Star Wars Disco

I remember reading somewhere that there were several Disco versions of the Star Wars theme in the late 70s, but the only one the internet seems to acknowledge is the Meco version. Admittedly, that's the version that I seem to remember as well, but this video clip presents another that may or may not have been in wide release:

Do you know of any other Disco versions (from the Star Wars era, 1977-1983)? I'd be interested in tracking them down.

I don't need a bet to ignore things you say ......  :)  My REAL problem is that even my death wouldn't cure me of your annoyance.

If that were true, you wouldn't respond.  At any rate, I'd love to hear why you think this is in the wrong place.

Yeah, okay my little forum stalker ...... LOL

At any rate, I'd think this would be better in ...

http://originaltrilogy.com/forum/forum.cfm/Star-Wars-Preservations-and-Other-Fan-Projects/forum/17/

There have been other audio projects there and someone who has done one may not see this here but be better at giving an answer in the Preservation section.

Duh?

This is a preservation question?  You'd know better than me, but just looks like he's looking for info on some songs.

And I never claimed I try to ignore you, so I don't know what you are loling about.

The sexual tension between Frink and Fo is so thick right now I can spread it on a piece of toast.

If you're sensing sexual tension, it AIN'T coming from me.  I cannot speak for Frink, nor would I want to know any of his personal tendencies as his public ones are annoying enough.

:)

Yes.  There are folks there that have done vinyl restorations of Star Wars related audio and they WOULD know enough to lead the OP in a good direction.

You might be right but that doesn't make it a preservation question.  But whatever, this derail has bored me so I will stop posting about it.

He was working as a waitress in a cocktail bar when I met him.

Joel,

You may want to pose this inquiry in the Star Wars Preservation section as they have done some vinyl related stuff and they would probably have the insight you need.

Cheers, I hope you find what you're looking for.

Do they sell fuzzy chance cubes?

Meco did every original trilogy film plus Close Encounters, Superman and The Wizard of Oz.

As for other disco versions you have to dig around.

James Last for example did a rather funky Doctor Who theme on his Star Wars themed album but Star Wars itself was straight if a bit flat and brassy (like Frink's mom).

This thread jogged my memory of a cassette tape I had as a youngster that had (Slightly dodgy funky/disco but wonderful) re-recorded versions of many of the Sci-Fi themes a kid could need. Before the intrawebz this was a great cheap way to get all the space music you wanted without forking out for a dozen LPs (They were often sold at Motorway garage shops in the UK). Yay! :-D

I 'think' it was this (But a cassete tape)

But I don't think the cover looked like that.

This is more like what I remember.

But I'm sure my copy had more tracks than that ^. I'd swear down dead it had 'Star Beyond Time' at least. Maybe I had a double cassette version. Anybody remember these things?

I played that thing to death.... wish I still had it.

^Broken images, Ryan.

Joel, if you search on Ebay for "Star Wars Disco", you'll get a good sampling of what came out back then. Saw some there that I've never heard of!

Thanks, that seems to be the best way to find titles for sure.

I had a similar tape, think it was this one.

The Star Wars theme was reworked into some kind of guitar-driven synthpop, IIRC.

"Neil Norman and his Cosmic Orchestra" great name :-D

Not the same as mine but I did also have a re-recorded cassette of all the Bond Themes (Noticed that ^ had Moonraker) too. I'm 100% sure it was this one from the 'Double Play' label...

...so that suggests that my SW cassette was also the Double Play one as these things are often sold to the retailer by the rack and I bought both from Motorway Garages in the early 90s (Maybe very late 80s). No earlier than 1989 as Timothy Dalton in L2K was on the cover.

Other than Meco, I'm not aware of any other "disco" tributes to SW. If there is, I'd be mildly surprised. In any case, the Meco medley is the best one out there, IMO. Meco also did versions of the Imperial March, Princess Leia's Theme, etc., but they weren't as fun as the medley. I actually prefer the truncated single version of the medley, as opposed to the longer album version.

Besides, the "disco" era (not to be confused with the European definition) ended in '79 ("disco is dead!") so anything after that probably isn't disco anyway. ;-)
