Star Wars Digital HD Release .... April 10th — Page 12

People complain about studio logos being omitted and/or replaced with modern ones over at the Home Theater Forum all the time. This isn't unique to Star Wars.

Yeah, a frequent complaint on Blu-Rays is the whole new company logo, every Disney movie I own has the CGI castle intro from 2011 on it.

I feel Lucasfilm seriously need a better vanity plate than just a sparkly logo on a black blackground however, I mean come on guys.

To those of us who have grown up with the OT, the 20th Century Fox logo and 'fanfare' were an intrinsic intro. to the movies themselves.  So much so, that it kinda seemed as if the short 'fanfare' was truly a part of of the overall experience - especially since it was actually included on the official soundtrack scores.

The prequels I couldn't care less about, but seeing as the 'fanfare' was such a seamless lead-in to Williams' actual main title theme, then the same equally applied to them too.  For those of us who have re-watched the Star Wars movies many times, it will seem somewhat jarring to see and hear a different lead-in to the main theme in future releases/tv showings of them.  It would have been neat to still hear the lead-in 'fanfare' cue *no matter* what logo(s) are to be used now...

Still, the only versions of these movies which I personally intend to re-watch are *fan edited* ones which will have the 'fanfare' and logo in place anyway.  And I guess I can always attach it to the front of the next chapters too, if it's absence bothers me too much. :)

So would the 20th cebtury fox fanfare be included in a future release of the OUT?

Not if Disney owns and/or distributes the the OUT on Blu-Ray.

However, if people complain enough, they might cave and put back the Fox logo and/or the old fanfare. Slim chance though on everything.

How have other films originally distributed by Fox been handled on recent video releases by other companies? Clive Barker's Nightbreed for example...

Love the telegraph's poll:

"Will you be buying the digital star wars collection?"

"Yes I am/aready have" - 9%

"No - it's overpriced/pointless" - 38%

"No - I want the theatrical originals" - 54%

Very interesting. I'm sure the usual suspects will find a way to discredit it. ;)

JEDIT:Where's the actual poll? I don't see it...

Ah, ok. Noscript must have been blocking it before. Whole lot of crap that has to be temporarily whitelisted on that page. ;)

I looked on iTunes and the movies are £12.99 each. Buying all 6 of them would cost significantly more than the Blu-Ray boxset which wasn't that cheap to begin with. No thanks.

Is there any site that actually lets you download the extras?  I know that itunes and amazon extras are streaming only.  I'm just curious if it would even be possible to archive that content.

So I know that you can take a CD and convert it into Itunes onto your iphone.  And I've known you can convert the Bluray or DVD you own to the digital format onto that same device via something like DVDFAB (the ripping program I use), so I was wondering if either is actually legal to do?

Or is it different between music and a movie?  I wonder if it's not since virtually any movie you buy now comes with a free digital copy.

Saying this since it's actually less expensive to buy such a program and convert your existing copy rather than buying a digital version.

I do not advocate pestering this guy. He's entitled to his opinion, even if I think it's ill informed.

The first film being listed simply as Star Wars a New Hope is crap, as is claiming the original release date as 1977.

It was called Star Wars, none of that bad 1990's or 2000's cgi was in there.

When i saw the trailer with the cgi  millennium falcon from 1997 it made me furious this is not Star Wars.

I also saw that the colors were not fixed and laughed out loud that Darth Maul's lightsaber was still orange and Vader's saber was still pink.

The new false logo is not just losing a part of history but part of the film itself. It's like removing United Artists from the Bond films--but even moreso Fox made the Cinemascope expansion music standard for all their films afterwards all largely due to Star Wars needing it for the Lucasfilm credit. Thus you always think of SW instead of Fox Cinemascope.

Painful to see.

And this release is ridiculous in that it is significantly more than the blasted Blu-ray set. Who do they think they are kidding???
