I'm going to download the clip tonight and will offer up my thoughts on it tomorrow. Looking forward to watching it and comparing to the other clips you have released.

Well just don't expect anything real drastic, it is just very minor tweaks I keep making, but I hope this is it.

Just downloading the last of the clip now DJ.  I'll try watching tonight, but I might only be able to get back to you tomorrow.

Watched the clip tonight and to my admittedly amateur eye it looked very, very good. I think you're probably at the point(or very close to it) where there's not really a lot else that can be done. The source material only allows for so much improvement and as it stands this is leaps and bounds above the retail GOUT. This will be the best representation of the originals we'll probably ever get unless Lucas eventually relents and puts out a proper release.

Ended up watching the new clip tonight too, along with the other two previous clips, all on my HDTV this time.  I'm a little tired, and I'll probably watch these again tomorrow when I'm more awake, but as it stands now here's my 2 cents:

I'm sure I'm in the minority when I say I actually like the first 720p version (post 1829).  It simply astounds me that such clarity can come from the GOUT, and of the three samples thus far, it's the one that most looks like a blu-ray image to my mind.  Although people's faces may be a bit too smooth (i.e., "plasticy") in this version, the backgrounds (i.e., the Blockade Runner's hallways, the sky during the droid sale on the moisture farm) are the best looking here, as there's no "blocking" (everything is even and smooth).

If some grain is to be left, however, then the most recent (third) sample is the best (post 1942).  As far as skin texture is concerned, this version is the one to beat, and it manages to keep the film grain without sacrificing the backgrounds (hallways, sky) too much.  Overall, it also looks "natural" for lack of a better word, and is pretty much how I remember Star Wars looking.  It may not have quite the same knock-your-socks-off effect of the original clip, but it may well be the most faithful of the three versions.

Truth be told, they all look really good DJ, with my vote going to sample 1 (from post 1829) or 3 (from post 1942).  At the end of the day, I'd be ecstatic to be able to watch the OOT at either of these levels of quality.

Here's some screen caps of each version for comparison (although, as others have said, it's not the same when not in motion).  Left column is the original clip from post 1829, middle column is the second clip from post 1884, and right column is the most recent clip from post 1942.

Hmm... just flipping through those now, I think maybe that original clip is too soft after all.  Just noticed some detail being blurred on the underside of the star destroyer in pic #1, the Rebel's collar being blurred in pic #6, and Leia looking... well, "pastel-ly"... in pic #10.

Maybe that last version is the best after all.  Thoughts?

I like the middle image best. It has a slight edge in detail and the color looks more natural verses the other two. The first and third images color is too saturated IMO.

I definitely like the last version best.

Also, corelian77, there were 6 samples already and the one you refer to as the 1st was actually the 4th. Just FYI :-)

^ Really?  I thought DJ had only released three 720p samples to date.  At any rate, I've edited my post to include post #s for clarity's sake.

IMO, the first clip(#1829) is indeed way too smooth when watching in motion. I think clips 1884 and 1942 are close enough that they're virtually indistinguishable and either of them would be a better choice than the first one.

Thanks for the side by side screens corellian77, neat to see them that way, I am pretty certain that the last sample is now my final(#1942) I think it is a pretty good trade off of the issues I have been having, we did find some errors in the subs and have since been fixed, I should be able to do a final render of this starting tonight, and PERFECT timing to, I just got back from Gamestop with my Dragon Age 2 Signature Edition.

Cool DJ.  I think that last sample is definitely the best.  I'm looking forward to sitting down and being able to watch this whole trilogy at some point.

Yea, I don't know how I am going to do that yet, 20+ GB's per film is alot to upload.

d_j, instead of uploading, would you consider blank blu-ray donations at some point?

I'm going to say the second clip is the best based on those screenshots.

The shots of the third appear over-brightened and more detail is lost from it (just check any light source in an image).

Still, I definitely like the return of the grain after the first try.
