Star Wars DVD Music Mix Botched!! — Page 3

The sound issue with Tarkin is ineed bad. It sounds like somebody else reading the line and the volume is twice that of the other Tarkin lines in the scene. Really no excuse for that one or the switching of the surround channels.

OK..adding some fuel to this already flaming topic.

Did anybody else notice when the Falcon is leaving the Death Star, the audio for the engines seemed a bit "off" ,and the "whoosh" sound it makes as it flies by the camera now extends into the interior scene with Luke and Leia? As it went before, the Falcon is flying past the camera, and the sound of its engine cuts off immediately into the interior scene.
Some of the (original) audio survived into this release, which I did like (some of the background announcements for Death Star personnel), and some of the dialog DID sound a lot better, but whoever did the audio apparently fell asleep at the switch.

I won't even mention the horrible looking black boxes (badly digitized matte boxes) around the TIE fighters in the DS escape sequence after that (which I didn't see in my TR47 discs).
"You think we go to your movies, Harry? I've seen better film on teeth..."

Okay. So we now know that ANH 2004 is rife with problems. How about the other discs? Anyone? Anything?

Just an observation, not really a problem. In Empire, when Luke ignites his saber in the carbon freezing chamber they use the alternate activation sound (from Jedi) rather than what was there before. It was actually pretty weird hearing it because I'm so use to how it's always sounded. Like I said before, A New Hope's entire audio mix is messed up. Something that was just friggin retarded to me was when the door closes in Mos Eisley (3PO says "You watch your language") and the surrounds are used for the closing thud...it just made no sense. I don't know.

It seems to me that most of the technical problems are with ANH. Just from what I read.

All these audio issues, I might be willing to look past.. except the near-total loss of the score during most of the Death Star battle. How could they have allowed that?

The IMDB is now running a story on this!!!!

You can read it here.

Or just view it here:

Well at least the reversed surround channels have been addressed.

IMDB? How weird, considering they are affiliated with Amazon. Won't that hurt their sales?
“Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.” — Nazi Reich Marshal Hermann Goering

Good ol' THX... guess someone fell asleep at the switch...

well its nice to know that people are finally noticing this....

does anyone know what people are saying on StarWars.com?
"Never. I'll never turn to the darkside. You've failed your highness. I am a jedi, like my father before me."

I do. There are the sane ones that are asking what the deal is...then there's the fanboys saying that said people are just out to find problems with DVDs...

That's why I never post there. Today, on the main page was a selection from the board, a topic about the new DVDs where someone said something to the effect of "When I watched ROTJ, my neighborhood must have heard me shout NABOO!" What a loser. Fuckin assholes.

The official site has locked two threads mentioning the audio problem. I started one and my friend started the other.

Unfortunately, he's a rich dumb guy. He introduced me to the girl of my dreams and then he pulled out a gun and shot her. Not literally, but that is how I feel about his revisions and burying the Original Versions.

Yeah, when the board starts taking part in genocide, then you can safely use that allusion.

????

I read the link, but that says something about mentioning the political party running Germany from 1933-1945 that I cannot mention by name or I will lose the argument.

What we have is a case of the DVDs being too GOOD for our cheap DVD players... Most DVDs are encoded at a 3.5 bitrate data stream and a two hour movie can fit on a single disc. I made a DVD of my own movie to show at a fest and I encoded at 7.5 megabits to get the best image quality. The DVD player used could not play the disc about 20 minutes into the show - it skipped, the audio jumped and it got stuck on a freeze frame. As a backup I had a 3.5 back-up DVD that we switched to and it played fine . Like my movie I think the SW DVDs are at a higher
bitrate than NORMAL but within the DVD standard. I have ESB playing on an i-mac 800 MHZ at if I try to listen to the Audio com track it stutters in full screen mode but plays fine a small window. My players fault not the disc if I had a G5 I'm sure the full screen would work...
On my Sony the movies played fine , on my Apex Dual - layer discs no way...
It's the Player not the disc.

The reason your threads on sw.com got locked was redundancy of topics, not censorship to your opinion. You could have posted a thread like "Whoooo! The switched musical score on the rear channels is really great!!!" and it'd still got locked. Just post inside the thread the moderators directed you to.

Another thing I'd like to get off my chest, is that I can't really understand the hatred towards individuals who also like the prequels or actually like some of the changes applied to the classical films. I really don't see how the same narrow mindedness we accuse Lucas and 'his' so-called 'fanboys' of, is going to help us in any kind of argument with people who disagree with our views.

I am posting on starwars.com from time to time and there are quite a lot reasonable people to be met there as well. In the end we're all StarWars fans who feel equally passionate about those films and I don't see how my disagreement with the lacking quality standards of the 'o4 DVDs or the changes therein, weigh any heavier than the opinion of someone who can live with these things or someone who even likes it.

I'm really alienated how much some people get caught up in their bitterness about the whole situation. Of course I am sad and disappointed as well about how a few key decision makers at LFL think merely in terms of putting 'just enough effort into the product to make it sellable' instead of making all the effort to make this the greatest DVD release possible (For this really shows how much this turned out to be "just a job" for them), but I won't let myself getting all caught up in negativity because of this. All I'm trying to say is "Let's keep a little optimism here."

And Luke, please cut the pointless 'jimbo-bashing'. He didn't even post in this thread, so this doesn't even qualify as 'return fire'. I would really be grateful if this childish feud would be put to a -- permanent -- rest.
