"Star Wars Fans Petition For George Lucas To Come Back And Direct Episode IX" Discussion

Author
Time

This Petition was started about two weeks ago by a Brazilian fan who would like to see George Lucas return for the final episode of the Sequel Trilogy. As of now (January 10, 2016) it has over 16,000 supporters.

He states that he doesn’t have a problem with Colin Trevorrow (Jurassic World) as a director, he just feels that he’s not the right person too direct a Star Wars movie.

Thoughts?

One day we will have properly restored versions of the Original Unaltered Trilogy (OUT); or 1977, 1980, 1983 Theatrical released versions (Like 4K77,4K80 and 4K83); including Prequels. So that future generations can enjoy these historic films that changed cinema forever.

I have no idea who is or is not the right person to direct Star Wars or pretty much anything else. But it sure as hell ain’t George Lucas.

I wouldn’t mind if he returned, but if he does, I would want him more as a Co-Writer and/or Producer.

That’s a lot of idiots.

Lucas is done with Star Wars, not only would Disney not hire him, but to come back to Star Wars after (I imagine) working so hard to emotionally deal with leaving would be crazy!

He’d also be trying to work with a story he doesn’t even approve of! So IMO it’s just really wishful thinking…

Where’s the petition to petition that petition since I’m pretty sure that’s how effective petitions are at petitioning for change.

Yep, I do agree with you on that. I kind feel sad for Mr. Lucas.

After what Disney did to his animated film Strange Magic last year, I doubt he would want to direct anything for them at the moment.

Disney probably isn’t too thrilled with him given the comments he’s made lately either.

I’m sure he’s crying in his four billion one dollar bills.

I also think that it probably won’t happen do too the recent events that took place these past few years between him and Disney.

He’d never do it in a million years, for the simple reason that his treatments were thrown out. He’s not going to want to direct someone else’s story.

I didn’t mean it quite like that, but I do get your point.

Haha true but money doesn’t buy happiness. No matter how much money Lucas made from the Disney deal it wouldn’t have softened the blow of selling your precious universe to someone else…

Anyway, that 4B he gave (mostly) to charity. I don’t think he’s very concerned with making money anymore!

All true. I just don’t feel sorry for him.

I would be interested in seeing him do one of the spin offs.
Particularly if he could do it under an assumed name.
You could announce his directing of one of them but his was actually directing a different one, just to see if audiences could sense his presence so to speak.
It would be an experience to see how he would direct a Star Wars film he had no script input in.

But that’s just not going to happen is it?

Unfortunately, he’s a terrible director. He can’t direct people, he can only direct computers.

He’s a story idea guy.

Yep, that’s why I would mind him back as a writer/producer.

That’s why I think it would be interesting to do a taste test on his directorial skills.

Tell people they are watching a Lucas film when they aren’t and then tell them they aren’t when they are (like Red Tails).

That could work, but it doesn’t seem like it will ever happen at the moment. It will go great if he could learn from his Directing mistakes and have help from other Directors.

Sounds like something a computer would say.

This would be good, if he didn’t write it and was listening to what other creative people around him have to say
