Star Wars: REBORN - The Complete Saga (* unfinished project *) — Page 5

This project looks great.

Subbing the Ewoks is a great idea. That will be interesting.

I like the idea of ditching Jango Fett altogether and just having Boba Fett, but I'm not sure about the best way to pull that off (if there is one).

Are you leaving in the closing scene of ROTS with the binary sunset?

I would like to endorse saving all your work on Jedi so sometime down the road when done with Reborn this community can get thier hands on a much needed standard fan edit of Jedi....incorporating your work from reborn and some of the great ideas from the Ranch era....just my 2 cents but the OT desperately needs a better conclusion.

I totally agree, Stossmo. I fully intend to do that.

And yes andy_k, we're keeping the binary sunset scene, but it won't be the last shot of the movie.

I didn't find these in the Coov folder here: http://kevin.alfahosting.org/test/index.php

Are these online anywhere? Thanks.

They're actually in the "uploaded covers" folder under ANHcardclassic, ESBcardclassic, and ROTJcardclassic.

Hope that helps.

Oh yeah...

Lots more on this.

Sorry I haven't kept you guys up to date. We were going to do monthly video updates on this, but decided we'd be working more on the updates than we did on the project itself.

We've been working steadily though, trying different things to see what fits where, and deciding how to tell the story in the best way possible. We've also concluded that completing the first film first (instead of the third) is important. So, we've put Jedi away for a bit and we're now focusing entirely on ANH/TPM/AOTC, otherwise known as STAR WARS.

I've recently had the privilege of meeting and speaking with Matthew Bortolin, the author of "The Dharma of Star Wars". If you haven't read his book yet, you need to. It's very insightful about some of the mysteries of the Star Wars narrative. He's a great guy who is incredibly knowledgeable about mythology and Star Wars, and he has graciously agreed to do a commentary for our DVD. So, that's very cool news!

For those of you who enjoyed the first two trailers I made, and are wondering where the trailer for Star Wars is... It was about 95% complete when the file was corrupted and I couldn't retrieve it. To date, I haven't taken time away from the project to go back and redo the whole trailer again, but don't worry, there will be one eventually... Just be patient.

I don't want to use this thread to go into specifics about every decision we're making during the editing process. I've tried that before and it's proven to be nothing more than confounding, because we end up discussing it into oblivion until every detail is second-guessed.

So, there's a lot you won't know until the DVD is in your player, but I can tell you that we're aiming for a May 2007 release for the first installment.

Thank you, kaine23, and the rest of you for your interest. If you have any questions, put 'em in the thread, and if you haven't already, check out www.myspace.com/starwarsreborn

Just to let you all know, we've received permission from Darth Editous today to use his version 3 of ANH as a base for our Star Wars edit instead of the Lucasfilm version. I'm incredibly happy about this, since his version is far superior to the official DVD's. I've always believed that we should try to build on each other's work in this community. No sense in fixing things which are already fixed.

So, thanks again, DE! We're eternally grateful. Today we've begun yanking out the scenes we already have in place and replacing them with DE's footage. Shouldn't take very long to get back to where we were.

In other news, we've had a few folks come forward and offer to do our opening crawls for us. I'm very appreciative of the help, because that was one facet of this thing I wasn't entirely confident we could pull off.

Amen to that.

Of course now that I say that I'm going to ask you something specific...

You mentioned new crawls, so that got me wondering, what are you going to do about the Episode #s? Because of how you're presenting the saga, would IV V and VI become I II and III?

No. No episode numbers at all. Just simply Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi.

I'm assuming those will be the title names? I don't like that, just keeping the original names. I think you should morph the names since your morphing the movies together. Something like: The Phantom Wars, The Clones Strike Back, and Revenge of the Jedi would be better IMO.

Uhm... but the Clones DON'T strike back... and the Jedi DON'T take Revenge... and I also think that the war in Star Wars isn't phantom...

Yeah... Sorry, yanksno... Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm afraid that would push this project into the realm of comedy. We'll stick with the originals. I think the Reborn title is enough to distinguish it from anything else.

I agree. Don't fix what isn't broken. Stick with the originals.

I just stumbled onto this thread. The ideas are fantastic and the trailers are inspiring. You've managed to rise above the seemingly endless amount of Star Wars edits with something original. I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product.

Thanks, Taolar!

For those interested, here's the text for the slightly tweaked opening crawls...

STAR WARS

It is a period of civil war.
Rebel spaceships, striking from
a hidden base, have won their
first victory against the evil
Galactic Empire.

During the battle, Rebel spies
managed to steal secret plans
to the Empire's ultimate weapon,
the DEATH STAR, an armored space
station with enough power to
destroy an entire planet.

With her starship pursued by the
Empire's sinister agents, Princess
Leia races to the barren planet of
Tatooine, custodian of the stolen
plans that can save her people and
restore freedom to the galaxy. . .
_____________________

THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK

It is a dark time for the
Rebellion. After the destruction
of its most feared battle station,
the Empire has driven the Rebels
from their hidden base and
pursued them across the
galaxy.

Evading the evil Sith Lord Darth
Vader and his dreaded fleet of
Star Destroyers, a group of freedom
fighters led by Princess Leia has
established a new secret base on the
remote ice world of Hoth.

Vader, driven mad by a need for
revenge, has dispatched thousands
of probe droids into the far reaches
of space. He will not abandon his
merciless pursuit until the young
Luke Skywalker is trapped within
his grasp. . .
___________________________

RETURN OF THE JEDI

The final battle is drawing near.
The Empire's crushing stranglehold
on the galaxy is beginning to unravel
amid constant attacks by the growing
Rebel Alliance.

Luke Skywalker, eager to join his friends
in an attempt to rescue Han Solo from
the clutches of the vile gangster Jabba
the Hutt, must first complete his Jedi
training on the planet Dagobah.

Little does Luke know, Bothan spies have
recently discovered the secret construction
site of a second DEATH STAR. One even
larger and more powerful than the first.
When completed, this ultimate weapon will
spell certain doom for those struggling to
restore freedom to the galaxy...
