If that trailor is just a sampling of the skill involved, we are SO going to be in for a treat come 2007. Good luck with this guys, I'm really excited about this edit.

A great trailer. I would have finished it at the close up of ROTJ Vader with Obi-Wan voice over "You were the chosen one!" But that's just me.

Very clever guys. Good work.

Thanks for all the kind words, Guys. Really. It motivates us to go forward.

We continue to be hard at work on this. As of now, we have a rough cut of ROTJ. Of course, it's extremely rough, in fact, it's more of a "placeholder cut". But, we do have one MAJOR sequence finished and that is the Mace/Palpatine duel.

Almost every part of this duel has been altered to be faster-paced, and to eliminate all the goofy facial expressions and bizarre cgi flips. We've taken out the entire soundtrack and thrown it away, then built a new one from the ground up. Totally new music, new saber hums and clashes. Everything from the window shattering, to the wind, to Anakin's speeder, to Mace and Palp's little grunts have been individually replaced. And what a difference. It feels like a real duel now. You really feel a sense of danger and urgency, which was somehow absent from Lucas' cut.

Of course, after all that, I feel like I never want to watch that scene again for the rest of my life...haha....but I think I'll feel different after a couple weeks of working on something else.

So, aside from a few minor adjustments of the audio levels, that entire sequence is good to go. And I must say, we're very pleased. I think you may be too.

Now, we move onto the Emperor's landing at the Death Star...

...To be continued...

What music have you used for the Mace/Palpatine music

I may post a small clip of the duel in a week or so once I go back and adjust the audio levels and polish it up a bit. Not to much, just a little bit.

John Williams - War of the Worlds

It's big. It's dark. And it blends seamlessly.

That's the name of the movie.

The track's name is "The Ferry Scene", but that was combined with a few other musical elements indigenous to Star Wars.

Ah, I know the track well. This should be interesting.

The trailer is VERY slick and professional. Nice job!

I'm very insterested in the way you're pairing only one prequel with only one episode from the OT. I see how ROTS and ROTJ go well together, but I'm wondering how ESB and AOTC will blend. And then ANH with TPM is really bending my mind. How do you mix such a great movie with such a piece of crap? Oh, that will be a challenge (but I'm sure you'll do a great job).

Without giving away any secrets, do you plan to strictly stick to this one-to-one pairing?

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

Author
Time
Oh, it will certainly be a challenge...

But the good news is, we've divided ROTS in half. So, it's going to be only the second half of ROTS that will be paired with ROTJ, starting with Anakin alone in the Jedi Council chambers during "Padme's Ruminations".

Then, the first half, which is Anakin's slow seduction to the Dark Side will be intercut with ESB.

The whole of TPM will be reduced to a seven-minute prologue with narration, leaving AOTC to be intercut with ANH.

And believe it or not, there are some parallels there. We'll be focusing heavily on the mother storyline and the start of the Clone Wars. And maybe the Kamino stuff, if it works out. We're just hoping that if we choose the right scenes and combine them in the right way, the perfection of ANH will somehow elevate those AOTC scenes. But it's gonna be tricky, no doubt about it. Haha.... That's why we started with Jedi!

Actually we are pairing the second half of ROTS with ROTJ, first half of ROTS with ESB and AOTC with ANH. TPM will be reduced to a 6-8 minute prologue to ANH. Of course this is all subject to change. We may not use alot of AOTC so we will then have to blend part of TPM with ANH, hard to say at this point. We usually rough something out, then cut it in Vegas until we like what we see. The final cut may not even resemble what we started with.

I'm in the middle of a construction project at home which will be completed in about a week. Once that is done expect more timely updates and things to really start rolling.

If you leave Boba Fett in from ESB and ROTJ you should at least show him as a kid in AOTC.
Author
Time
I'm sure we will, because it's yet another father/son connection. It's just not clear to what extent he or Jango will play a part yet. I can say that the entire "asteroid chase" from AOTC will most likely be gone.

Is it possible to get rid of young Boba and just have Jango be Boba?

That's an interesting idea, THX...

Tell me what you'd do.

I like that too, though I think the only way to explain it would be to not explain it and hope it comes off. it seems reasonable that after 23 years or so the suit looks a little different.....

I know it isn't strictly related to your edit, and could be in any AotC edit, but I just never liked the Jango/Boba storyline. I just thought it would be cooler if Boba was still the original guy which the clones were taken from, rather than one of the clones. After all, we never see his face in the OT, so he could just be old under the helmet. Like stossmo said, no explanation is necessary - just refer to him as Boba Fett in the AotC scenes and it's self-explanatory. It would provide a way to streamline the scenes with Fett in AotC. From memory, young Boba is usually in his own shot, I just haven't watched it for a while so I couldn't picture if it would cut okay.

Well, it's a cool option to consider when we come around to editing ESB.

It's good to see you guys back and working on Star Wars. This project already seem to be more on track than Starkiller Ranch ever was. Unfortunately being a full-time student and working a part-time job doesn't allow for as much Star Wars as it used to, so that project is on an indefinite hiatus as far as I go. I think we all bit off more than we could chew with the Ranch; this project seems to be much more managable. In Star Wars: Reborn's format you can keep the parts of the prequels worth keeping and simply do-away with the rest. So no week-long debates over how the Nemoidians should be dubbed or what to do with Jar-Jar and Boss Nass.

You mentioned a prologue, is this to be at all similar to the type of prologue we were discussing for the Ranch?

And in condensing TPM to 7 minutes, do the characters of Qui-Gon and Darth Maul now cease to exist?

I have many more questions but I'm looking forward to see how SWR develops.

PS. Awesome trailer. The best moment by far was "You were the Chosen One!" reflected in Vader's eyes. Great work.

Hi, Zach. Not at all. It will only involve scenes from Episode I.

No, they don't cease to exist. They're every bit as there as they ever were, but we'll only be focusing on the parts of the film that matter to the later chapters of the story.

Thanks, Man. I know compliments are rare coming from you, so I'll take 'em when I can get 'em. haha...

Sorry to hear the Ranch is on indefinite hiatus.
