Are you creating a version for BD release? Noticed it was in the title.
What are you doing with it, compressing it less or something, upscaling it, including a lossless audio track?

Also, any news on the release of the blu's?
Still waiting on the person helping me with the menu's, all is done otherwise, just needing those files, but I did find out I am going to have to drop the bitrate a little, if I leave them at 16000 to 16500, they will go over the BD25 size limit, but I can re encode pretty fast.

All the above, after watching my test files, I can honestly say that the V3 DVD's can't touch these, these will sit nicely on the shelf next to the Saga Blu-ray Set when it is released.
What exactly is done differently with them? What equipment did you use to upscale them? Are they compressed using AVCHD?
Any chance of keeping the bitrate as high as possible and designing them for dual layer BD's?
They are all upscaled using Avisynth to 720p, and the main audio will be h_h's 5.1 in DTS-HD MA 5.1, but his DD 5.1 will also be on there, ALL audio on the V3 DVD's will be on the Blu with 1 exception, you will have the option to listen to the DD file or the LPCM file, and I may, and I said may, put the Wonderful Imperial Edition Score by ABC on the ESB BD25.
Edit - I just read your second question, no probably not, I really do not think that the video will improve much by this, all I wanted to do is have it better than the V3, and that is what I accomplished, the main thing to this release is that I can have ALL audio that I have been working on in this release.
OH, and I am not making NO AVCHD's, why limit yourself to a stinkin SL or DL DVD? it is time to move on and step it up to BD.

Has he provided you with a higher quality LPCM track to use for the DTSMA track or something? I didn't realize he had that mix in anything but DD.
Just in case my menu partner falls through, does ANYONE here have any experience at all in BD menu creation?
Also, would anyone be interested in making up a Blu-ray cover set for this set, I have ideas but do not have the experience to make these myself, I wish I did.
Thanks

Yes.
I'm glad everyone got a good laugh out of my most stupid typo ever :)
I know I did =D

I can just imagine how extensive and difficult it would be to make even simple BD menu's. Whoever is helping you with these is probably just trying to do a good job but because of that it is taking a while? Is that what is going on?

I really don't know what is going on now, it has been a while since an update, I REALLY hope this guy comes through though, I have already seen samples, and they look fucking great!, He really knows hhis shit!, but I just need to have a fall back just in case, the thing is though, it is just not waiting for the Menu files only, once I have them, then I have to be able to figure out this software and replace dummy files with my real ones and author it out, I have the software up and running, but it is confusing as hell, but like anything when learning, once I get it once, I should be good to go, but I am all done on my end.
*edit - GREAT news! I just heard from my BD menu partner, no problem at all, just has some real life stuff going on, so he is doing just fine, have some stuff to start testing now.
Great news dark_jedi! Your Blu-rays are the ones I am most excited about. From the samples that I have seen they are going to look amazing and well worth the wait.;)
Hell, if this Blu Trilogy works out, we already have our first NON Star Wars project in mind, Sheena on BD!
Could someone help me get a copy of this set?, my email is below if anyone wants to help, thanks.
STILL MISSING SCOTLAND, OH FLOWER OF SCOTLAND DAH DAHHH DAH DAHHHHHHHHH DA.

They are at Myspleen now, and well seeded, why not just get them that way? do you need an invite?
ok myspleen is working now. could someone upload these to rapidshare? Torrents don't seem to work on my internet connection
"I will laugh my ass off a hundred years from now when the only version of STARWARS people remember are harmys despecialized editions. They will project it on a 20' by 40' screen with perfect quality."

Ah pretty cool. Im glad to hear the good news.

Satanika kindly uploaded the 5.1 pcm to the newsgroups, enabling the use of lossless audio on the Bluray set. The AC3 tracks already sound fantastic, but for folks with real high fidelity sound systems it will be even better. Even if you can't do the full thing with HDMI or multichannel analogue, the core DTS 1509 over S/PDIF should sound great too.
As far as the picture quality goes, how much of an improvement you'll see over the dvd versions depends largely on how good your player is at de-interlacing and scaling. Compared to lesser upconversion, the Blu set would be a significant advance; but something like the Silicon Optix HQV or ABT DVDO processing found in high end players and external sets might well be able to exceed it.
I've managed to get all three movies downloaded by now, and am seeding them back like crazy, but haven't watched them yet because I'm still looking for the best way to burn double layers dvd's. I have flipped through them a bit on the computer, and even with the built in scaling being fairly rubbishy, the improvement over the GOUT is quite significant. Definitely looking forward to being able finally see these!

This is precisely why I have already said more than 1 time that this set is NOT for everyone, it is not only about the video, it is also about having all the LPCM audio that will not fit on DVD, this whole thing started out as an idea for myself only, but then I decided that I might share this with whomever is interested, also what turned me on to this is reading what jdobbs posts at doom9, but personally I do not care about the hardware upscale vs software upscale debate, the video is done and I am very happy with it, way more so than the V3 DVD, and to top that off with ALL the various forms of audio files, it just can't be any better, my opinion only ofcourse.
Man, I can't get over how much better the scene in ESB with the Wampa is than the SE versions. Not seeing him, only hearing his yells, and then the brief close-up shot of his fur as he starts to walk in just before SABER'D! So much more intense this way, I'm so glad I have these.
Thanks again D_J

What codec are you using to compress the video on the BD, are you sticking with MPEG2 or going with VC-1 or AVC or something?
Any chance of compressing the unupscaled video using whichever codec you're planning to use for the upscaled version to maximize bitrate and including the lossless audi track with it as well? Just thought I'd give it a shot, my BD player has a Marvel Qdeo processor so for me it'd be better to let the hardware handle the upscaling.
Definitely. Even aside from obvious things like Han shooting first or CGI inserts, various aspects of the editing and overall storytelling were rendered at the peak of excellence in their original forms. Why anyone ever thought they needed to be altered is beyond me. Sometimes having things left to the imagination is much more effective . . .
It's even more encouraging to see this opinion shared by those discovering them for the first time. :)
