torrent (I'd try to, altough I've never done that before ).

Has anyone made this available anywhere to download yet? I used to have this, but it's been lost in one move of house or another. Fell by the wayside like so many things I wish I still had :-(

Just out of curiosity is this footage by any chance widescreen?

The odds of a mid-90s era VHS-based game being in WS are about zero.

Sure thing, DAYV.

And no, it's not widescreen. I haven't gotten home to rip it yet, I will this week.
