Sorry if I’ve missed this being mentioned, but this scene in the Fixed Alternate Version v8, I am seeing these red marks on the black bars during some shots. Probably been expressed earlier; just VLC crop and whatnot. But… just in case.

That must mean that beneath those shots in my timeline is a glowing red MEDIA MISSING thing.

I’ll get around to fixing that and re-exporting. Thank you for highlighting it.

I noticed that the sunset color correction on the scene in Bail’s Office seems to be a lot more subtle or missing in V8 compared to V7. Not sure if this was intentional. It’s not a huge deal, I just thought I’d mention it just in case.

Apologies if these has been touched upon before, but I have an older copy of this edit with Vader, Palpatine and Tarkin looking over Coruscant at the conclusion of the film instead of the fledgling Death Star. I enjoyed this choice, so I was just wondering when it reverted back to the Death Star over Coruscant and the reasoning behind the change. Love your edits Hal, just curious.

I honestly don’t remember the reasoning at this point, as it was close to a decade ago. I think it felt more right for the DS to be there due to audience expectations even though the movie didn’t need it.

You said in your commentary that you felt having the Empire gaze at Coruscant was implying the film was building up to something dramatic.

Hello Mr. Hal,

Always been a big fan of your prequel edits and just watched your Labyrinth of Evil Alt version. I’m sad you dropped your voice over for the medical droid as a little easter egg. I liked that you cut the “ooooba” from the birthing droid in your original and wished there was a way to drop it from the Alt version. I don’t know why it always bothered me lol. I was wondering if that was something you didn’t like as well, or if it just worked better cutting wise for the original Laberentith of Evil? Thanks again for my go to versions of these movies. I went from liking them to loving them!

I like ROTS the way it is, but if I had to change one thing it would definitely be that robot’s line. Something like, “We aren’t sure why, but her life energy is fading away”. Just so that it’s clear either Palpatine, or Vader unknowingly, is draining her life force into Anakin so he can be reborn as Darth Vader. If Vader did unintentionally do it due to his angry thoughts dwelling on her that would make the most sense with Palpatine’s next line: “It appears, in your anger, you killed her.” That line doesn’t match him choking her anyways because that was never what she died from in the original. Vader’s next line would then explain that he likely absorbed her life force: “She was alive, I felt it!” Yeah, of course you felt it, you were unintentionally absorbing it so you could stay alive.

Random side note, but I find the “ooooba” part absolutely hilarious. Just another meme to make this movie a true masterpiece.

You just opened pandora’s box by giving Palpatine and Vader the ability to just steal the life force and kill anyone anywhere anytime they want. The Rebellion and Jedi would never stand a chance and they would become all-powerful force gods from absorbing all that energy.

Hmmm maybe that’s the conundrum that led to a crap excuse like her heart breaking.

The counterargument to you is that Anakin and Padme shared an intense bond. So obviously something like this couldn’t just be performed between two nobodies.

The simple answer is that the Alternate version has no story reason to modify the birthing scene.

And I’m afraid I cannot contemplate making further tweaks to the prequels aside from the all-but-ready update to Ep1 that I’m waiting on TMWNN for. They were started in 2014, and even then they were a revived effort from 2005. I’m utterly out of steam for these three particular projects.

Is this still available? All the links seem to be down or unseeded. Just in time for May 4th.

I’m taking a look at V8. The deleted scenes don’t seem to have the color correction/grading that V7 had.

The only one that ought to be any different is the first ‘seeds of rebellion’ scene in Bail Organa’s apartment. I toned down the effect I had given it a little.

Hey there! Very much enjoyed the Labyrinth of Evil Cut. My favourite edit from you so far. The movie is super streamlined now. SPOILER ALERT: Cutting annakin killing younglings and padme living are some of the best choices here for me, loved it!

Who made the Palpatine face transformation shot where his face goes from normal to monstrous?

I’m gonna use it for my own edit and want to credit the artist.
