I tried to reincorporate the balcony scene, but there is really no place for it the way that section of LOE is structured. It’s a Gordian knot.

Then make like Alexander The Great and cut it. J.T. Just Teasing.

It would have been nice to have seen the necklace prior to that point but it is a minor drawback for the strengths of this cut. We tried, and the mockups didn’t work for those reasons.

That’s fair, did you test using it later in the film, as in NFBisms new Canon cut? I thought it worked surprisingly well in his edit.

Right after the Confronting the Chancellor deleted scene. You helped me place it there when I was testing early versions of my edit lol!

Heh. I can’t keep this shit straight anymore. Looking forward to having it all be over. Suffice it to say I did R&D about that scene for that reason and wasn’t able to make it work in a satisfying way.

And what scene comes after in your edit ? (I totally forgot to ask you a link for the final version by the way… I need as well to ask Dom for his cut… I need to stop watching EpIII for a long time I guess…)

It’s an incredibly annoying movie to watch over and over again.

I’m at this point where I consistently fall asleep and wake up at the same exact points in the movie every time and I can literally just use it as the perfect power nap timer.

i remember being fresh faced and excited about editing it

EDIT: oh right and the scene right after is Obi-Wan landing on Utapau

NFBisms - “It’s an incredibly annoying movie to watch over and over again.”

I think this speaks to how well the original trilogy ignited everyone’s imagination. The fact that Hal9000 and all you other wonderful editors are trying time and again to bend these prequels into such a great start to a franchise (apart from the holiday special of course).

I’m extremely grateful to have found your edits Hal9000! Great job coalescing a lot of wonderful ideas!

It does sound like an interesting take indeed. I’ll check your edit for sure when it’s available in bluray version !

LOE is now available via the normal channels. (Google Drive links will be finished uploading in about one hour.)

Very grateful to everyone who contributed in various ways to producing this as it is and will be. I look forward to watching these after a long interim prior to Episode 9’s release.
I’ll probably relax for a while before picking up TLJ, but that’ll be next.

I won’t post anything in this thread, so no misreading this time 😉

I wish my brain could tell you right now. For a few things: DTS audio, flawless opening crawls, greatly improved Boleyn sequence, various little changes, removed ‘high ground’ altogether, etc.

I would suggest getting V5 for archival purposes, since there will NOT be any further updates. But there’s not much to tout aside from ‘presentation’ aspects and little things.

V5 is the “Oh, all right, let’s go round one more time and make it as good as it can be before placing it permanently beyond my reach.”

various little changes

I remember the following:

  • missile sequence put back
  • Anakin/Grievous confrontation reinstalled in an altered version to make the joke work
  • C3PO deleted sequence line “It is an acquired taste” reinstalled
  • Lucas caméo put back
  • Padmé’s ruminations scene goes without video cut (Palpatine voice-over removed)
  • Anakin v Obi-Wan finishes without any dialogue being said (Anakin jumps almost right away after Obi-Wan does)
  • plus everything else mentionned by Hal (new crawl, lossless dts track, Boleyn girls scene enhanced with a necklace caméo)

Pretty sure that’s all. It’s like v4.2, but better. I think it’s the best version available at every level (editing choices, editing/sound/video quality). So chyron8472, you can take it. Besides, this version comes with refreshed french subtitles and new spanish ones thanks to mierdonardo (if you have spanish friends, they can be quite handy… the subtitles, the friends I wouldn’t know).

Hey, me again 😛
So i’m having corruption on all the blurays (DL) I burned for the prequel and TFA as well. It’s like visual artifacts across the board, even on your hal9000 intro.
I tsmuxed both with ‘change SEI’ and ‘do not change SEI’ with same results.
Is this something you’re aware of?

“This cannot be! Is… Is it an omen?”

I’ve never been able to successfully get HAL’s edits to burn to a playable Blu-Ray, for what it’s worth.

What program do you guys use? I personally use DVD fab (paid) and they burn smoothly.

I assume DVDFab reencodes the video though, right? I’m trying to avoid doing that since the MKVs should already be Blu-ray compliant and I don’t want to lose quality.

But to answer your question, I use tsmuxer for authoring and imgburn for burning the resulting ISO or BDMV folder and have never had a problem with other BD-compliant MKV streams … just HAL’s. 😦
