Didn’t he remove it entirely?

Ok, yes, and I’ll admit I haven’t been following the last few pages of this thread very closely. I would vote for removing it entirely like Q2 did but of course I’m not sure how that would work for your edit…

Well, it worked out great in versions 1-5 of Hal’s edit, which is why I’m so bummed he seems intent on putting it back in for version 6! 😉

I’m guessing you’re pretty set on keeping the lightsaber battle between Yoda and Dooku out, hey? It works SUPER well in TAS with it removed - I just remember being blown away as a 9 year old and have had a soft spot for it ever since.

Here’s a pretty minor suggestion, but could you keep more of Obi-Wan snooping around the separatist base? The way the music currently cuts from him observing the droid factory to listening in on the meeting is a bit jarring to me, as the first part of the “conspiracy” leitmotif is removed. My preferred edit of that sequence is the Phantom Editor’s which keeps it mostly the same as the theatrical but cuts the Trade Viceroy’s line “I’m not signing your treaty until I have her head on my desk.” to just “I’m not signing your treaty until I have her head.”

^ I can take a look (and listen) about Obi-Wan snooping around the Separatists’ meeting. My only concern is that Nute Gunray specifically stating he is holding out for Padme’s head may gently undermine TAS’s goal to imply Dooku is assassinating Padme due to secret loyalty to Palpatine. (It doesn’t make sense to the investigators, but it makes sense to us because we know this.)

Quoting one of my own videos at me? 😉

Yeah-…well maybe more like the machine not only knocked Anakin back but also cut the saber in half. But, yeah, if one has to explain it…I would have to think it’s not quite working. 😉

Ok.
Semi crazy idea but…

Imagine the Droid factory with Padme removed.

It would take effects work, but if you paint her out of a few shots in the initial hallway (including removing her from the shot of the doorway.)
Skip the door closing/platform-withdrawing/Anakin hanging shots.

Use the Shot of Anakin jumping down. It looks like Anakin runs through the door and immediately jumps down, with the battle continuing.

The rest of the shots of Anakin can be arranged and strung together, leading up to being caught by Jango.

That way her and Anakin are captured separately. The sequence serves a purpose.

Some people call them Force Ghosts. I call them Midichlorian Swarms.

It’s kinda what already happens in the theatricul cut.

“I have to say that I felt George’s group of six films had more innovative visual imagination, and this film was more of a retrenchment to things you had seen before and characters you had seen before, and it took a few baby steps forward with new characters.” - James Cameron about Episode VII.

I’m having a hard time picturing what you’re suggesting, nightstalkerpoet.

And while I am not going to put back in Nute Gunray calling for Padme’s head for the reasons I posted about earlier, I did just redo the musical transition and I think it’s at least slightly better than it was, all while reinstating Dooku using the number ‘ten thousand.’

I find it funny how you said that you were currently not planning on working on a V6 of Episode II anytime soon, until people started suggesting additions and changes for a new version, considering that you stated you were working on new versions of the other two prequels.

So do I. Once the seal broke, some of the things I know deep down aren’t seamless or convincing cry out for correction. The theme of V6 has been putting back little things and edges. But yeah, this is getting a bit silly. Hoping to wrap these soon, take a break, and get all 9 wrapped middle of next year.

That’s all right! Take your time and enjoy your personal life as well. We’re all patient and excited to see what you do, but most of all, have fun and enjoy the editing process. I find it to be pretty fun at times.

From the current discussion, I am probably more curious with Sir Ridley’s work on having Anakin’s lightsaber retract showing he has his lightsaber but is surrendering … that is the simplest and probably the better way to go.

Here’s the shot in context, if you’d like to take a look. We’re lucky to have Ridley around. 😃

Well, I was able to use some time this weekend to complete V6 of Ep2 in my timeline. I’m going to focus on getting my ESB ‘Custom SE’ out the door next, to make sure nothing groundbreaking emerges for this project until then. I’ll need to redo chapters, resync subtitles, and a few other things like that when I get back around to it.
Hopefully by then Angel will have been able to complete the two or three things he’s doing for LOE V6.

This is excellent ! It perfectly does the trick. Nice job Sir Ridley 😉

Yeah this looks excellent. For some reason, I was actually expecting the retracting shot to be the final shot in that scene, so I was surprised it took place in the close up. But it works wonderfully.

Perfect, I like it! Simple but effective.

Wow, it looks excellent! Is there any chance we could see a preview of your version of the Dex’s Diner sequence as well? I’m interested in seeing what you did with it.

Author

It’s similar to Cathy’s edit, but longer.

Over the establishing shot of the diner, we hear Dex say, “He-heyyyy, ooohh, buuuddddy.” We cut to the two of them sitting themselves down into the booth. Dex asks, “So, my friend, what can I do for you?” And the scene plays out unedited from there.

I like that it includes a line from Obi-Wan seeming to disparage droids. That dovetails with me removing him ever calling R2 by name in Ep3, to alleviate his apparent amnesia about R2 and 3PO in ANH.

Here’s something small that can be done to help the edit feel like more like a feature film.

You shifted the Anakin’s “I’ve got a bad feeling about this” to before the beasts come out of their cells. It might be best to add some of the music and ambiance that plays when the beasts come out in the background for that shot.

Also, since you removed C-3PO and R2-D2 from the arena fight, it would be wise to add some Republic Gunship sounds in the background for the shot of Boba Fett holding his father’s head.

The reason I’m suggesting to add in these instances of background audio is because the transition for those two shots felt a bit abrupt in both the volume and atmosphere.

Thanks; I will revisit those with careful ears and see if anything else can be done with them.
