!!!!! And before anyone asks, YES the DD 5.1 mix for Empire and Jedi are the latest versions hairy_hen did, I guess we are dubbing them the "Purist" version.

Yeah, I'm pretty excited about these.

The tweaked version of Yoda looked a little yellow for me, but the rest of the tweaked ones are great!

No one can objectively tell you how much difference you will see.  I imagine that you will see very little difference between those two bitrates, assuming that all other settings are the same.

It also depends on the size of your screen, how close you sit to the screen*, and whether your display is calibrated or not.

*I notice more compression artifacts when viewing something full-screen on my 17" laptop display than on my 20" CRT or my roommate's 80" HD projector screen, and the main reason is because I sit about a foot away from my laptop's display, which means the screen fills more of my field of vision than either of the other two displays I mentioned.

Basically, if you have a small screen or a big one that you sit far away from, and/or it is calibrated or too dark, you won't notice a difference.  If the display is too bright, and/or you're watching on a large screen that fills much of your field of vision, you might.

Then again, I get taught in school how to notice these things, so I'd venture a guess that you wouldn't notice a difference between the two no matter what.

Besides, what's the bitrate of the retail GOUT discs?

"2.0 Surround" would be a more accurate description than plain old "Stereo".

Is there a difference between them?

+1, to me the close-up of Luke on Bespin looked a bit too colourful as well

Can't say I see much point in the ESB tweak tbh, the V3 looks perfect as it is :-)

+1. but a little more lightness doesn't hurt.

I vote for the tweaks, i think it adds that little more detail.

Well I have to admit as of right now I am leaning towards leaving ESB "as is" I really have to crank saturation and such to really even notice any real difference, plus I believe Dr M stated in zombies thread on color that PC monitors will show video a little dark anyways, so on our HDTV's it might be just fine, I will play around with it a little more today but I am thinking this one is good enough the way it is.

You know, that's a good point, on a television it will already look brighter, so it may be best to just leave it alone.

And as for the colors, they seem quite strong already in the unchanged V3, and now that I look more closely, Luke's face does seem a bit yellowish in the tweaked screen shot, so leaving the color saturation as is might be good, too.

Taking this into consideration, I'd say leave the V3 as is, no brightness or color changes.

Can we get a comparison shot using these same settings showing Han and Leia close up talking on the Millennium Falcon? Would be good to see the flesh tones in a naturally brighter scene to make things clearer.

The Star Wars trilogy. There can be only one.

OK I messed with ESB enough, this just is not going to get much better, and if I do make something look just a tiny bit better, maybe a different scene looks way worse, who knows, so ESB is done and already rendered and encoded for both V3  & MBE, now onto ROTJ, I can look at the colors while msycamore tweaks his subs.

Sorry I am not getting anymore screens of this(ESB) now, it is done and it is time to move on LOL.

That's fine, The Empire Strikes Back is looking great! :) So, you just left it alone as in the untouched V3 screen shots?

1 thing to note about Jedi also is that it will get re rendered anyways because msycamore is redoing the subs, so we might want to find a good tweak if we can.

I think the tweaks look too yellow.  The originals seem more natural to me.  You can just leave Jedi alone as well, in my opinion.

Agreed, also the Death Star looks a little too purple on the tweaked.

LOL guys this is just a starting point, but I am still messin with it, and if nothing comes up good, well I guess the re render will be for the subs only, no biggie.

and it is not this tweak vs V3 pick which one now, it is give me some things to try while waiting for the sub script.

Also for the record, I agree with you guys, this starting point sux.

Give us a few screenshots with stars in them.  The biggest problem with the ROTJ GOUT is that the stars look blue, which is kind of annoying.  If that can be rectified without screwing up the rest of the movie, that would be amazing.

I seriously doubt there will be a setting to fix that, because EVERY time I look at the beginning I see them damn blue stars no matter what I throw at it.

Hell, if we find a setting that makes the colors pop a little, unfortunately it will probably make the stars better to, and not in a good way.

+1

It's only in the Endor ones that it looks yellow to me.  Other than that, both the tweaked one and the v3 looked fine.
