the man, who didnt even post his name, couldnt write a single paragraph about Star TREK without bashing The Phantom menace. HELLO! What exactly do these two things have in common! NOTHING! Hey mr UGO writer, STFU!

But this is what I am talking about. I can never read anything without dealing with this.

Obviously, both the new Star Trek and The Phantom Menace have in common the fact that they are both prequels to two separate much loved sci-fi franchises. So it is not like they don't have anything in common. It is natural to compare them, as it seems Star Trek is following Star Wars example by going back to the beginning rather than exploring further into the future.

I sympathize with the fact that people speaking negatively about the PT bugs the crap out of you. You can go around ordering people to shut the fuck up all you like (something you and your wife seem to have a bad habit of), but the result of doing so is just going to make people dislike you, and you can bet their feelings against the PT will persist.

Maybe instead of telling everyone to SuckTheFuckUp, you should GetTheFuckOverIt. Perhaps you are taking the internet too seriously? Maybe some time away from the computer screen would do you good.

Seriously, don't let things get to you so much. You'll live longer.

Well the new trek is clearly going to suck no models only cgi, and those overly bright HD color from video and not film.

Just based on the few shots up there i hate the movie and jj already.  When he asid they were gonna do so star wars in trek he was clearly emphasizing the bad prequels and not the ones shot with models and motion control cameras.  You know the real star wars trilogy.  just like treks 1-6 are the only real trek films though first contact was ok.

The model Dysktra and Trumbell used on star trek the motion picture should have never been sold.  That model was beautiful.  Now some asshole rich trekky has it either in his addic or basement.

With Enterprise and Nemesis they went fully digital and not for the better the spaceships all look too pristine and unreal.  and the bad acting in nemesis really was on par with the star wars prequels.  The only thing i like about the movie is the soundtrack by goldsmith, too bad Jerry died and now some upstart gets to score the new movie.

Guess who is doing the lackluster cgi fakery yes you guessed right the boys at ILM.  So yes this movie will look like the bad star wars movies.  overly bright graphics, crushed whites and blacks and video game color scheme.

You know who gave this turd an advance good review Kevin Smith the same jerk who gave phantom menace a good review.  Who also Raved about Dark Knight and Watchmen.  I think they could suck too, well maybe not dark knight, lol.

I take it you don't enjoy TNG, Skyjedi?  Although, the series was far better than the movies, I did like Insurrection.  Coulda used more models though.

I'm witholding judgement until I see it.

actually i loved tng the series but the movies sucked.  on average they were pretty mediocre or like tv episodes up on the big screen.

Generations, first contact, insurrection all felt like tv episodes extended.  Nemesis is probably the only one which tried for the big theatrical movie appoach and failed miserably.  The shows strengths were that it was a serial based show with some stand alone episodes and the characters had a chance to be developed through seven seasons but they never really did develop at all.  Deep space nine had much better writing and characterization but Lacked the Spacehip Earth type thing.  Well at least until they put in the defiant but a little too late.

And now Patrick Stewart is more well known to the kiddies as Professor X of X-men than Jean Luc Picard.  That being said i always Liked Kirk, bones, and spock they were so much better characters and the old show was very clearly a space western.   Then when During Star Trek II came along meyer made it into a naval type series like horatio hornblower.

The navel type series is the Star Trek I like the best. Even though I watched TOS as a kid, I honestly have a very hard time sitting through an episode of TOS now.

Lately I have been watching DS9, I didn't see it during its first run, so I am trying to catch up by watching every episode in order. At the moment I am in the middle of season three, and I still think TNG is a far better series. The first thing that stood out to me about DS9 is how horrendous the writing and acting is. TNG sufferend from this for the first few seasons, so I have been patiently waiting for DS9's acting and writing to improve. I guess the writing has gotten a bit better, but the acting is still painful as can be. I guess Sisko continues to speak as woodenly as possible for all 7 seasons? Ouch.

I love TOS, and I like what I've seen of TNG.  Can't sit through an episode of it, though, C3PX?  I'm saddened.  I, too, enjoy the overly naval aspects that Meyer added to the movies (gotta love those double-breasted jackets!), but in some ways, a lot of episodes of the series give me the same feeling.

But I have to admit that one episode I saw last summer and liked ("The Deadly Years") was one I watched a few weeks ago and just couldn't stand.  It's fun to watch them get all old, but the plot was just ridiculous.  "Hey, the most important officers on this ship are getting older by the second and could die in a few minutes, so let's hold a lengthy competency hearing to find out if the clearly senile Kirk is fit for command!  Let's throw in a useless romance that goes nowhere just for the hell of it.  And, for no logical reason, let's cross into the Romulan Neutral Zone. I'm sure nothing bad can come of that!"  Yeesh.

EDIT:  Oh, and just in case Ziz is still taking my earlier posts seriously, I'd like you to meet my friend, Sarcastic Hyperbole.  I'm sure you two will get along great.  ^_~

Don't worry, Gaffer, I can recognize sarcasm when I see it.  Too bad a lot of other people can't.

Perhaps I should elaborate on that one. I have seen every episode of TOS at least once, if not more than once. I used to enjoy it alot, I popped in the tribble episode a couple of months ago, and was bored to death. Any time I try to watch an episode of it now, I never make it to the end. As lame as the stories are, I still enjoyed them (many of them, some episodes are downright crap) but having seen them all before and knowing the stories, I really have no interest to watch them anymore. So don't be too saddened Gaffer, I gave them their chance and they have had their turn. Presently, I much more enjoy what Star Trek has evolved into than what it has evolved from.

I liked watching the original series in reruns as a kid, but I never really got into Star Trek until the later seasons of TNG got me hooked. There are many brilliant episodes from that period of the show. Still, Star Trek TOS is good fun.

What I like about the original series is that most of the episodes involve some sort of moral dilemna that doesn't have an obvious or easy answer.  Often lurking underneath the cheesy action was a fairly heady topic with multiple viewpoints.  In that respect, it was often an intelligent show.

LOL Nice one!

I'll go for the "It's Lucas' damn property and he can do with it what he likes!" version, possibly to include some deleted scenes that expand the story.

Get over yourselves people! If you don't like what Lucas has done, or not done, with HIS creation....how about you take some of that pent up creative (or so you may think) energy and create your own franchise/property???

See, this is where I disagree.

Firstly, Lucas is not the only person responsible for Star Wars. It's not like a novel writer who writes a book all by themselves. Actors, directors, writers and all manner of crew and other people contributed significantly to Star Wars. Without them it would not have been the Star Wars we love. Lucas did not create Star Wars by himself. It's not just his creation, it's other people's creation too.

Secondly, the Star Wars trilogy is not any old film, they're classics and as classics they are works of art that are collectively owned. Legally Lucas may own them, but morally we all do. And he mutilated this dear beloved thing that belongs to all of us. He had no right to destroy a classic. What he did was a crime.

so why don't other people get blamed for all the issues with Star Wars?????????????????????????????, he's not the only

person involved with the SE, but no seems to remember that, or believe it..   they only blame him.

maybe to you they are classics, but not to everybody... i would hardly call 'the empire strikes back',

or 'return of the jedi' classics..... only the first one....

and no, i don't agree with the 'morally' part either, what does that mean?

And he mutilated this dear beloved thing that belongs to all of us. He had no right to destroy a classic. What he did was a crime.

no it does 'not belong to all of us', why do you think that?

and what crime exactly happened?

He's to blame for the special edition because it was his initiative. The special editions and the prequels happened the way they did because he wanted them that way and he saw to it that they were made that way. That's why he's to blame for them. That doesn't mean I don't also blame others for the part they played. Like Hayden Christensen for his stomach-turning performances.

Yes Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi are classics and are to many people. Very much classics.

Of course the films belong to all of us. As classic works of art they belong to the human species.

As for what crime happened... mutilation and destruction of classics. Destruction of something that should have been held in trust for the human race.

"Classics" are not choosen by personal preference. If I wanted to go around saying, "Charles Dicken's A Christmas Carol is not a classic to me." It would not make it any less a classic.
