Star Wars: REBORN - The Complete Saga (* unfinished project *) — Page 3

That trailer was great, it really makes justice to the epic story that Star Wars is

I'm curious as to how much focus is retained on the rebel alliance's struggle in the battle of Endor. Is it still as big as it is in episode VI or have you moved it aside to make more room for the Skywalker story? And are you going to use the cut scenes from Episode III with Mon Mothma and the birth of the Alliance?

Truly looking forward to this. Are you going to post some preview clips as you progress?

Thanks, SweHanzon. I'm looking forward to your project as well!

Okay, here's the deal... The Rebel briefing is staying in 100%. The Rebel Alliance assault on the Death Star and subsequent space battle will most likely be retained in its entirety as it's top-class filmmaking and IMO, is still to this day, one of the best sequences in any Star Wars movie. For me, the Executor colliding with the Death Star signifies the downfall of the Empire as much as Vader throwing Palpatine over the railing signifies the destruction of the Sith.

The Rebels' attack on the Endor bunker, however, is somewhat different. In short, we're going to go through every shot with a fine-toothed comb and everything objectionable, or worse - cute - will be eliminated.

And earlier in the film, instead of being captured by the Ewoks and almost eaten for dinner, the Rebels will land on Endor and rendezvous with the Ewoks as part of the Rebel plan to capture the bunker. And of course, the Ewoks will be expecting them as honored guests helping to free their planet.

As far as the ROTS deleted scenes... There's something about these scenes I like. I think the actress they got to play Mon Mothma was fantastic. And it's an interesting backstory which provides even more connections to the OT. But, I think I also have issues with some of the acting. Mainly Jimmy Smits.

We're gonna take a look at it and see where they'd fit, if they'd fit. There's a possibility that with a few snips and a change of music we may be able to pull a phoenix out of the ashes.

In any case, we would incorporate them into ESB if anything, not ROTJ, as ROTJ only uses the 2nd half of ROTS.

And yes, we'll undoubtedly be posting preview clips. I've talked to TJ and we're mulling over the idea of maybe doing monthly video webdocs, similar to what the official site was doing with the prequels, and post them on YouTube and our myspace page.

We'll see.

Unfortunately being a full-time student and working a part-time job doesn't allow for as much Star Wars as it used to, so that project is on an indefinite hiatus as far as I go. I think we all bit off more than we could chew with the Ranch; this project seems to be much more managable.

This is a shame CC- I wasn't aware of this. Hopefully after SOTDS is released, some other adventurous person with some spare time will want to continue the series. As for myself, after realizing how much effort and time has to go into redoing a movie like this, there's no way I'll be able to do all three prequels. THAT would be biting off more than I can chew. Later I'll get into more details about my personal situation.

But after SOTDS (which will be out this year), it'd be great if someone else could pick it up. It's a great character building experience, there are times when you want to put your fist through the monitor... but it's all worth it in the end.

As for the topic at hand, I think it's interesting how the Ewoks are being dealt with. How did you figure out their spoken language?

Yes, in the end Starkiller Ranch proved too big a project to tackle, especially for a newcomer like myself. The Ranch isn't dead, it's just...resting. I'm sure it will rise again, either when I finally have the time and resources or when another brave soul is willing to commit himself to it. With projects like this one and Adywan's on the way, there's plenty to look forward to in the immediate future. Who knows, one of these other projects may supplant the need for The Ranch. In any event, the Ranch thread is full of in-depth discussion about editing the saga, so it remains a valuble resource of ideas for any similar endeavours.

What are our methods in regards to preparing audio. are you processing to remove ambiance from dialogue? I'm also planning on rebuilding a lot of the soundtrack from scratch for edits i'm working on but haven't had a whole lot of experience yet.

If you guys are planning on a webdoc type release then I'd love to see some time devoted to this side of things.

Johnny Ringo, I'm not sure if this answers your question, but we use Hypercube Transcoder to convert the AC3 files into six mono wavs that we import into Sony Vegas. In a situation where we want to change the music for a scene, we delete the other five channels and only keep the center channel. But, most of the time, there's still a trace of music in that one channel, so if the new music doesn't cover it up, or throws it off in any way, we go in and try to manually remove all sound that is not dialogue. It's not always perfect, but will often pass pretty well. In many cases, we have to completely replace specific sound effects and other ambient noise.

For the trailer, we used this technique alot.

I'll keep this subject in mind for one of the webdocs. Thanks for your interest.

so your doing it the tedious way...I wondered about this but didn't really mention it in my question. Surely there are enough of us to overpower the security at skywalker sound?

Thanks for the replies, I guess i can speak for us all when i saw...

Can't wait to see [more of] your efforts in action.

Do you have any suggestions for a better/less tedious way to do it? Short of kidnapping Ben Burtt?

The trailer was going so well up until Hayden opened his mouth In fact, every line in the trailer from the prequels just sounds plain bad when compared with the stuff taken from the OT. Which is a shame, because the rest of the trailer is fucking ace.

trailer looked good guys, but then (and I'm not being detrimental) anyone can make a good looking trailer. Whilst I'm sceptical about how well this will turn out, I must say that shot of ROTJ Vader with ROTS Obi-Wan reflected in his eyes ("you were the chosen one") nearly made me cream my pants!

No.. I'm happy to got the 'kidnap Ben Burtt' option. Anyone know where he lives? - I guess tedious is the way to go...at least for now. Are you guys rebuilding the audio in 6 chanels or pretty much stereo? I'm not an audiophile, just wondering. Btw I forgot to commend how well you did with the Audio.

A trailer has only 1 purpose. To make people want to see the film and damn the expense.

The reborn trailer definitely delivers.

The episode 1 trailer/s only showed the very best of what it had to offer.

Sweet!!! I am so going to look forward to this one!

This does look another amazing Star Wars project, I am sometimes amazed at the talent we have on this site, I really cant wait for some of these projects that are going on at the moment on this site to be finished..

Can we get a direct link to the trailer?

(I can't access myspace pages right now.)

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

There is a project that is going on right now over at TF.N's forums that is exactly like this. The copy cat edition from TF.N is no where near as complex as this project, but it still pisses me off that they are coming over here stilling ideas and acting like they thought them up all by their self.

Here is the link to the projects page on TF.N:

I can understand your disgust with that, but let them have their crappy version when we know where the real goods are.

Your edit sounds ten thousand times better than theirs anyway... yeah it sucks that they are "copying" your idea, but your execution of the idea will blow anything they have to offer out of the water.

PS: Loved the Empire trailer

Thank you for the heads-up, Marvolo. Good lookin' out!

I'm honestly not too concerned about it. They may or may not be stealing ideas from us. If they are, more power to 'em. I don't own the copyright on Star Wars or The Godfather. And if our ideas inspire them to take the initiative and create something of their own, something that better suits their tastes than what we can create, then rock on.

But, not to worry, I've observed that over the years, the tf.n forums have produced a great deal of lengthy discussion and debate, but not a lot of tangible, concrete product.

Furthermore, after reading their description, it's clear that we're attacking the story from a totally different angle than they are. Our ideas on structure, as well as taste level, couldn't be more in contrast from each other. Quite frankly, IMO, it's no competition. But, I wish them all the best on their venture and hope they succeed in accomplishing what they're setting out to do.

Thanks, everyone, for your comments on the ESB trailer. I'm glad you like it.

Work on our project is progressing steadily. I've recently acquired a considerably larger hard drive which can accomodate what I need to work on all six films at once. So, we'll be working on all three episodes of the Reborn Trilogy at the same time now, as opposed to just ROTJ.

We'll have more updates for you soon.

Impressive. Most impressive.

It's hard to tell if the other guys are stealing ideas from here and impossible to prove anyway. I've noticed other ppl have made edits similar to ideas of my own but there's nothing i can do about it, even if it did bother me.

Infodroid, Do you have a straightforward method for stripping out the separate audio channels? I have a simple setup but it's pretty lengthy...

Great work! I think I like that one better than the RotJ trailer!

Not that this matters in the grand scheme of things, but my only issue with the trailer was that there seemed to be an excessive amount of the "white noise" buildup to the next section of music, in particular right before "He will join us or die," and Luke chopping off Vader's head.

The one on TF.n sounds much simpler. Mostly cut and paste.

I too am highly intrigued by this edit. While I haven't seen Godfather II (being meaning to), the whole possibilty sounds interesting. I am kind o curious as to whether certain SE pieces will be used. Namely the Battle of Yavin, Hayden's head, etc. The Empire trailer conirmed the new emperor it appears. I'm one of those extreme SE haters. Though I've ound them more tolerable in fanedit form. Something about the unofficialness of it.

Speaking of the trailers, they're highly impressive. The editing, and a lot of the scene choices work really well. Especially Ben's revelation, and the "You were the chosen one". Though I'm not sure that scene needs any exposition.

The use of new music sounds interesting. I assume great care will be made in keeping the sources not too obvious.

I'm definately keeping track of this one.
