Star Wars: Rogue One - * Non Spoiler Discussion Thread * — Page 42

I haven’t watched any reviews or anything that has been posted in this thread the last week. I’m not sure if I’m going to read any reviews after it either, I’m almost tired of how everyone is being a critic these days and not sure why I or anyone else should be bothered about others’ opinion. I hope I like it and if I do, I don’t need anyone to tell me otherwise. If I don’t it would a bit disappointing since I have more hopes for this than TFA because I more or less know what kind of experience to expect but even then.
Anyways, less than 24h to go!

And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as the Son of the Suns.

I haven’t been going out of my way to avoid spoilers, but even without any amount of vigilance I’m going into this one a lot cleaner than I did for TFA. I don’t know if that shot list that leaked for TFA early on was a blessing or a curse, because having a good idea what to expect well in advance probably allowed me to enjoy it a lot more than some of the folks who felt blindsided or cheated by how safe the filmmakers played things. In any case, this is a much different experience and I’m enjoying it immensely.

Same. Should be fun.

I never heard of a shot list but would be curious to see what it looks like after the fact. Though most of the specifics of TFA were unspoiled for me beforehand (besides some little things that I saw by accident on social media), the general direction the story took was more or less what I had predicted all along, so it didn’t really bother me either.

But, besides Rogue One’s overall premise and what some of the characters look like, I really don’t have much of an idea of what will happen. Quite exciting.

I’m sorry, now that I think of it a bit more i’m pretty sure it was call sheets, not a shot list. I don’t believe the document itself was ever made public; the guys at Making Star Wars obtained it and parceled descriptions of it out in a series of articles. It turned out to be pretty legit; they had all the major beats laid out something like nine months before the movie came out.

Saw it last night and the Coming Soon review almost completely sums up what I thought of it.

The first 15-20 minutes are generic sci-fi and “weird.” But, after that, I was thoroughly entertained. Absolutely loved it. And I also loved TFA.

That could easily describe the first section of the original before the droids meet Luke. 😉

FWIW, RT currently shows a critic rating of 80%. Other SW movies:

TFA 92%
ROTS 79%
AOTC 65%
TPM 55%
ROTJ 80%
ESB 94%
ANH 93%

Seems about right, though maybe a little too high on TFA and AOTC and definitely way too high on ROTS.

I stand corrected.

There was action in those first 20 minutes. There really isn’t much of any for RO. That’s the difference. This one doesn’t start off with a bang. Quite the opposite. The biggest weakness is the score and the fact that there’s no crawl.

Those seem to be in opposition, but I’ll trust you for now.

TBH, i’m not a big sci-fi fan. I never really considered SW to be true sci-fi. It was too human, for me.

I haven’t seen it yet. Just reminded of how Lucas has said some of his colleagues thought the first quarter of Star Wars was too Sci-Fi weird, (like THX 1138 was) and needed more human stuff to balance it out. Hence the Luke and Biggs scenes, which all got cut anyway. 😉

Well, most people haven’t seen it yet. 😉
I’d say it’s just shifting a lot between different planets and different characters, all of whom are completely unfamiliar to the audience. That’s very different from how every other Star Wars movie started, aside from ANH and TFA, I guess.

Kevin Smith has always come off to me as a thirteen-year-old boy trapped in a man’s body, and not in a good way.

You’re wrong for that lol

No I’d say he’s about right.

In a sense but he is inherently wrong because he suggested that he could throw Kevin Smith knowing damn well that’s a multiple man/machine job.

I can’t really think of a way that one could contort that sentence to seem like a compliment. If you can feel free to prove me wrong.

To be young at heart can be endearing if done right.

K2SO is the greatest droid ever created. And more human than any Jedi that lived.

Smith lost some “street cred” with me singing the praises of the prequels. It seemed unusual coming from the guy who didn’t hold back on ripping ROTJ.

Non spoiler review: great movie overall. Fans will definitely nitpick on the details but it’s a worthy addition to the series.

What’s the internal temperature of a TaunTaun? Luke warm.

So I looked at my local theatre’s showings for Rogue One. No, they’re not showing Rogue One until January. Instead they’re going to show trollz this weekend. So now I have to get to the next nearest theatre instead (a good 45 minute drive for someone without a vehicle).

Oh joy.

To be fair, Trolls was at least marginally bettet than Secret Life of Pets and way better than Storks.

My nearest theater is also about 45 minutes away, plus I can’t see it Thursday night due to final exams. Now all of a sudden, family troubles start rising dramatically, which may prevent me from seeing it until next week.

* sigh *
