Finally finished the Aftermath series, and I must say in the end I liked it quite a bit, with Empire’s End easily being the best of the three.
I also finished the Phasma audiobook, which was pretty solid, and am just starting Bloodline, which I love so far.
I must say, they’ve done a pretty good job so far painting the broad strokes of the political transition from ROTJ to TFA thus far, especially considering as far as I know there’s basically a 20 year gap where no story has yet taken place.
I am really curious how much of this stuff is mapped out by the story group and how much is just determined by each individual writer. I’m especially curious, in this regard, about some of the stuff about Palpatine that is revealed in the Aftermath books. If we are to believe there is some larger force at work here behind these revelations, I have some speculations to make about potential developments in the future films
Like I said, this all depends on whether the filmmakers/story group have a say in this kind of stuff, otherwise forget it, but I feel like I have a fairly plausible prediction – so Palpatine was obsessed with the unknown regions of the galaxy, and the regions beyond the galaxy. He said there was an extreme dark force presence out there calling to him or something. Seems to me like it could very well be that Snoke is either an entity from outside the galaxy or an ancient Sith who left the galaxy and has now come back, and when the Imperial remnants regrouped in the unknown regions they made contact with him and that’s when he joined (and formed?) the First Order.
I could be late to the party with this or have already been disproven by something I haven’t read yet, but those were my thoughts anyway, when I read Empire’s End.
