Star Wars DVD Covers — Page 32

Hey guys, I have been wanting to make covers for cardboard slip cases for the plastic cases and I am tired of cutting and gluing. Is there a good spot I could buy these cardboard boxes?

Anyone have a more detailed explanation of how to print Scara's covers on foil paper or transparency or whatever, and where to get these things? I've seen transparency sheets in Staples, but never foil paper. And are the regular "overhead projector" type transparencies the right type?

Ramandu -- we'd all appreciate the correction of the typos. I could probably fix them too, but I don't have that much training with photoshop and it'd be a pain in the arse to fix the text and preserve the background. If you are good enough with the program to do it relatively painlessly, we'd all appreciate that. And maybe you would know how to deal with this foil and/or transparency deal too.

Where are the full-res images for the boxes? That shot of the spines lined up is of the slipcase spines, right? And how does one make a box for the keepcases (like a slipcase)? The only way I could think of is by cutting it out of cardboard and bending and gluing it by hand. Sluggo had a good question, is there anywhere we could buy blanks like this?

Jupiter Prime told me that he bought his foil paper at Meritline. Click the link to go directly to (what I *believe* is) the product. Note that this paper is 8.5 x 11, which may be an issue with some printers.

Scara is aware of the typos and is re-editing his covers.

Thanks THX and Obi.

As far as covers in general though, I've noticed that many of the links on this thread have been taken down or are broken. Where can I find all the covers that are being produced here? Who's site has all of them and how can I go to the site? Are all the covers collected in one place? Anyone offering a CDR with all the covers on it?

We should really have OT.com host all the covers, that way they'd all be in one place and easy to find and download. They should be not in a thread but permanently in another section of the site.

This site should also have a non-thread section with a list of all the known bootlegs with their common names, their specs, screenshots and reviews. This way all the bootlegs would be listed in one place where we could compare them. The amount of different versions are increasing at a dizzying rate. People are mentioning ones that I haven't heard of constantly and I can't keep up with them. I can't even remember all of them. We really need to have a sort of bootleg catalog.

Putting a list of bootlegs and details would be up to us to compile the information. As for hosting the covers here, it won't happen. Jay pays for this site out of his own pocket and hosting those big ass hi-res images would make him have to pay even more for both server space and bandwidth to download them all. You guys will likely have to arrange something on your own offsite.

I should have something available later today. I'm just gonna combine a number of freebie web services to get the job done, and we should have a site devoted to covers shortly (having the day off rocks).

Anybody want your covers hosted? Then PM me and I'll jet you back a list of required info (size, dimensions and such) and a contact address, since I'm gonna try to lay out the site to be as dial-up friendly as possible.

Bossk-- I see your point about bandwidth. But the bootleg list wouldn't be a problem, would it? If we wanted screenshots and maybe even cover art created specifically for that bootleg, they could be linked to another site where someone else could volunteer to host them.

Rebel Rouser -- Good idea about the freebies. I don't have any covers that I created myself, I'm just looking to get a complete idea of what is out there. I found a lot of cool stuff on http://www.cdcovers.cc/ but that site is the slowest, buggiest, most tempermental site I've ever encountered. Plus, a lot of the covers weren't that high res. A lot of the covers I downloaded from there I'd like to get better copies of.

Crap in a hat...

Alright folks, last night (I think) I read somebody say something about there being two places to host images, ImageShack, which does smaller images, and some other site, which does the larger ones.

But I can't find the thread or the post, and I can't remember the name of the site. If anybody remembers, or knows of a good freebie large image hosting site, please lemme know. I'm trying to get this site thrown together.

A bootleg list wouldn't be a problem, but it would likely just have to sit in its own thread. Jay doesn't mind us discussing bootlegs but I doubt he wants to personally participate in it. You just need to create another thread and post them in there.

Okay guys, not so rough... most likely English is not his first language.

The Prillaman site is a good start to get good High Quality DVD Covers:
http://www.prillaman.net/dvd-covers-starwars.html

NOTE: This site has reached its alloted bandwidth for the month so check back this weekend.

There is also a very extensive Star Wars DVD Cover Collection up on MySpleen:
http://www.myspleen.net

NOTE: This site is a Bittorrent Tracker site, requires FREE User Registration and a Bittorent Client such as g3Torrent, Bittornado or Azureus

Filter through this thread... you will find some truly amazing covers. Rebel Rouser posted some really cool ones inspired by the "official" OT DVD Release... look for those a few pages back.

Good Luck

I wasn't trying to insult his grasp of English (if I did, I apologize). I just had no idea what he was referring to. And I didn't want to simply say "I don't understand what you mean". Where's the fun in that?

Prillaman's site rocks. He even has a few of my covers there. I feel sorry for the guy though. His bandwidth is always getting trashed. If someone puts up this cover site, it would be great if they would mirror some of his images, so he can keep the bandwidth.

Workin' on that site right now. Like I said, if anyone want's their covers hosted, just PM me.

After I get this initial layout done, getting covers up will be a snap.

(*heh*heh* I woulda had this done HOURS ago, but my double layer DVD burner showed up around noon... been playing with my new toy for a while. )

UPDATE: Alright suckas... it's up. All I need now is some cover submissions. I'll be going over this thread throughout the night and trying to compile a folder full of covers, but I'd prefer submissions directly from the designers themselves so I can make sure everyone gets the proper credit. Just PM me... like I've previously stated.
