Episode 2 Dusty version: done.
Episode 3: in the works.
^That's saying a lot! :)
Episode 2 Dusty version: done.
Episode 3: in the works.
You're quick! :)
Part1 DUSTY VERSION finished, I think. Just need a screener to be sure. I'm planning a release next week end if everything is okay.
Awesome man. Hope it turns out the way you wanted it to!
Shit, I need a reframing cause I (once again) inverted two filters on the text cards, it's no big deal.
Hopefully it really isn't a big deal. ;)
Thanks Ripplin. ;)

Yeah, I had an idea a long time ago about doing a B&W prequel too:

This silent version looks like an exciting project though:)
Episode II: Shroud of the Dark Side
“Back when we made Star Wars, we just couldn’t make Palpatine as evil as we intended. Now, thanks to the miracles of technology, it is finally possible. Finally, I’ve created the movies that I originally imagined.” -George Lucas on the 2007 Extra Extra Special HD-DVD Edition
The B&W thing is an idea I had even before I joined this forum. Just an 'it could work!' sort of thing. Imagine my surprise/happiness when I found out about TMBTM's project! :)
Any word?
A Goon in a Gaggle of 'em
I'll let you know soon. ;) Well, soon meaning Saturday, probably.
Part1 is finished. Well, I am a bit pissed about video quality but all in all it is very watchable. I think the main problem (other than the usual compression artifacts) comes from the zoom I needed to add in order to fill the 4:3 ratio without having top and bottom black bars. It creates some stairstepping from time to time:

I am waiting on Ripplin's opinion on a DVD test. I will probably try something to improve the video quality this week end, but I am not sure it will work. I guess this DVD test will most likely end as the final result.
Burned it a couple of hours ago and had a quick scan of Episode I. Looks neat-o! Any "stairstepping" can pretty much be ignored, from what I saw. It's definitely not prominent. The mono soundtrack is fun (sounds like an old gramophone or radio), but I'd listen to the regular one most of the time, I think.
I plan to watch the whole disc later on today. :)
Thanks Ripplin, I think I found a way to rid off the stairstepping effect. But It will take quite some time to achieve. So I guess you now have some time to point the other defaults of the edit to me before I release the final DVD. I will try to be not too long. I hope a release in two weeks now. I know, I already said this sort of thing several times, but it would bother me, after so much work, to release a product that could be a bit better with a little more work.
Knowing the picture would change slightly once it was zoomed in, we knew it would create some issues, like 'stairstepping,' but hopefully trying to fix it won't create its own issues. ;) Maybe you could give us a quick comparison video sometime?
Well in fact I think it was more complex than a simple zoom problem, I need to remake all the new 4:3 cropping. But now it will be a lot faster and easier for me to do it. I worked in such a wrong way I can't believe it!
The most obvious exemple is the Lucasfilm logo :
Before:
After correction (do not pay attention to the color tint):
I know this problem apparently do not shows too much in the test DVD, but once you know it's there, it is distracting.
I still hope in a two weeks release anyway.
Oh well, I guess my disc will be a collector's item. ;)
Nice to know it will go faster/easier for you. I will still watch mine and look for anything that might need a final cleanup. I hope I can do the same for Part 2. (one change I know I would make is when they are being chased when they leave Mos Eisley, I would change Han's line from "Well, you tell me!" to a much simpler and direct "You tell me!")
You don't really need to crop/ zoom the LFL logo, the background for the entire shot is black. Good effort though.

Yes I will not tuch that logo, but it really was more than a simple zoom problem. I don't want to tell you what the problem was because it's so ridiculous (and franckly I don't know how to explain it in english...) I complicated the editing process to a point you can't imagine!
Now it will be faster to work, and the part2 will benefit from it. :)

Reminds me of when I started doing transparencies for pictures. I would do this long, stupid process that was not always 100% successful. Then I started using another method and it's SO easy now! It's nice to find the easy way, but a little frustrating at the same time. ;)
I've now watched this latest 'test' version and it looks very good! I like how you changed the colors at the right times, giving different places a theme. (Tatooine yellow, Kashyyyk green, underwater blue, etc...) I could see some spots where you did some creative panning, too.
I saw five instances where the dialogue should be tweaked (I think it was just an oversight in a couple of cases, as I think they were already changed on the first edition), so I'll PM you about it.
If you can implement the changes, that would be great. I would think there's enough time to do it, anyway. I hope I can have a last look at Part 2 before the final release, too.

The thing is that it takes 2 days to render the frames just for one episode,
so for part2 I think will send to you a test divx without all the old filters (just to see if the text cards are okay), it will takes less time rendering and downloading.
Now I am rendering episode 1 (text changes could be made though) This evening I will start on reworking the episode 2 cropping (should be quick). Episode 2 should be in a rendering process this week end. Next week I am working on EP3.
Thanks for watching it Ripplin, I am waiting for your PM.

Yes, that would be great. :)
