Well, excuse me for being only 13!
I am of the opinion that many SE changes are good, other than the screw-ups on the DVD, Jabba, and Jedi Rocks

No Cassidy, I think SW fans under the age of 30 are alright, being one myself. It those who are under 20 that really get on my nerves.

I'm too think that under 30 are still acceptable, but most of those under 20 are disillusioned by Lucas as to what Star Wars is and should have been.

People need to start taking responsibility for their actions and emotions. If you've become disillusioned with a movie franchise you did it to yourself. No one made you feel that way but you.

It's easy to sit on the internet and be cynical little whiners all day. Do something with your life. God, it's only a movie.

Cassidy, why worry so much wha other people think and say, cause it's only a movie.

I'm sorry Cassidy if my brief statment as to what I have observed, and believe, provoked you so badly as to call folks with my point of view "whiny little bitches" and that you now "despise" me.

It has very little to do with ferris "thinking so little of himself" and everything to do with about eleven posts up where you replied to directly to one of his posts with the "I am tired of the Lucas did this to me crowd" comment. I think it is fair enough for ferris, regardless of his personal opinion of himself, to have seen your "whiny little bitches" comment as a reaction to his comments, since it was right after his comment that you began to express your annoyance with the current state of opinions regarding Lucas and SW.

Anyway, I agree with you Cassidy, the "Lucas raped my childhood" crowd need to get over it. Though I have never actually heard anybody say that except from anti-"Lucas raped my childhood" people, though I suppose somebody must have said it at one point.

It is kind of foolish to say it is just a movie though, at the risk of sounding really nerdy I must say SW is so much more than just a movie. Perhaps you are too old and it was something you enjoyed in your teen years rather than submersed yourself in during your youth. How many movies do you sign a petition to have released on DVD and regularly visit a message board about? For myself, only one. There is no single movie I have seen as many times as SW. I haven't seen it in years actually. Because it is not just a movie. If it was I would watch it and put it back on the shelf until I wanted to watch it again. It isn't. I haven't seen any of the OT for years, and yet they are still as present in my mind as ever, because they had such an impact on my youth. My buddy and I ran around whacking colored wooden poles together. We had an R2 unit made out of a putty bucket and paper. It was never just a movie to me, it was an actual world that I spend a good deal of my informative years living in. This is not a bad thing, before somebody pipes up and says I have wasted my life on a stupid movie I will remind them that all kids live in some fantasy world, and the SW universe isn't the only one I lived it, but it was one of my favorite ones. If it was just a movie, I could care less about it.

There are many with similar cases to my own. Plenty of us to whom SW is more than just a movie. It is annoying that the films I grew up with no longer exist-- err... I mean... exist only as a special feature on a DVD in pretty lame quality. It is annoying that when I mention SW Jar Jar Binks and Natalie Portman's bad acting pop into people minds.

Cassidy, you have mentioned before how you hate that your child has to grow up in a world where Star Wars fandom is so divided. I am afraid that is unavoidable. After all, there are two different sets a films, it is only natural that you will have fans of Star Wars, Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi, and that you will have fans of Star Wars I, II, III, IV, V, and VI. I personally don't care much for the later one, and I am certainly not a fan of them. Goes to reason that I am not going to have a whole lot in common with somebody who grew up on those films. Though they may have as much importance to them as the old ones do to me. We are not part of the same fandom, we love two entire different sets of films. Kind of the difference between a kid who grew up with Star Trek and a kid who grew up with ST:TNG or DS9 or Voyager. They are just not the same thing. The only difference is that in our case we were told we could never see ours again, because it no longer existed.

Cassidy, SW fandom has always been divided, there just wasn't any internet back in '83. If there were an internet back in '83, ROTJ would have gotten ripped to shreds. Ewoks? Darth Vaders a pussy? Luke/Leia are siblings? Kenobi POV?

I know so many people who are just SW'77 fans and that is it, but other then Anchorhead, I have yet to meet one on the internet, cause they just love the first film and don't really care about anything that happened after 1977. Then you have a huge amount of SW/ESB fans who think they are the only great ones of the OT, let alone the series. Those fans can't understand how anyone can watch an inferior movie like ROTJ or the PT more than once? Then you have the OOT fans like myself, who sorta agree with the SW/ESB fans in quality, yet i am anal enough that ROTJ will always be apart of my saga cause I love the characters. Then you have the SE/PT or saga fans, who just love anything with SW, and really don't look at quality, they just enjoy it all.

Trust me Cassidy, if there were an internet back in 1980, there would be a large section of fans saying, "Darth Vader is Lukes dad, WTF? Lucas is ruining SW!" Just as they would have said in 1983, "Luke/Leia are sibling now, WTF? Lucas is ruining SW!" Just as they said in 1999, "Midiclorians? Jar Jar? Darth Vader built C3PO? WTF? Lucas is ruining SW!" And in 2005, "The PT sucked, Padme losing the will to live, Darth Vader turned for that reason of a dream? WTF? Lucas is ruining SW!"

Lucas has been changing around the story of SW since 1978 as Zombie has shown, it is up to all of us to choose when we feel he ruined it, and just watch the movies we love. But until the OOT comes out on DVD in great quality, there is gonna be bitchin on this forum.

Well said and I couldn't agree with you more. I love Star Wars full-stop.Warts,flaws and all.I love the movies, love the story,I just love it.I have props,figures...hell I even have tattoos. However people really need to stop seeing Lucas as some demonic figure looming over their childhoods with a scythe in his hand.My childhood and a large part of my life has been about SW.I am passing my love of these films onto my children and I will not pass it on with the kind of cynicism that seems so prevalent in the fan-base right now.Remember when you had that boundless enthusiasm?Remember goosebumps when the logo came up on the screen and the music kicked-in?Remember the thrill of hearing a lightsaber ignite?I am proud to say I still feel all those things well into my thirties. These are the things I intend to hold onto and not lose focus of what made me love them in the first place.I want my two boys to share the good things about the series and not all this petty crap you hear bandied about.

?

This is true, but that is my point, the internet is different, and sadly worse in some ways. When you post on the internet, nobody knows who you are, so you can say anything you want that may be out of character that you would normally say face to face. On the playground, I only talked to SW fans, and there were no trolls that would chime in every once in a while with 'ROTJ ruined the movies!"

The internet is what it is, and I take it with a grain of salt. I like it cause it has advanced the OOT to atleast get released, that without the internet, I don't know if it would have been possible. Without the internet, there would be no Superman II: Donnor Cut either. But on the flip side, you are going to get childish debates, trolls, and foolish complaints about the same things over and over, and what I do is just tune them out.

Cassidy I was 4 when I saw SW in 1977 too, so I hear ya about the different generation of fans and a different outlook then we had, but I still say the more OOT fans that are willing to not give into the SE, the better chance the OOT will be around in 10 years.

Are you equating thinking positively about Star Wars with posting positively about Star Wars? I'd want to be sure I wasn't trying to brainwash myself again into thinking the prequels are quality films. But yeah, I think you are on to something. If your ideas are good ones and positive, people will usually latch on to them.
