That looks damn nice. The only thing I would change is the font used for "Prequel Extended Trilogy." It's kind of girly.

But I was going to go to tosche station to pick up some power converters!

After the...controversy over at fanedit.org in the November 2007 Fanedit Cover Contest thread, I for some reason felt that Star Wars would make a good GTA cover. I reworked my design, took some helpful (yet agreeably spiteful

) advice and put together a much better GTA style template. I was wondering if anyone wanted to suggest some screen-shots for the front and back. I had some ideas, but I felt a collaboration would be much more effective. Because the design mimics the GTA III cover style, the screens on the front will be tinted certain shades, and run through some filters to try and get a cartoon-like appearance. The main things I'm thinking of are:

-Characters in bad-ass poses (Han Solo before he shoots Greedo, Boba Fett in Empire standing outside the Slave I (of course saved for the Empire cover), etc.)
-Action shots (people holding guns up and shooting them, explosions, things firing; like ion cannons or ship lasers, etc)
-Cars (the only thing I can think of here is the low-rider-looking hovercraft that passes in front of the camera in the shot after the group enters Mos Eisley, OT version of course)

I don't know, if anyone is inspired and wants to help fill the blank space, I'd love to hear some suggestions.

The GTA-version is a nice idea... but I would loosen up the panel-order on the front a bit. Look here:

PID, I loved your Miami Vice cover, I am glad you won the contest. These will make for cool star wars covers. I do second the suggestion on breaking up the front a bit to make the boxes uneven

About the GTA cover... scans from comic books would look great there. Try to avoid publicity photos or stills from the film.

Oooo. Good idea using the comic book adaptations for the front. Did Dark Horse do stuff for the OT? I was actually modeling the cover after the GTA III front, which is a bit more strict with the boxes than other versions like Liberty City Stories, Vice City, etc. Looking again at the cover, the boxes do have a little more uneven quality than I first thought. Probably better to keep with the later, uneven designs anyway. Will keep posted on it.

I have the comic version of Jedi. it was pretty awesome. Some of the pics would look really cool on the cover. I believe its at my parents house now though

I've got a fistful of DH SW comics at my house, but I don't have a scanner access until this weekend. Maybe I can scan a few things in then, unless it is a major holiday or something. Then it may have to wait a few days.

Awww, what a neat collaborative effort this has become

It's the best Festivus ever! I'll check my local comic shop in the mean-time for some Star Wars comics and see what I can dig up too. I probably should prepare the Empire and Jedi templates too.

Aight the drawing style on the covers of the "Empire" series look exactly right, just the right amount of detail, but I can't find a lot of screen-shots pertinent to ANH. Here's the one that's looking good, still looking a I suppose. Also followed the GTA 'stories' series cover and it is definitely looking way better than the GTA3 squareness.

The text on the back is all the same, just a different color, because I haven't dug out my old VHS to get the old school 80s plot synopsis for Empire yet.

Try maybe using Ralph McQuarrie's concept paintings if you can't find the comic scans. That would ook good IMO.

I apply a poster edges effects to get a harsh outline onto the image, I take up the brightness to about 10 and the contrast to about 30, then put a cut-out filter over the whole thing, and get results like this:

I got it off a guide online somewhere, can't remember. It does produce a pretty good looking effect, but not as "drawn"-looking as the comic scans I've been finding.

It's hard finding art that matches comic to comic. I really like the image in the top corner I got going, but the other OT shots I found sifting through some of the graphic Star Wars novels don't match up in art style. I found rightous caps though, will post with more progress.
