Yeah, that scene hasn't been finalized yet. That's one of the first things we're going to tackle when we start up again. So, if you have any more suggestions for tracks, now's the time to get 'em in.

Oh, and Anti-Matter, I'd love to reply to your PM, but you have yours turned off.

as you are using adywans ANHR as a base for the Star Wars Reborn, are you going to wait till adywan has revisited ESB and ROTJ before you complete your respective versions?

I was also thinking about how SOTDS was recolouring alot of AOTC. Are you going to do similar things?

Still can't wait! Any chance of a tiny screenshot or clip?.....

(pretty please?)

That depends on when Ady releases ESB. If we're ready to do it and his version is no where near a release date, then we'd probably have to figure something else out, but we love what Ady's doing to Empire and we'd prefer to use his version. But we might end up doing a version using another source first...and then a version with Ady's later.

There will be recoloring, yes. That's the final step.

A clip? All right, we'll see what we can do for ya. ;)

Here's a clip. A couple minutes of the speeder chase scene.

This is very much a WORK IN PROGRESS!!!

Final audio levels have not been set. This clip is in stereo, the final mix will be 5.1 of course.

yay! thanks guys! that was amazing! its such an improvement! the ROTJ music really makes a difference, reminds me of a star wars movie or something... :P

the sound effects are really nice, as are how the musical changes fitting with the scene changes. to be honest i prefer the flow of them to the palpatine/windu duel that you posted before.

can't wait to see the finished thing. you've made my day!:)

Hmm... I kind of miss sound effects here. It's so quiet for a city. There's quite a few moments where a ship passes but we don't hear it.
But as ben_danger said, the music syncs up great with the film :-)

Feel free to point out anything in detail. Where the instance takes place and what ship for example. At this point it's very easy to add more effects. I've watched it so much in the last few months I'm sure there are things I don't notice anymore.

I would also encourage you to listen to the original again. There wasn't as many sound effects as I had originally thought.

I think it's mostly that in parts, the ambient traffic sounds are so quiet as to be entirely drowned out by the music — I can't even tell if there is any constant ambience there. Adding it in (or raising its volume if it's already there) will make it feel a lot less empty and quiet. It needn't be too loud, just loud enough that it can be heard under the music. As you said, it's a WIP and levels aren't finalised. I feel strongly that this change should be made.

But for the most part, the clip is fantastic.

I agree. I just haven't got to that point yet. :) I laid the music in five minutes before I posted the clip, it was just to give everyone an idea of what we are doing and I welcome opinions good or bad.

There are multiple ambience tracks that run constantly. I'm not big on doing commentary tracks, but I MIGHT do one for that scene. There's so much little stuff that had to be done I'd hate to forget it all in a few years . :)

having the music from ROTJ in that scene sounded great to me, but i agree with what has been said in that there needs to be more ambient sounds as it seems too empty to me. i think the music could be a little too loud at the beginning of that clip in relation to the dialogue too as i could hardly hear Anakins first line. i can really sympathise with you with having to create a track from scratch. not an easy task i know. all the best

ID, TJ, I've basically decided on a design for the covers and it will incorporate the opening crawl, so if there's any change from the text you posted in this thread months ago could you possibly let me know? ben_danger is working on poster art for the covers and we're going for a very "retro", '70s feel. I'd also like to include a few screenshots from the movies on the back cover so let me know if there are any particular shots you'd like me to use — it's hard to know what parts of the movies you're going to cut so I'll probably wind up just using stuff from the trailer.

Thanks for the comments, Guys. And for the sympathy, Adywan. LOL Like we said, it's a work in progress...and not an easy challenge.

Yeah, stick to what's in the trailer, Roccon, and it'll be great.

The idea of changing the crawls didn't really go over too well when we proposed it a while ago, so we've decided since then to just leave the originals as is. The prequel crawls won't be involved at all.

Great to hear you're working on some cover art for us! Sounds cool!

That's a shame, I rather liked the altered versions, with the sole exception of the line "One even larger and more powerful than the first." Does this mean the Dagobah scene in ROTJ is now after the Tatooine story rather than at the start of the film, as the new crawl implied?

I say if you want to do it, do it. ;) It's your edit and you should do it exactly the way you want to. This is already one of the more radical edits of the Star Wars films anyway, and that's one of the biggest reasons I look forward to watching it. If a few people don't like it, tough oatmeal! Heh.

It's with great regret that I inform everyone that the Reborn project is officially DEAD.

After a three hour phone conversation with ID tonight we have decided that to finish this project up to the standards we expect is just not possible for us.

No one really has any idea how many hours we have poured into Reborn in the last year and have very little to show for it. We wanted to do more than just a “cut and paste” job but it kept coming back to that is really all we could accomplish.

The more we looked at the six films the more we realized that Jedi and Sith really are the only two that go together well. We were attempting to “shoe horn” AOTC into ANH with very little success.

It is time for us to move on. We either had to finish Reborn or put it to rest once and for all. After going through everything for the past two weeks we realized putting it to rest was our only option.

If there's anyone that would like to “pick up” the project I would be willing to discuss what we have done and/or tried to do.

I know the clip I posted this weekend wasn't well received , but it is available for anyone that wants it without the music mixed in.

To the few fans we still had. :) I do apologize for not completing this and hope someone picks up the project at some point so we can all see it finished.

This is a real shame, I was so looking forward to the project. Hopefully someone else will pick it up. Unfortunately I don't have the skills necessary to pull it off, and even if I did I can't afford the software or an appropriate computer.

If it is truly a dead project, I think it would be wonderful if you could post a file — even just a text file or something similarly basic — detailing the edits you had made or were planning to make. Not necessarily the minor details of every flipped shot, colour grade or sound effect, but perhaps some of the music you were hoping to use and dialogue you had cut and at least where different prequel scenes were planned to fit in with the OT.

Perhaps if and when Adywan completes his Revisited series, a project like this will become easier, with less worrying about making the trilogies fit together without jarring and more effort on the artistic editing that makes this project so fascinating.

im sorry to hear that guys, but it takes alot of guts to say enough is enough. i agree with RR, if you could possibly post up scene for scene notes, and materials that would be awesome.

Would you consider possibly carrying this on with an expanded team?

Or would the project be more achievable in a smaller episodic cliffhanger series format?

The discussioins you have provided have been interesting and exciting, and the trailers alone are fantastic, and achieve to an extent what a full film could have.:)

this makes me sad guys.  i was really looking forward to this project.  but i understand your frustrations, and desire to make this the best project that you can.  I truly hope that someday someone picks this up.  You guys did fine work.    i will go weep in the corner now :(

This is a sad day.  This was the edit I was looking forward to.  This was one of those cool big ideas that only come along once in a long while.  And the trailers were the best ever made for a fan edit.

I hope the lack of enthusiastic responses didn't play too much into your decisions to stop.  I hope everyone realizes that there are a lot of lurkers on this board that don't speak up even when they see something exceptionally cool.  I enjoyed the clip that was posted, and should have spoke up about it.  It feels so much more like a real star wars film with that soundtrack.

I think I speak for all of us when I say that if after you take a break for a month or a year you decide you want to give it another go, you'll have our support.

Thanks, Taolar and Ady and everyone else!

You know, better than anyone, these things take an awful lot of work.  And when your efforts are met with a general sense of apathy...it's tough to want to try and continue.  Makes you question why you're doing it in the first place.

We all have to accept that we're living in a post-Adywan world now.  Meaning that it's extremely hard anymore to impress anyone with a Star Wars edit.  Ady was the 9/11 of fanediting.  I mean that in a good way, Ady.  ;)  There was the world of fanediting on this board before Revisited, and then the world after.  And rightfully so!

The other thing to consider is that we're editing on what will soon be a dead format.  Blu-Ray is growing fast and I'd predict in 5 years, DVD's will be on the way out.  We may as well be editing on VHS.

That's fine when you're doing a weekend project like Indiana Jones...but when you're pouring hundreds and hundreds of hours into something...only for it to be obsolete sooner than later...it makes you rethink whether or not it's worth it.  And more importantly, we're just ready to move on to something else other than Star Wars for a change.

We tried it, we gave it everything we had...and it didn't work.  We appreciate all the support.  We really do.  It kept us going.  But, it's just time to let it go.

Like I said on fanedited, at least we got three good trailers out of it, if nothing else.

The other thing I want to say, is that I think it's time for me to leave originaltrilogy and make my new home for any future projects over at fanedited.  It gets tiresome posting the same stuff on two different boards and most of the people on here are there (or can be there) too.  So, I'm migrating.  I find it ironic that this fanediting community has sprung out of a site dedicated to protecting the original SW films from change.  But, for me, OT has always been a board full of great, (mostly) mature people who were always friendly and willing to help.  Unfortunately, I just feel it's time to move on.  I'll still lurk from time to time...but probably won't be contributing here much anymore.

Take care, All!  It was a fun ride here at OT.com.  I wish you all the best.  See you on FE.
