How better to hype up an extraneous product than by ascribing it uniqueness it doesn’t have?

Anyone else pick up Thrawn yesterday? I’m about a hundred pages in. Zahn’s style paired with the more sober tone of the new canon is working better than I expected. I reread the old trilogy last year after the new book was announced, and those books are a lot wackier than people seem to remember. This new one strikes a good balance.

^The wackiness was one of the things I liked about it. ¯\ _(ツ)_/¯

I look forward to getting Thrawn in paperback whenever that happens.

Phasma novel coming in September

I have a feeling that I’m going to be saying Finn is fucked three times before I’m halfway done reading this one.

Since I’ve never heard of this author, I decided to look up what she’s written before. Turns out she writes YA novels about steampunk Vampires and also erotica under an alias. These are actual descriptions from Amazon of her works

Caught in Atlanta’s Snowjam 2014, self-confessed geek Tara is rear-ended by the hottest guy she’s ever met. Ryon is a beer brewer and restauranteur who fits the bill of what Tara and her friends call a “lumberfox”: sartorial lumbersexual style, cultivated facial hair, tattoos, and specialized tastes. When he invites Tara to spend the snowstorm in his nearby condo, she takes a gamble and slogs through the Hothlike blizzard, where she learns that a man who takes that much time with his facial hair knows exactly what to do with his mouth.

When nurse Tish Everett forced open the pesky but lovely locket she found at an estate sale, she had no idea she was answering the call of Criminy Stain, from the far off land of Sang. He’d cast a spell for her, but when she’s transported right to him, she’s not so sure she’s ready to be under the spell of another man. (It didn’t go so well last time with controlling, abusive, domineering Jeff.) If only Criminy wasn’t so deliciously rakish….

I’m less interested now.

It seems like people are really embracing the new characters. In fact, the big question people ask me now about Star Wars is, “Are Finn and Poe gay lovers?” And really how the f*ck would I know? My second husband left me for a man, so my gaydar isn’t exactly what you’d call Death Star level quality. ----Carrie Fisher

I personally don’t really care about an author’s previous work, I usually just wait until the book comes out and see if people are saying it’s good.

This makes me want to read it more

I like to read books, give people my opinion, and then change it several months later after watching a YouTube review of it.

Sounds like Phasma’s getting a Marvel miniseries as well.

Probably safe to say her TLJ role will be quite a bit bigger than her TFA one.

Hopefully the Luke book is longer than Weapon of A Jedi.

EDIT:

Has Claudia said anything about a Lost Stars sequel recently?

Hard to tell at this point but it seems like the Luke book will be a legit novel or at least a YA one.

EDIT:

No idea. Still have to read that.

Meanwhile, Battlefront II has a story campaign set after ROTJ from an Imperial perspective (and a companion book). Should be pretty cool.

Cannot unsee Luke’s janky face or Leia’s tiny hands.

If they’re going to try to promote female writers, then get good ones. i.e. Claudia Gray. She keeps hitting the homeruns with Star Wars novels. Best writer in the new Disney Canon so far in my opinion and she is a women so fuck yeah! But this makes me sad to see them recruit someone with such a poor record.

Random question but you never know.

I’m after the hardback UK edition of Dark Disciple published by Century (ISBN 9781780893747) in as close to mint as possible.

Anyone got it, read it, and might want to sell me to complete my collection of UK Century new canon hardbacks?

I just finished reading Aftermath. It’s not the best, or even particularly good overall, but I didn’t mind it and I think “frag” is a far better substitute for “fuck” than “kriff” ever was.

Not enough people read the EU.

The Aftermath books get progressively better as they go on. The first one is eh, but if you’ve already slogged through it I recommend sticking with the series because it only goes uphill from there. Empire’s End was more or less on par with Bloodline and Catalyst.

Poe Dameron #14 is in large part a sort of thinly-veiled and really quite moving eulogy for Carrie Fisher. If a comic hit me this hard, I’m going to be a wreck when TLJ comes out.
