Star Wars Episode III: Labyrinth Of Evil (Finished!) — Page 27

I’m not sure about the Chewie removal though. The weird scene “good bye Chewbacca” removed seems enough to me to deal with the “fan service” issue of his presence. Besides, it was the last time Peter got the part entirely. Do you believe the shot of the Clones “The wookies are dead now” could be retained ? It shows how the new Empire is dealing with certain allies, which is cannon not only with ANH (“this… thing”) but with Rebels and Solo as well.

About the Yoda/Qui Gon scene, you could begin the dialogues during the wide exterior shot. You could then gain a few seconds; don’t know if it’s enough to get the entire lines.

“I have to say that I felt George’s group of six films had more innovative visual imagination, and this film was more of a retrenchment to things you had seen before and characters you had seen before, and it took a few baby steps forward with new characters.” - James Cameron about Episode VII.

I hadn’t realized the insensitive timing to bring up removing Chewie. I agree that one could get out of the theater having seen this and never know it was Chewie. I’ll see if anyone ends up producing anything to help mask him, though, as that’d be nice. If not for the Holiday Special, it’d be fun to consider this Chewie’s father.

As anyone ever tried to add more Tarkin in RotS ? He only makes a caméo appearance at the end of the movie, but in TCW he happens to be more present as some kind of military advisor of Palpatine. I wonder if anyone has ever tried to add him (as his “R1” version ?) in the background of more scenes (like in the Opera or when Palpy is welcome by Windu). Might not be the purpose of your edit, I was just thinking about it after seeing Dre’s ANH regrade thread.

Oh, about Tarkin, I wonder if the Tarkin double could be improved. I’ve always thought that the makeup looks weird. The best thing would be if Peter Cushing’s head/face could be inserted either with deepfake or by simply cutting out his head from a scene in a different film.

Yeah, that double has always looked like someone wearing a Van Helsing Halloween mask.

I don’t think the apartment scene works (the one where Anakin ‘feels lost’) for this edit. For one thing, the nightmare Anakin has is explicitly related to death during childbirth, whereas in LOE so far he’s only had one vague nightmare/premonition.
If this were an edit in which Padme dies, I would agree that immediately after the third ‘seeds of rebellion’ scene is the best place for it.

Here’s a test of the idea for showing a closeup of Anakin looking over the slaughter in the Temple. Please take a careful listen to the audio if you can, and let me know what you think.

It’s an interesting concept and idea, but I don’t necessarily think it flows that great, and it does feel more like a fan edit.

^ Fair; I posted a clip because I wasn’t sold on it myself. I finessed the audio to be fairly smooth, but the pacing of such a short two shots feels abrupt, even for ROTS.

I totally agree with you, still an interesting idea for people making their own edits of Revenge of the Sith.

I think the music should build to and then “land” on the shot of his face, to musically tie the shot of the temple together with the shot of Anakin, rather than starting a new chord at the close up that continues to the next shot. I imagine a dark ending chord, perhaps with a short swell just before the cut to Padmé where the music stops and shifts to something else.

And perhaps the shot of Anakin could be reversed so that he tilts his head up rather than down. I think that might look better considering that the shot before pans up, and that body language might also feel more like a “reaction” after looking at something rather than starting to look at something.

I think the shots should be flipped for dramatic effect if possible.

Yoda
Padme
Troopers
Anakin

It builds up the line from C3P0 telling Padme that Anakin came back to the temple. We think maybe he might have a change of heart only to be reminded of his darkness.

JEDIT: I can’t remember if LOE has the shot of Anakin marching up to the temple.

It did have the march sequence.

Excited that a V6 of this is happening. Would be interesting to see a workprint. Moving the ‘Plot to destroy the Jedi’ scene seems like it might address some of the issues I have with flow in that part of the edit.

I’d love to see you reinstate some of the Yoda/Palpatine fight, mainly just to break up the fight on Mustafar. But I know you have your reasons for cutting it.

Could you revisit the vocal pitch effects on the Battle Droid that says “hands up Jedi”? I get that you’re trying to make him sound less squeaky, but right now his voice sounds audibly deeper than any other battle droid in these films.

Here’s a weird potential idea. What do you think of making the brief “blink-and-you’ll-miss-it” Millennium Falcon cameo look more like it’s appearance in Solo?

I agree it flows much better now. The scene now takes the place of Anakin’s counseling session with Yoda.

Yeah. LOE has sort of an ‘Alien 3’ vibe to it: depressing. But, it still has some levity and gentle humor throughout. But LOE has a consistent tone which Yoda vs. Sidious would shatter. I do enjoy the sequence, but only because I can’t take it seriously and have to check out of Star Wars to do so IMHO.

I actually lifted a snippet of audio from ADigitalMan’s edit. I’m fine with it as it is, if only as an homage to my forebears.

There’s nothing in the text of the film to suggest it’s actually the Falcon. It’s just some YT-whatever model freighter, as far as I’m concerned. The fact that Solo altered its appearance before ANH only reinforces this.

Thanks for the feedback and ideas. 😃

And I’m not really feeling the super short ‘Anakin in the Temple’ scene; it’s seems just too short to feel legitimate. But, I will try to work on the music and make my best attempt before giving up on it.

I actually really like this, I think you should keep it.

Here’s another attempt, with score from the soundtrack used to roughly sync with Anakin’s shot without getting unwanted sound effects.

I actually thought this attempt was even better. It flows much more nicely. Do you think that if you decided to use this, you’d have someone talented with visual effects add Anakin’s scar to the other side of his face?

Pretty good

I can answer almost all questions anyone might have about the Sith from Star Wars Legends, and please do PM me for the bd25 DEED(Despecalised Editions), as I have this version, though I can’t answer technical questions about them. Very nice Hal. The music cue is very nice. Also, the flip screen does help place the scar in the right place. I first was thinking “Oh wait, if it is flipped, then the troopers will all be left handed now.” But if you look close, interestingly, there is a mix of left and right handed use of the blasters.

Weird for clones who all have the same accent as their genetic host whom they presumably did not spend the majority of their time around. 😉

Maybe the Clones are taking a cue from baseball to deal with the left and right handed Jedi? That’s the secret to taking down Jedi! No wonder they could do it!

Have you thought about incorporating some of NFBism’s edits to strengthen Anakin’s character/bring him more in line with TCW? I know some of those ideas were carried over into Mala’s audio track (and you’re keeping Mala’s change in the council scene, which I’m all for!), but I think there were some visual changes/edits that helped with that in NFBism’s edit, too.

I’ll try to find some particular examples in my downtime at work tonight.
