Star Wars Encyclopedia.

I think the latest and greatest Star Wars Encyclopedia came out in 1998, I could be mistaken, but im sure you all know which I mean. However, with the impending release of all the movies in one glorious box set, does anyone know when an updated version will come out, or if they will even bother?

Yeah, the 2007 "archival" release will bring a LOT of merchendise tie-ins, without a doubt. I know that the 1998 SW encyclopedia was written by Steve Sansweet, so I suspect that he will do the 2007 one, since he's the expert on the Star Wars saga in its entirety. Although Nathan Butler wouldn't be a bad choice either.

What I think would be interesting is if George Lucas himself wrote some sort of book detailing his views of each film and his personal thoughts and experinces on the saga. Man, no matter what opinion you have of him, you've gotta admit that that would be AWESOME!

That is true, imagine a book or seris of books with everyones views of each film, book game and other media, the possibilities are endless, I guess we'll just have to see what 2007 brings, I personally cannot wait, you haooen to know what time of year itll be out in the uk?

How do we even know there is a so called "archival edition". Has it even been confirmed?!

Has Lucas even commented that we will se "a LOT of merchendise tie-ins, without a doubt"

!?!?!

Have you got any proof to back this up or are we supposed to actually believe it?!

Who's that directed at?

Theres more then likeley going to be a 1 - 6 box set, ive never heard of it being called the archivel relase but thats not the point, its going to happen, if it happens next year or in ten years its inevitable, ten years after its released theyll probly bring out an anniversary edition, its how these people make money i mean think about it, they've allready released the special edition dvd's TWICE - exactly the same films just put in a different box (also when the special edition videos first came out all those years ago they advertised it as 'the last time starwars would be released' but this was before the days of DVD)
And yes, with dvd releases there usually comes merchandise (as the great yogurt from Spaceballs says; its where the real money from the movie is made hehe)

Kev you demand proof from adam backing up what hes said, cant the guy just have an opinion?

Yeah, I do blieve that something that is very likely. It would be a PERFECT way to celebrate this "final" edition of the saga, where, at least to me, the saga finally will be complete. Having Lucas or Lucas and others write a grand book on their experiences would be an excellent companion piece to the archival box set (AWK has a fan-gasm at this point).

No, I don't have any proof. I'm just going by what I think will happen. You should know by now that very little information presented by anyone on the internet is ever 100% reliable. I'm just having fun kev.

I agree. They do this with every series when it comes to a close. For example, Peter Jackson released a box set of the LOTR trilogy, and then not long after, he released a special edition box set of them all.

Correct. And, like I said, you should always assume it is only my opnion. Why? Because it's coming from my post.

Lucas had announced plans for a 6 dvd set a long time ago. The term "archival edition" is also something he brought up in the same article. As far as I remember it was planned to have several incomplete (yes, ironic) versions of the films - one without music, one with only the music, one without visual fx etc. - the idea was obviously to show how important each element of a film is. However that Lucas statement is very old by now and since his plans seem to change by the minute, you'll never know what's going to happen next.

And hey kev, I would really appreciate if you'd stop the unprovoked flamage - it really gets on my nerves.

the only kind of books im interested from lucas at this point is one where he admits to not having star wars planned out. i do know carrie fisher will have a tell all book and so far thats the only thing im interested in.

Well, I must say that I really prefer themed reference books for each aspect (characters, species, vehicles,...) than a one big encyclopedia that would be with no doubt very incomplete, or at least with little articles with not enough infos...

The best way to have a very complete encyclopedia with a lot of infos is a web encyclopedia IMO. Unfortunately, the "Databank" of the official site is really small, and misses a lot of things from the EU. But, they have to sell books, so...

Steve Sanseet is coming out with a revised an updated Star Wars Encyclodedia book. Carrie Fisher said she is goingto do a tell all book. Both these were straight from the sources -- Carrie and Steve. I was there when they said it.
There's good in the Original Trilogy, and it's worth fighting for.

The "Archival" edition of 2007 is a fanboy dream, but it remains one with a good possibility of becoming true. 2007 is of course the 30th anniversary of SW, and fresh off the heals of completing the SW saga its a perfect opportunity to do something with the films, as i think McCallum has said. Theatrical relases have been totted around by Lucasfilm reps, and i think a I-VI boxset is inevitable, so likely what will happen is a limited release of all six films in theatres, followed by a complete boxset.

The whole "Archival" thing is a reference to what may turn out to be fanboy dreaming, as the films are supposedly going to be spruced up yet again with more enhancements and ties to bring the six films together, while also giving us plentiful new DVD extras. Nodoubt Lucas has hinted he will return to touch up the films at least one more time (and indeed, the films do need it, if only for technical things that have for some reason STILL slipped by the radar, such as Kenobi's "shorting out" saber in ANH that has only been partially corrected), but if and when he does i don't think they will substantial fixes--the latest DVD versions have likely given us the last of the major enhancements, and after all the hubbub about the 2004 extras i can't see any substantial improvements other than those damn deleted scenes that have for some reason been left out of both the Indy set AND the SW set.

Well, he very proudly said on the ROTS DVD that he intends them to be seen in story order. So what's going to happen is this: He will set down, watch them in order, notice several problems (such as the issue with Leia remembering her mother, but Luke not remembering her), and correct these for the 2007 DVDs.

says who

maybe he has better things to do in life than star wars. How could he fix and tamper every scene that seen to you as a "plot error" without messing up his whole story? Maybe he should just leave them alone and release the O-OT on DVD blue ray.

Adam, that's probably the most pathetic excuse of a post I've seen you written so far in a Star Wars debate/discussion.

I refuse to have anything to do with the 2007 archive editions.
I'd like a qui-gon jinn please with an Obi-Wan to go.
