Unless somebody else besides Jackson makes a feature film in 48fps, it might just end up an interesting, but mostly forgotten experiment, just like Smell-O-Vision. Pushing the technology ahead of the story is arguably the trap Lucas fell into.

I only caught the standard frame rate showings of Peter Jackson's Hobbit movies, so can't really comment on the 48fps aspect - except to say that I recall a few negative reports at the time that it gave them a kinda dubious 'video quality' overall.

However, looks like we haven't heard the last of this higher frame rate issue yet, as James Cameron is going to be using it on his Avatar sequels too...which are bound to be as equally high profile as Jackson's movies - http://www.empireonline.com/news/story.asp?NID=42852

I recall enthusiastic descriptions of Douglas Trumbull's 60fps 'Showscan' innovation from years ago, and was somewhat interested that Cameron was initially planning this for his sequels - but it seems he's decided to only match Jackson's same frame rate after all.

Maybe Cameron will work the bugs out.

I thought he was going for 96fps? That would allow for an easy 24fps conversion.

I like 48fps only along wirth 3D. And not every movie benefit of it.

I know it's not exactly the same quality than true 48fps but the motionflow effect on my HDTV (creating fake pictures to make the motion "more smooth") is really something that I a usualy despite. But when it comes to certain movies in 3D (The Hobbit, Avatar, Prometheus) I use it cause think it makes the 3D way better looking. But the same movies in their 2D versions looks just wrong with the motionflow. And there are certain 3D movies that don't benefit of the motionflow. Like Dredd for example. I tried to look at it this way and it just felt like a cheap direct to DVD. Certain other movies need to use it at minimum effect. I can't really point what makes it work or not for me though.

IMHO there isn't anything in it that I would consider a spoiler.

I know I’ve made some very poor decisions recently.

Well, it did spoil any enthusiasm I held for the movie, that's for sure.

The red Lightsaber?

Perhaps colars are the only variation he wants in saber types, I dunno

That lightsaber could be any or all colours of the rainbow and I'd still hate it, thank you very much.

I second this post.

I have to say the trailer is the first thing that hasn't felt very OT-ish, perhaps the way it was cut and the scenes they selected, but still. I thought the voiceover was a joke at first, chuckled for that one. That droid was ridicilous, something straight from the PT. Still optimistic though, it's just a teaser.

There is just something about good old fashioned rotoscoping that makes lightsabers look more dangerous.  They look too saturated in these new films.

Almost completely agree.  PT-style soccer ball droid, ST09 camera shakes and flashes, LOTR-style voiceover...nothing about it felt OT.  The only difference between my feelings and yours is that I still retain hope for enjoyment.

As I posted in the other thread, I have mixed feelings. Some things I like, others I didn't, much I don't either like or dislike. The closer I looked, however, the more I liked what I saw. It seems there has been much attention to detail, including making things look used. I don't have much of a problem with the silly-looking droid, as long as it doesn't end up being the next Jar Jar. Camera shakes and whatnot are more a product of modern movie-making rather than J.J.'s personal style. I didn't like the voiceover much either, but naturally, that isn't any indication of the final product.

I'm neither excited nor disappointed by the teaser. I expect the movies to have their own style distinct from the PT and OT, but keep true to the OT in some aspects, while not ignoring the PT at the same time. I expect to enjoy the movie, but I think it's safe to say that it will not be a classic. The OT was classic, and it just cannot be done again within the same saga. The expectations and level of cynicism are too high nowadays, and it would be extremely difficult to capture the same balance found in the OT without being accused of copying the OT outright.

I hardly think "random" is an appropriate word, but yes, as a teaser it does little more than tease.

I guess I should have clarified that the teaser trailer needs more CPY. :p

You should randomly put that Yoda in TRSB. ;)
