Very impressed with those 3D models.
Once I tried to render the Enterprise-A using a very good model, matching the original lightning and materials. I was able to do it, but only after adding dozens of lights and the render times were insane for animation:
It looked better than the original movie models ( Star Trek V 😉 ) though.

So I guess here it will be the same. If you need some help with rendering or Blender latter on, PM 😉
It’s your show, but rendering the entire movie (with better quality than the original) will be too much for a single person.

I just started learning blender for my freelance work, so this kind of stuff sort of blows my mind. I can barely make a dinner plate, let alone a super detailed starship.

Just chiming in to say that I love your work Petrovelly but I have to agree with everyone regarding the opening Tantive scene. The pacing of how the scene unfolds in sync with the music is perfect and key to it’s effectiveness in the feelings it generates, setting the stage for the entire OT saga.

So being that it is your fan edit, I think you’ve already reached the crossroads where you need to decide ultimately what you’re trying to achieve (a graphically modernised version of the theatrical OR a modern take on the original that will take you on a slightly alternate journey) and what is more important to you (making yourself happy or the community happy with which you hope to share the edit with).

Ultimately it’s all your choice but it would help contributors a lot I think to clarify exactly what you’re aiming for and how people may help you get there. Your OP already does this but it feels like you’re already deviating from it somewhat and I can feel some light tug of war already going on with people explaining what could be better with the scene in respect to your original goals and yourself trying to explain how it’s actually what you want to do and how you see it as a good change but I think it’s at odds with what people are expecting.

Anyway, just my 2c and keep up the great work!

I know you’ve seen Revisited before, but just for handy, you should look through the changes gallery for Revisited if you haven’t:

I know your approach is more modern and radical, but there’s many changes I would say that are worth redoing for your project.

Also, I’m assuming you’re doing this project at 1080p? Just in my experience in working in 4K for my prequel regrades, it’s one hell of a hassle.

This page has the Battlefront 2017 Star Destroyer. There is a separate model that’s just the Rogue One tower somewhere else on the forum that I’m trying to find.

JEDIT:

^That is gorgeous!!!

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Hi guys… it’s been a while!

I’m still going to work on Star Wars: Remastered, I just need a short break to focus on my college art projects.
Thank you all for your support, I really appreciate it! 😃 When I’ll be ready, I’m going to modify this Destroyer model sent by Adywan, add the bridge (thanks Angel!) and implement some other changes.
And, umm, yeah. I will respect original timing in the edit 😉

C ya!

Good luck with your projects! School should always come first when it comes to these things. No one here’s gonna give you any guff for taking however long of a break you need!

Take your time, ANH is not going anywhere. The amount of work you have ahead can take years 😉

Will you be using the original 20th Century Fox and Lucasfilm logos for the beginning of the movie?

Petrovelly, do you plan on removing the outdated blaster smoke effects as well?

any updates on this project? i’m really cant wait to see this modernized version of a new hope, because disney didn’t really have a plan to update the 6 star wars movies with good coloring and cut.

As already stated, it’s about timing. This includes the crawl. The music changes with each new paragraph. Which means when Episodic title and/or more text is added, the speed of the crawl will have to be changed in order to match the music cues.

I did that when I recreated the intro crawl for an in-progress game remake of Jedi Knight 2:
https://vimeo.com/196999184
(TOP: Harmy 1977’s Star Wars. BOTTOM: my recreation)

I recreated the 1977 logos and fonts all from scratch, matching the tilt, generated a 360 starfield and such.

The thing you have to realize though is the fact that the crawl was made with analog tools. It moves. The lens distortion is uneven. There is gate weave. Meaning it’s very organic, alive if you will.
This overlay I made is a fairly good way to showcase this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PimPIk-lEsw
I made purple crawl digitally and animated it digitally. So it is static, lifeless.

When adding stuff to an existing scene, one should always try and integrate the CG as much as possible without making it stand out as a sore thumb:

I did this a while back for a project and while it’s “faster, more intense”, it’s not that good:

Hello guys! It’s been a while…

Sorry for the lack of updates. I’m gonna be completely honest with you - it’s impossible for me to finish this project. Which is actually pretty obvious for many, many reasons.

It all started out of boredom. For about a year I had fun doing some color grading or making my first steps into a 3D software. But now I feel like my passion for that kind of stuff is weaker than ever. I’m doing some 35mm photography and graphic design these days, which is great and really makes me happy.

All in all, I will continue to upload some clips from time to time. It won’t be ever finished, but “remastered” scenes should also be nice 😃

Peace!

@Petrovelly Do you plan on remastering ESB and RotJ?

The unfortunate reality of the Star Wars prequel and Disney trilogies is that they will always be around. Forever. They will never go away. It can never be undone.

I also prefer to be referred to as “TNT”, not “Freezing”.

Long have I waited… After watching The Mandalorian I decided to stick with the original, iconic Tatooine matte painting. lust a few touches to make it look more realistic 😃
