Idea: Star Wars - Fan Trailers

There is nothing better than a good fan trailer. I have seen many good ones, and some bad ones. I know there are tons of very talented people in these forums who are more qualified than the professionals. I would like to share you creativness through trailers. They are like fan edits, but much shorter.

Some Initial Ideas:

  • SAGA TRAILER
  • Trailers for IV,V, VI that match up with the prequel trailer( as if they were actually sequels)
  • Trailers with music unrelated to star wars
  • Spoof Trailers that make the movie seem different than it actually is

I love these ideas, and endorse them completely.  I'd especially love to see trailers for the OT in modern/PT style.  I think the RotJ teaser should directly relate to the TPM teaser ("Every Saga Has To End...").

I love making trailers.  In a lot of ways, they're actually more exhausting to make than a full fanedit because of the detail work and the fact that you have to tell a story in a very short period of time.

True but in the meantime you don't want to tell too much to the audience. I don't like trailers that shows elements of the story in chronological order for exemple.

I cannot wait to see some ideas/ finished projects.

I am really looking forward to seeing people's versions of the OT trailer to be a continuation of the prequel trailers. I agree it is hard to do so without giving away the entire stroy( ex Not showing that reveal of Vader to Luke). Everytime I try to make a trailer I end up making it to chronological.

Well, here's a little teaser trailer for Empire Strikes Back.

I made it for Adywan's Revisited, but upon review after finishing it, I realized that it functioned a lot better as a teaser for the original film.

As for editing styles, I guess I tend to put a focus on the musical aspects, usually the cuts between shots are dictated by whatever piece of music I use.

Alright, the first trailer. I cannot wait to see more.

There have been trailer contests on this site before, actually (can't lay my hands on the thread right now). Another one might be fun, if there's enough interest?

I guess the problem with making Star Wars trailers is that we're all so over-familiar with the material, so it's tricky to keep it looking fresh.

JD's RotJ trailer was a very nice example (it's on the Returning to Jedi disc - I think it won the last competition?)

I can't wait to see what some people come up with. I am in the process of thinking of what I would like to do. Anyone recommend a good program to use.

I don't know about a contest just eyt. I think it would be cool if people would just submit their work.

Yeah, that trailer is one of my favorites.

Fun Fact (if you haven't read the description, heheh): That trailer was made by the guy who did KOTOR: The Movie, which you can also find on Youtube I believe.

I would like to officially star a trailer competition.

The first contest is The Phantom Menace- All projects due by April 6th.

Let me know how interested you are in doing this.

There will be.  Give it a few days.  Putting a trailer should be a decent investment of time.

I am thinking about one but I don't want to commit yet.

what program do you plan on using. I have not found a good one myself.

Vegas and/or Womble.  It depends on how complicated I want to make it for myself.  I've done very small projects with them and they worked great for that.
