Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (Video Game) — Page 3

I will say that the only thing that stood out to me was the galaxy map. That part definitely takes me back to KOTOR. Wonder if there’s an order that has to be followed or the player will freely choose what order of planets to go to. I’m going to assume the latter.

If this game has an ounce of that homely feeling of walking around your ship… Talking to your companions and what not, I’d definitely welcome that. Besides KOTOR, Mass Effect also had that element.

It just still lingering in my mind that it will be using too many cutscenes as a crutch to propel the story to make it seem “cinematic” and therefore feel like a hollow RPG.

It’s not a RPG.

Han: Hey Lando! You kept your promise, right? Not a scratch?
Lando: Well, what’s left of her isn’t scratched. All the scratched parts got knocked off along the way.
Han (exasperated): Knocked off?!

I felt like I read somewhere that you will be able to talk to your crew on your ship in between missions.

If they’re going for a full Uncharted copy then it will certainly have non-action / walking and talking bits like the Nepal village from UC2 and the later scenes it inspired in the series.

It’s a third person action adventure with some light RPG elements. Your ship is the central hub of the game where you can talk to your crew between missions as well as also pick where you want to go next. You’re free to fly back to any planet you’ve visited previously.

Just watched the extended demo, and it’s still difficult for me to fully be on-board. At the same time, I’m not totally opposed to it. I was slightly relived to see dialogue… choices. The days of lines and lines of dialogue choice I suppose are of the past. However, it’s a bit of a let down to see the dialogue options whittled down to two, not to mention seem to have a similar issue that Fallout 4. Essentially, it looks like you’re merely choosing a tone of the conversation rather than moving the conversation. How varied can we make this main protagonist? Probably not much. I’m not specifically saying we need light/darkside alternate routes, although the freedom to do so would make replayability more appealing. Being able to make decisions that will trigger ripples into the story, where certain plot points open up, and some close off, is ideal. Adds more to the thrill of the gaming experience.

However, it looks more like a straight shot story. I guess the reality is that yeah, it’s a light RPG. You’re simply following Cal’s journey rather than immersing yourself into a journey. And that stings a bit because it’s a similar issue I had with the Mass Effect series. Granted, that game franchise has way more RPG flexibility compared to this game, but ultimately, the main protagonist is predefined. That’s probably the symptom of having the character voiced. Basically what I’m saying is that it’s hard for me to get invested in these kind of games. I miss the feeling of the story and choices being reflective of yourself, and seeing how the characters reacted to that, either with praise or disdain.

Huh, I had no idea Chris Avellone was part of this project. I also have no experience with any of the games he’s helped work on past Fallout: New Vegas. But, I do find it a bit reliving knowing he’s had some part in Jedi: Fallen Order. While I don’t think this particular title will have the depth KOTOR II had, where Chris was heavily involved with, and with arguably the best video game written characters in a Star Wars story, at least some of his writing creativity will shine through. I find that answer vague and unconvincing. Why don’t you knock it off with them negative waves?
Why don’t you dig how beautiful it is out here? And say something righteous and hopeful for a change?

I still cannot decide if this will be a good game to buy or not. Even with us now having gameplaying scenes to watch. I tihnk will wait for detailed reviews to come out after November.

^ Good call - waiting a couple of weeks or so for reviewers to really get into the game; How varied is it? Is it too repetitive? Is there a lot of replay value? Any bugs or errors? As the difficulty / Force abilities increase… does the control system hold up? Is it fun to play overall? Etc, etc.

(such things are an important to an old 8-bit gamer with poor eyesight and reflexes 😉)

It may also be available a little cheaper too?

Waiting for price drops for a video game is a general good rule of thumb. Waited two years until I got Battlefront II for like under $5 I think.

I always, always, always wait many months to buy games now - after the DLC has all come out and the game has been patched. One of the benefits of age is that time moves more quickly - if I was still 16 it would probably be tough to wait.

That’s basically the way to buy anything new.

I feel like my enjoyment of the game is going to be very much down to how lightsaber combat feels - it’s such a crucial thing and very easy to get wrong…

So… Any members playing this? Thoughts?

It’s fantastic. I would say the best Star Wars game since Jedi Outcast.

After watching a handful of reviews, it definitely looks like my initial concerns weren’t warranted. Specifically how the demos made it appear to be a very linear cutscene driven game. But, it looks likely to be far from the truth, which gladdens me.

I do have one question out of curiosity, do you ever get other companions that can accompany you along your travels? Or is it only that Droid? Do those featured characters on the ship basically just stay on the ship or do they do other tasks depending where in the story you’re in?

Can anyone recommend some good video reviews of this? I can only find the 4-minute IGN-style ones that are not in-depth at all…

In terms of adventuring out with you I think it’ll always just be BD. The rest of the crew stays with the ship.

I’m always fond of Easy Allies. It’s the same team that used to do the GameTrailers reviews. Real professional productions that give you a break down of everything you need to know without giving away big story spoilers.

Based on the reviews this game looks like a definite purchase for me. But, given all the glitches I’ve seen, I think I’ll wait a bit for some patches and a price drop.

I have it on PC and it’s been a fantastic experience. Haven’t run into any major bugs or glitches. The big one that I’ve heard of was people going out of there way to break into an area they haven’t unlocked yet and then finding they’ve broken the game. I don’t have much sympathy for them but the devs have said they’re working on a fix.
