Star Wars Episode III: Labyrinth Of Evil (Released) — Page 8

Well, doing a crap mockup with subpar audio... I'm not sold on it. It doesn't sound like a great match for JEJ, especially when juxtaposed directly against it.

A nice idea, but it doesn't pass muster. "Nooooo!"

I kind of agree. I watched both clips and while he's not saying "Noooooo!!", which is the one thing everyone seems to get hung up on since Team America, the tone of his voice seems to different from the original voice.

Thanks to Hundsdorfex's amazing dedication, we have yet another cool little FX tweak. This time, it allows me to better integrate this scene. Not only did he recolor Leia's eyes to brown, but he painted out Bail's figure from the balcony so I could use that establishing shot. Also, I desaturated and recolored Alderaan somewhat to better match the footage of Natalie Portman.

When can we expect a new edition of LoE with this tweak (or are you planning more tweaks?)?  Thanks! :)

Just little things. There's a few brief lines and shots that I reinstated, but the main benefit of v4 is that it will look so much better, thanks to Hundsdorfex's care with a few shots, schorman13's HDTV source, and DrDre's algorithmic upscale of the deleted scenes. V4 will be it, save for an encode using Emanswfan's regraded version. But I'm not holding anything back in anticipation. As picky as I am, V4 will be the completion. New commentary tracks have been recorded, with things being locked and set.

Oh wow! Awesome. Is there V4's coming for all 3 films to include these fixes such as the improved deleted scenes or just Episode III?

No, it'll be all three. I've covered this here in the thread, by the way. Ep1 will be BluRay sourced with grain added, and color corrected slightly to take the edge off the overall red tint. Eps 2 and 3 will use shorman13's upcoming V2 source, and are really just waiting for that to be released.

DrDre's upscaled deleted scenes make a night and day difference, I gotta say. I'm encoding V4 of Ep1 right now, and Ep3 will be next because that's what shorman13 is releasing first. I'd like for them all to be out well ahead of TFA, but in the end I'd much rather be able to put the best of everything into this final release.

As always, I'll give another gentle nudge that you should go for DTS Master Audio. Yes, I'm aware that some of the audio sources used may not be of that quality, but why not go lossless off of whatever you are working on, especially when doing a Blu-Ray version? Just my two cents. :)

The main problem with that is I've been working in 5.1 from the beginning, and doing a mix in 6.1 would require redoing all the audio from scratch, not to mention upconverting all other 5.1 audio to match. Unless someone can convert the BR audio to 5.1, it just doesn't make sense to me to redo everything for a marginal difference in the sound.

I could, however, export what I'm working with in a higher bitrate for the MKV version, though it'd still be mostly sourced from DVD audio (save for Episode I).

Damn, a spot check reveals to me that I forgot to modify the subtitle shadowing for one scene of COD. Oh well, my new Mac can encode the whole film in 17 hours instead of the solid six it used to take me.

Maybe too late to ask, but did you ever consider using any of the other deleted bits, like "Changes to the Constitution," which I think nicely sets up Palpatine's seduction, or "Plot to Destroy the Jedi," which introduces the idea that the Jedi might actually be plotting to overthrow the Chancellor, as he suggests?

I used the 'plot to overthrow the Chancellor' scene in v3, so yes. It lets us see that Obi-Wan is in the know and involved with this stuff, giving a little more weight to his later dialogue about the Chancellor being evil and getting defensive about the idea of taking over the Republic as Anakin sees it.

The other scene you mention needs some FX wizardry, and would require careful editing of later scenes between Palpaying and Anakin, so I never really thought about using it. Upon reviewing it, it seems very unfinished and "on-set," with poor line deliveries. I think they did well to cut it and spread its pieces across other scenes.

Thanks for the question!

Oh that sounds sweet! Because one of my biggest issues in the PT (well ep. 2 and 3) were how Yoda and the Council were completely blind to it all. "the Dark Side clouds everything" is a nice line but they really look like oblivious fools.

I mean come on Yoda! You can tell that a kid's future 10+ years down the line is clouded but you can't feel Palpatine is manipulating everything? Dooku even tells you the whole plot and you still don't know??

Oh cool. Never checked out V3. Had a feeling it wouldn't be the last version.

Fair enough, I haven't seen that scene in a while so I trust your judgement.

FanEdit.org user CommanderBen sent me another mockup of the Vader scene using the Japanese dub. I figure it’s worth another go-round to assess everyone’s opinion. I could see it working, so please leave a comment if you have any opinion about this one way or the other. It has to be superior to the alternative of leaving the scene alone in order to use.

Sounds pretty good in terms of matching with JEJ (though there is a noticeable shift in volume at :54). The scream itself is not great (sounds a little like gagging - though I suppose he would actually make some weird noises with his new physical condition) but it is better than “Noooooooo” so maybe it is worth the change.

Also, have you done something with the color there? Seems like there’s some added contrast and maybe a bit of blueish tint? Anyway it looks fantastic, especially the shots of Obi-wan.

On the one hand, it’s still kind of stupid and he sounds like he’s gargling mouthwash. But the sound is consistent with the first grumbling he makes (present in this and the English dub).

I would be curious what someone who has never heard either version might think of their relative awfulness.

It’s still a bit silly, but I think it sounds marginally better. Makes it seem more like he’s in pain from overexerting himself with the force vs. just sad about Padme.

Hi, I’m glad people like the clip. The reason for the Volume Level Change is because I used your Revenge of the Sith edit’s video/audio edited with the Japanese BluRay audio. But unfortunately due to the BluRay’s 6.1 DTS mix it’s is a little Louder and has more Power then your edit so You can hear the volume change when they are put together. I’ll keep trying to smooth out the Transition. The clip is my last Beta (I was regrading the video and morphing the Japanese audio to fit James Earl Jones’s voice/tone a bit more etc.) before I do the Ultimate Final render which should sound better. For me personally I like the Scream/Yell better than NO!!! is because it has Anakin fighting with the Vocabulator/Vocoder in his helmet as he utters a guttural scream/yell of Anger, Agony, and Anguish as he realizes that all of his hopes, and dreams are destroyed and that the Emperor played/tricked him into doing the very thing he promised, and threw away everything to stop/save Padme from. Filled with hate, and consumed fully by the Darkside Darth Vader is born. It’s the perfect replacement for the old cheesy version and for me at least you can actually hear where Anakin Skywalker ceases to exist/dies and is replaced by, “The More Machine then Man” Darth Vader.

Yeah, CommanderBen put the clip together, but the only thing in question is the Vader yell. I won’t be modifying the video from Schorman’s source. And I’d remix the audio anyway. Thanks for chiming in; a preliminary consensus seems to slightly prefer the Japanese yell, though it too is a little weird.

I like the very beginning when it’s more like a grumble. When he starts yelling my biggest problem is the pitch is much higher, I don’t mind the gurgle as much because like some said it’s plausible in is current burnt to a crisp condition.

But either way I think the yell makes more sense then “nooo”. It’s more unbridled rage which goes nicely with the destruction around him.
