Hey DJ, if you're still interested I think we may still be able to do something. SUP files with PGS contents definitely work on Blu Ray because I've made test discs already. However, they might not work with all authoring software--that might be the problem. I'm just using the free stuff: tsmuxer and multiavchd, and I haven't done any menu interactions at all, but I can definitely say it works with Blu Ray, using the remote's "Subtitle" button to switch around.

I also have "regular" subs that are traditional mostly-below-the-frame Arial subs (non-English subs have to be like this). Also if you don't like the fonts/placement I've used, you can plug in different values and generate your own SUP files. The workflow is pretty simple, and I designed it to be a framework anyone can use. Basically you plug in an SRT file and out pops a nicely rendered 720p subtitle.

My project really has its own priorities and they might not mesh 100% with yours. I'm not terribly intersted in fidelity to existing home video subs for example, and I make changes whenever it met some other goal, some as having the text onscreen slightly longer, etc. Let me know if you're interested in any part of this, I'm flexible and would not be offended if you wanted my process but not my files, etc.

I still want those screencaps tho ;) But I'll wait.

Not a problem and completely understandable. I wouldn't leave you hanging by not letting you know I received them or not conveying what my thoughts were, but I understand you being more picky this time around and I respect that.

So do the gout DVD's in other Countries have Subs? if so, can anyone get these from their DVD's, and are they accurate?

French, Italian, German, Spanish?

The PAL GOUT has subs in those languages, and they are available on the newsgroups. However they are in graphical format so you need to OCR them, and OCR is very hit-or-miss, requiring manual correction unless you want the occasionally incomprehensible subtitle. Also some of the GOUT subtitles are simply wrong.

Well that is to bad, I was hoping I could just drop them in,. because I obviously cannot go over Foreign subs, don't know any other language, hell I do not even have time to even read over the English subs, I still have a lot of video work to do, including bad frame fixes, and still have a lot of audio work that needs to be finished, so now I just don't know.

There might be some utility that would upscale DVD subs to BD subs just by scaling the graphics, so you would not have to OCR and re-render. I've never seen anything like that before though. And you'd lose sharpness, etc. I think you have to use text files at some point in the process.

It's very time consuming to do optical character recognition and manual correction.

The best thing, I guess, would be if people could contribute with each language's subs that they want to be included. Of course, those subs will be put on the BD as is, which means if they aren't corrected they'll be on the BD just as bad as they are.

If sending us subs, make sure they're in srt-format and synched to the NTSC GOUT. (It also works if they're synched to Harmy's despecialized editions)

They'd have to be SRT for us to be able to convert them to BDN+XML format, which the guy making the menu for the BD said he will need.

Just wanted to say a huge thank you to Dark Jedi and everyone involved with the V3 trilogy and the unfinished Project Blu for the enormous amount of effort, dedication and skill that you've put into these projects.

I've been following this forum for a while and although I can't really offer to help finish Project Blu (very little experience in video/audio editing or film preservation I'm afraid), I really appreciate what you're doing to preserve the star wars theatrical trilogy. Such a shame that it has fallen to dedicated fans to do this (although I wouldn't be too surprised if a long way down the line, after the 3D cinema and 3D blu-ray re-releases of IV V and VI, the theatrical versions are eventually restored and released properly on dvd/blu-ray - maybe in 2017 for the 40th anniversary of star wars. Though by that time we will probably have had to sit through Empire Strikes Back 4D with a CGI Yoda poking his walking stick into the audience and vents on the backs of cinema seats so the audience can smell Vader's breath.)

That being said your V3 trilogy is easily one of the best star wars theatrical trilogy preservations I've seen, and the screenshots from Project Blu look astonishing. Very much looking forward to it and happy to help in any way I can.

Thank you for the comments and I truly hope you enjoy this Set when it is done, the color is astonishing lol, I still can't believe that this much color could be brought back out, it really is a site to see, and when the time comes, we will definitely need BD blanks for testing and such, because these are still far from being as cheap as blank DVD's.

Well Guys im on standby for anyway i can help. I check the forum on a daily basis and i think im hopefully in DJ good graces for trying to get him a PCM rip of my Laserdiscs.

I just put a rig together very similar to DJ and im hoping to let lose the power ha ha. I don't have any video projects lined up right now. Im still burned out after my complete bugs bunny project that sucker was 4 BD's big.

I too am able to offer blu-rays to you guys, just say the word, I have amazon prime and can get them to you in two days.

Im amazed with the project, and hope i can help :-)

Okay, I can do SRT. For each foreign language, I have both "forced" and "full" variants. Forced is designed to work with the matching foreign dub (just crawl text and alien subs), and full is for the whole movie, to accompany the English audio. For English, I have standard and SDH. PM me with which versions you want and they're so small I can just e-mail them to you if you give me an address.

These are not the verbatim GOUT subs. Most of my changes involved making subs appear onscreen longer, but you may also see other tweaks and corrections here and there, particularly some formatting differences. Also, when I say they accompany the English audio, I mean the original surround mix, not the mono mix or later revisions.

If you can get the a graphic format of the subtitles (ifo/sup, idx/sub, etc.), you can upscale them with BDSup2Sub to HD sizes.

The program allows you to resize with various filter methods (from bilinear & bicubic to Lanczos3 & Mitchell), retime, change frame rates (good if you're using a PAL source) and more.

Output formats include BD SUP. This way you don't have to mess with OCR.

@Doctor M: Thanks for the tip! I don't think we'll need to do it that way after all though.

It seems I had saved the character matrix file from when I captured the swedish subs from the PAL version of each film, so I tried using it again to capture more languages and it worked fine and I could easily correct some small errors and synch it using the timing of my synched swedish subs.

So now it seems the BDs will also include danish, finnish and norwegian subs.

You also have Brazilian Portuguese!

Seriously, though--if you take a list of the most widely-spoken languages on earth, and filter based on latin alphabet, Portuguese is #3, after English and Spanish. It's a good one to include!
