Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic - THE MOVIE - Finally finished

Hi everyone!

About two years ago, I was having a conversations with my friend who's a casual Star Wars fan, and I asked him if he'd played KOTOR - which he had not. The Knights of the Old Republic story is, as I'm sure a lot of you know, a great one - some would say it rivals parts of the Prequel Trilogy. Anyway, those who DO know about "the twist" know how epic the game's story truly becomes - and my friend is just simply the type not to spend 40+ hours on a game. And I'm sure some of you fall into that category too.

What I decided to do was take the game, and re-imagine it - as a movie - a trilogy of movies, actually (the story actually works out that way) - but this was not simply a task of editing all the 'cutscenes' together. I found a cheat that freed the in-game camera (only had the xbox version) so I was able to set up shots, and use other tactics to get the 'shots' I needed - anyway, long story short -

The first film (Episode I) is finished... for those not familiar with KOTOR, it takes place 4000 years before the rise of the Empire. The characters in the game were all voiced by professional voice actors, great voice work, by the way, and as well I took the main character and provided his voice myself (have experience in voice over work) - anyway, the first film sets it all up. There are Mandalorians... battling Wookies... a great Pod Race, a speeder bike battle, a rancor encounter, bounty hunters, lightsaber fights, plus a riveting storyline that actually has depth - and will lead to one of the most impressive twists in gaming (and quite possibly Star Wars lore) if you stay unspoiled!

Anyway, check out my 'youtube' channel for clips so you can get an idea of what I've done. I guess the term for using a videogame to make a movie is called "Machinima", but this is more or less an adaption of Knights of the Old Republic, so it could give non-gamer Star Wars fans a chance to enjoy another Star Wars adventure. I used wipes, muaisc from all sorts of sources, some little tricks here and there, color correction, etc, etc to create as close to a Star Wars movie vibe as possible. The first episode clocks in at 1 hour, 58 minutes!

Someone suggested I post news of the films here, especially once a torrent becomes available... I do enjoy this site and have enjoyed many of the prequel fan edits here - hopefully you guys will find ejoyment out of Knights of the Old Republic via this medium if you haven't played the game already! Take care for now!

I'm a huge KOTOR fan without broadband access, so if there's a way to obtain a DVD copy I would appreciate that. I like what I've seen so far.

I am surprised at how good this looks! I wasn't really sure about making a move from a video game, but this actually looks quite impressive. Hopefully there will be a torrent for this soon. Great job!

This looks awesome! I can't wait to see this on DVD. It should go quite nicely with my other Star Wars game DVDs.

I own KotOR, but never finished it. I plan to someday, as well as KotOR II (which my purchase of will be dependent on my completion of I).

This kind of thing is a great idea to share the game with non-gamers. It really is a great piece of Star Wars lore.

One question: The "main character", his lips won't be moving in the game, will they?

I can't wait to see this.
KotOR has been called the best recent Star Wars movie rivaling the prequels.
I do not enjoy RPGs so I couldn't get into it even though I very much wanted to.

Cheers on an awesome project.

Computer Gaming World:
Knights is wisely set a full 4,000 years before Anakin Skywalker began stinking up the galaxy's movie screens, thus freeing the developers from the shackles of the movies' over-familiar story line and characters. Ironically, by doing so, BioWare has created a story closer in spirit to the original Star Wars film than any game actually featuring Luke, Chewie, and the gang.

Edit: If I recall correctly there are 2 different endings to this game. How are you dealing with that?

Hi all-

I'm very glad you guys are happy I've worked on this - it makes the hard work certainly worth it. Here's the overall scope of this project - I started it about two years ago (a little less than that) - mainly to hone my editing skills with a vast amount of footage and also, it'd be just plain fun to do a Star Wars movie - without throwing on robes and choreographing lightsaber battles in a forest. I also wanted my close friends to experience the story - certainly a situation that would not happen without these movies.

I was gungho at first, finished the first hour and a half - then work forced me to move, I had a girlfriend, and my regular job was an editing job so the last thing I wanted to stare at after a long hard day of editing was another timeline. So I kinda halted. The response at TFN was great - and I discovered, after like 8 months away, the interest (and both forum threads) were still there. I'm making another move for work (to Austin, TX, can't wait!) so I decided I'd finish the damn thing before the move - otherwise I fear I'd never get to it - well, I do finish everything I start, so I feared it'd be another year delay. Lots thought I was gone, they just didnt know my work habit. Suddenly I'm back - thanks to their continued interest - and my realization that I needed to finish what I started, and three weeks later, I'm burning my umpteenth version of a full DVD, complete with animated menus, special features (well, a trailer and an eppy 2 teaser) and I'm just proud overall.

So I'm glad you guys over here are excited too, I respect this site and love how people are doing fan edits. About 4 years ago I once had ambitions of compositiing myself into every Anakin shot of Episode 1 and making Anakin an older, bad seed drug dealer kinda undiscovered jedi (I was a young looking 23 - ha!) - so I love some of the ideas being displayed here.

Anyway - some tidbits for those non-KOTOR fans - the first episode features Mandalorians, A Pod Race, The Rancor, Alien gang wars, a fiesty teen twilek, Swoop Bike battle in ruins, Wookies fighting Wookies, a hot chick with a double bladed lightsaber, bounty hunters, finally we see "Dantooine, they're on Dantooine", three cantinas/clubs, cameo appearances by KOTOR2 (the game, not my second movie) characters, space battles, lightsaber battles, and of course, that Star Wars feel setting up a truly epic trilogy that only gets BETTER with parts 2 and 3!

Hopefully you guys will enjoy it... more soon!

Dude, no update in this thread and BAM episode one is being torrent. Very awesome.
Not to be 'that guy' but is there a chance we'll get to see an Xvid release before we commit to 4.5gb?
