Star Wars DVDs selling fast

Amazon.com says the Star Wars trilogy box set is the most succussful DVD set of all time. I guess lack of originals is not turning to many people off is it.

Heard about that too. Breaking pre-selling records.

Look, don't get me wrong, I WANT the original version to be released as well, I really do, BUT... since the SE is all we have, I'll have to buy it, Greedo shooting first an all. If they release the original version, I'll get it. If they release an Ultimate Edition, I'll get it too (althought I seriously doubt it'll be released).

The point for buying the SE versions is: even if GL do release an OT version in, let's say, 2 years from now, who knows what may happen to me during those 2 years? I could go blind, I could die a horrible death... I gotta have any SW DVDs I can right now... Before it's too late.
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

Here's my evil master plan:

1.) Buy the september DVD set off of ebay
2.) Buy a dual layer DVD burner
3.) Edit out all the stupid plot changes and burn my custom versions on DVD
4.) Be Happy
5.) MWUAHAHAHAHARRR

The Ultimate Editions are coming. I would bet my money on it. Also if you want the original versions there are alot of bootleg DVDs. They often come in anamorphic widescreen and while not up to standard of what an official DVD would look they are vastly better then what a VHS would look. You won't be stealing because Lucas says the originals don't excist. How can you steal something that doesn't excist. Me I am buying the official DVDs this fall. While I don't like every change I do overall prefer the Special Editions. There is still a possibility that Han and Greedo scene will be restored in the DVDs. Ign.com has reported this and says they have sources and I hope there right. Even if they are not I will definutly get these DVDs as soon as I can.

Nothing wrong with that, jimbo. I just get 'em off ebay so Lucasfilm doesn't see my money for it, they got very cocky over the years, imho. I know it won't matter much in terms of sales figures, yet I want to stick to my principles. Like Lando, I feel being treated unfairly - unfortunately I don't have a Lobot and a personal bodyguard force to command.

I'm also not holding my breath for the ultimate editions. *points at his sig*

I imagine many people who are buying the DVD's don't even realise the difference. And since they don't have any choice, why wouldn't they buy it, unless they were a real fan of the original versions?

Nah, the blind masses just sees a box with starwars written on it - they just don't care what version it is at all. The best folks are those who write reviews on amazon without knowing jack about what the DVDs will be like and just write "Yay! StarWars is coming to DVD" and blindly awarding the thing 5 stars in advance.

What I love was when Lucas first said Special Editions only many fans said "nobodys going to buy the Star Wars DVDs" "They will be sitting on the shelf collecting dust" To people who said that I have one thing to say. Hahahahahahahahahahahahhahhahahahahah

Never said that myself; I only said that I probably wouldn't buy them.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

I heard alot of comments from people. It is probably one of those statements people wish they could take back. Heres more. These are real I swear.

"The airplane is an intresting toy but has no military value"
"Who would want a computer in there home?"
"DVDs will probably never replace VHS"

Hey Jimbo have fun with your brand spanking new trashed versions of Star Wars buddy. Feel free to bask in their CGI crappiness. By the way your the kid at school who gloats when he gets an A on a test everyone flunked, and guess what you ruined the curve now your ass is gunna get beat once school is over. So gloat, brag, and say haha as much as you want but dont do it too loud, or else you WILL be sorry.

The ironic thing is that the only way you could prove the SE was more popular than the original cut was to release both versions. If the SE had sold more I guess some of us would have to eat our words. But the fact is that nobody who wants to buy a retail version of Star Wars on DVD has any choice, GL made the choice for the; so I for one will go on beleiving that the original cut would have been more popular, and there is no way anyone can prove differently...

Go read some force.net polls to see which version is more popular

That's only if you believe the fanboys over at theforce.net.

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

No I am just saying that it is not divided into those who don't care and those who prefer originals. There is a large fanbase who cares and knows the difference between both versions and prefers the Special Editions. They are the minority on this site but the majority overall.

We already discussed that poll. It clearly establishes that the vast majority of people wat BOTH VERSIONS on DVD. So GL is NOT doing what most people want, and most people do NOT agree with you. MOST PEOPLE WANT BOTH VERSIONS WHICH IS EXACTLY WHAT EVERYONE ON THIS SITE -EXCEPT- YOU, IS CAMPAIGNING FOR. THis has been said over and over again and you just don't get it.

True but more people voted Special Editions only then originals only

While this point is usually missed in the OT vs. SE thread, no arguement about which one is better leads to anything but arguement. Simply wanting both on the other seems completely comprimising and accomidating to me. Only problem is, GL doesn't want to compromise at all on this. And then puts out Pan and Scan versions, the true root of all evil as far as crappy Star Wars.

Agree with you on pan scan but thats Fox who presured Lucas to release Pan scan.

but if Fox would pressure GL t release the pre - SE edition, he wouldn't do that

what annoys me the most is that the cover of the DVD box shows the original poster of SW, the one used back in 1977. With this he is clearly playing with the nostalgia of people but he has no right to do that because he is releasing the SE, and there is no nostalgia about that one.

"Last night, Darth Vader came down from planet Vulcan and told me that if I didn't take Lorraine out that he'd melt my brain."

It doesn't say original versions anywhere on that box. Also the original version of Episode 4 was never known as A New Hope. Fox isn't presuring him to release originals because there are more pan scan fans then original version fans.

Excuse me? I hate to be slightly rude, but I beg to differ. I have great memories seeing the SE in theaters in '97, sorry that I am only 15 years old but I bet a few people would say the same thing. Otherwise, I just wish he would release both, regardless of the packaging.

what i mean is that the style of that picture is clearly from the '70s. and since this is not the version of the movies released in '77, '80 and '83, imo it's incredibly hypocritical to play on people's memories of the original edition. i'm 21, meaning that i wasn't around when they came out at that time but when i see that picture i associate it with the pre SE and not with the SE. the SE have their own posters and they should have used those for the DVD release.
and i didn't mean that they do that to con people in believing that those are the original ones but only that they are using the poster of the movies that established SW as a cult trilogy, for releasing the SE.
