I use BD-RB ALL the time for my BD's and stuff so I know the x264 codec is the shit! really GREAT results.

Darn- If I'd known you could burn these to blu-ray I would have sent you some BD blanks too. ;-)

BD versions would be a nice option to have for those who don't like to compromise their quality preferences.  I know for me anyways, seeing a quality audio/video LD transfer on an actual BD and not AVCHD would be quite cool.

Just saying.....

Thanks dj, for all that you've done and are doing now.

Quick question: I mentioned in an earlier post that I grew up watching a taped broadcast of Star Wars.  The broadcast in question was taped from First Choice Super Channel (now TMN) in 1982.  Would the sound mix from that broadcast be the 1977 theatrical stereo one?

Most likely the 35mm Dolby Stereo mix.

We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.

I've been considering typing up a comprehensive list of all differences between the various audio tracks.  Just have to get around to actually doing it.

The first televised version of ANH in Sweden did seem to have the mono mix, and in that Luke's line "what good will it do us if he gets himself killed? Come on!"sounds different to all other versions I've seen.

In the cell bay shootout Chewie's rifle sounds like the other blasters, except for the last shot we see him shoot, where it's got a stunblast-esque sound to it.

And the blast that nearly hits Leia as she's jumping into the garbage chute is more powerful.

This would be more appreciated than you could possibly imagine! I love the idea of having all these audio options, but without knowing all the differences it's hard to decide which one I'd prefer or which one to go to for what options. I'm sure it would be quite a bit of work to list all the differences, but it really would be invaluable. The audio info to each film would also make for a good insert to each DVD package.

DJ, I don't know if you posted this earlier, but which mpeg encoder are you using?

OK, I have another "Bonus" for you guys that sent packs of Verbatim DL blanks, for the few of you that did, since it has been taking a long time to get this done, and not 1 of you ever bitched about it, I am including another SW Trilogy, if this set goes right(which so far it has) you will have this in your package when it arrives to you along with the 97 SE Trilogy V2,ESB Imperial Edition & the SW Trilogy V3, now this new bonus set has been mildly cleaned up, but I am not going to tinker with the color, to me this it what makes this set unique, it will be anamorphic, and the audio will be 2.0 surround @ 256kbps(I guess my LD player got 1 more go round before it gets retired for good) I hope you guys like it, this new Bonus set might be done as soon as this weekend, and just as soon as I get the updated subs from msycamore for Jedi I can finally get that baby done to.

Wait; out of curiosity, what exactly is the Bonus set? Is it a laserdisc transfer?

Yes it is.

Is it a transfer of the Japanese Special Collection laserdisc or the DVNR-less laserdisc that Darth Mallwalker discovered?

EDIT: And also, is it too late to send in Verbatim DVD-R DLs?

Does anyone know how I can take a static menu that was made a while back @ 720x540(4:3) for DVDLab Pro and resize it to 960x540(16:9) without making it look all F'd up?

Author

This may be very thing you wanted to avoid, but:

I've used IFOedit to set the 16:9 flags on the menu after the fact. That way, the playback device stretches it to fill the screen, and all the button overlays and everything stays in place. Of course, the image appears stretched, and the hardware stretching is uneven and artifacty (in my experience).

It is a menu image from a very old set I did with a former member here, I say former because I have not seen or heard from him in a long time, and now that it is re done I want to use the same images that he made up, but just resizing it makes it look terrible, so I am assuming there is some doctoring up that needs to be done.

Maybe add black bars in photoshop to each image to fill in the added space to make the correct aspect ratio?

Then at least the menu wouldn't appear all stretched out on screen...I think...

I love everybody. Lets all smoke some reefer and chill. Hug and kisses for everybody.

Or add some stylish starwarsy bars, instead of the black bars. The question is, as these are static menus, do you need to scale as video or just as picture?

As picture, I really want to use these menu pics to, and so far this is the only thing holding me back from finishing up this 2nd "Bonus" Set.

Are you re-authoring or do you just want to re-jig the existing DVD files?

If you're re-authoring, grabbing the menu image(s) should be doable from the existing DVD. Repurposing that image into something that would be pleasing in 16:9 without stretching it would require some photoshop extensions or trickery or merely cropping top/bottom. The low resolution of the source image would require some legerdemain to avoid the image looking f-ed up, as you say.

I'd be happy to take a stab at it for you.

Thanks but it is only the image in bitmap, I need to make it 960x540 from 720x540 somehow with out making it look like crap LOL, and I kind of want to do it myself because this "bonus" set is kind of a surprise to my testers and if they say this set looks and sounds OK maybe I will upload this set to all as well.

DJ, You might want to try using the Liquid Rescale plugin for The GIMP.  http://liquidrescale.wikidot.com/en:examples

I also know you want to do this yourself, but I'll be glad to do it for you.  I've got GIMP and LqR installed.  It'll take me about 10 seconds to resize the image and send it back to you.
