People are willing to drop hundreds of dollars on bootlegs and those s#### DVDs from 2006. Those DVDs that Lucas himself felt compelled to release. Millions of people have downloaded the Despecialized Edition. Popular American icons have publicly let their distaste of the SE known. Disney may not care for those versions of those films, but they care about money. You will never convince me that only a fringe want the OOT. The demand is there.

Agreed.

It would be more accurate to say many people would prefer the original versions but they simply haven’t been released and most (but not all!) of those people saw that there’s a blu-ray, said “close enough,” and worried about the more important things in life.

This is true. Most of my family and friends are aware of the changes, and bothered, but are also not obsessive enough to make themselves heard.

I decided to add a signature

So you’re not even pretending not to be a troll anymore.

I don’t know if that’s better or worse than the pretense.

There’s also a magazine coming out thats labeled itself as the “guide to the 1977 classic”

Now they’re really rubbing it in.

There’s a comic for the special edition version of the film and it’s labeled as the special edition and in the Amazon description it says and I paraphrase “a graphic novel of the special edition version of Star Wars”. Then there’s that magazine labeled as a guide to the 1977 classic. Not 1997 classic. Not 2004 classic. Not 2011 classic. Make of this what you will. I think it’s a good sign.

“Revisit the original space opera in a comic book adaptation of the special edition of Star Wars: Episode IV- A New Hope, the ultimate realization of George Lucas’ creative vision!”

They already rereleased the original 77 adaptation recently in a couple different forms. This doesn’t mean anything either way.

Was that done under Disney or Lucas rule?

Both, I believe. The original version was collected in a Dark Horse omnibus that was put out shortly before the Disney deal, as well as a Marvel omnibus that came out shortly after. Disney also did another version with different colors and the original Jabba and Emperor replaced, essentially creating an SE of the original comic (as opposed to a comic of the SE, which is what the 1997 one is).

Is that original comic still available?

Author

Yes, it’s in the collection called Star Wars: the Original Marvel Years, Vol. 1.

It’s a step in the right direction, to be sure. What I should’ve said was that they’re rubbing it in if we still don’t see the actual movie itself restored by the end of the year.

They have been trying to pass off the special editions as the originals for a long time now.

Well, in the credits of each film in the OT, they do have the label Special Edition, to give LucasFilm some itty bitty credit

That could be, I don’t know. Haven’t watched the special editions in a long time. I was just referring to the fact that if they make mention of the “1977 original” they are almost certainly still talking about the SEs.

I’m pretty sure the credits thing is just something they haven’t bothered to change since 1997.

I think on the 2004 and 2011 discs it actually says copyright 1997 haha
